Sooryavansham
(1999)

Very paternalistic
Most glaring drawback is failure to acknowledge the real heroes.

In the speech he did not mention Radha even once. Nor did he mention Kadar Khan's character who loaned him money to buy his first bus. He also failed to Anupam Kher's character who had been his best friend and even introduced him to Radha.

There are serious lapses in story. 1. Radha is shown very rude in the first encounter but then becomes

crazy about him. 2. It is unbelievable that she would give up to even appear for IAS since that was her only ambition. 3. It is never disclosed that his father had become sick due eating food

but still whole crowd knew it already.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa
(2007)

Biggest waste of my time,
Before watching the movie I had read some reviews and I have never been so much disappointed with any movie before. The story started alright and had hoped that it would end with solving the mystery on a scientific basis. Avini and Sidharth both claim to have no faith in superstitious mambo jumbo but in the end they turn out to be as superstitious as any one else. I had become suspicious as soon as I say Aditya dressed up as s buffoon in Ramnami dress and claiming to have taken dip in Kumbha. In this day age when we need to popularize scientific attitude in children's, this movie takes us back 600 years. This kind of story should be banned if we expect India to take its place in the modern age.

Shikhar
(2005)

Not worth price of DVD
I agree with last comment. It is formula movie with copy of western songs and dances in the hope of appealing to NRIs who may be nostalgic or those who aspire to be an NRI. This is obvious when Devgan talks in terms of $ instead of Rs to explain the exchange rate.

Every one seems to be overacting and insincere. Devgan is not only a builder but suddenly he is shown to be expert in every business so that he can send Kapoor to Thailand instead of Singapore for horticultural research. Thailand is shown to be a technologically advanced while India is still so backward.

You may watch it if you have nothing better to do.

Ek Din Achanak
(1989)

One of the best movies that I have ever seen
It struck very personal note with me. I have experienced two such events in my own life. I was feeling so guilty about them since I did not know that such instances are not so rare after all. I can now face reality of life without any fear of exposure.

The most memorable scene is the exposure of a Guru and superstitious people who frequent them. At one time it appeared as if the Guru would turn out to be the father himself since he is not seen at all but the story line is much better than that outcome. When a visitor to the Guru becomes sick every one calls for a doctor rather the Guru who is supposed to have supernatural powers.

I hope I can live more happily after knowing how ordinary has been my own life.

Swades: We, the People
(2004)

Movie made for emotional appeal to NRIs
The movie is for the NRIs who feel guilty about living and working abroad. There are so many gaps in the story e.g. there is no mention of Mohan's parents and how a nanny became the only reason for his visiting India. It looks like hero and heroine both are without parents but the heroin at least own some property that is rented out to weaver. Both seem to have no one else but their common nanny. IN real life most NRIs are not very successful and are also taxi drivers, cooks but the movie is stereotyping as if all are rich and successful. Another drawback is the exploitation of religion for box office success. There was no need or justification of appealing superstitious story of Ram and Sita when the it is supposed to be against other social superstitions and tradition etc.

Khwahish
(2003)

One of the best movies
This movie is Indianised version of "Love Story" but dialogs and acting of all the stars is excellent. It does have scenes if kiss and romance which may shock most Indians, that is why they did not appreciate it. I have save it on tape and intend to show it to my friends and family.

The actors and actresses are not very well known but they have done great justice to their roles. Mahmood Babai as father of Lekha's father is so remarkable a character that it is delight to see him whenever he is on the screen.

Shivaji Satham has very small presence but is so natural and reminds me of my own father. It is delight to see him embrace Amar in the last scene.
