Just as ridiculous as anything Uwe Boll has done. I went to see this movie having easily the lowest expectations possible figuring that if I had low expectations, the movie may surprise me and be decent. Needless to say, this movie was worse than those expectations.
The movie was a clichéd mess filled with terrible editing, terrible acting, terrible dialog, terrible effects, and a terrible story to boot.
Bison in this is your typical crime boss operating out of Bangkok, instead of an evil mastermind whatever-the-hell he is in the games. The writers essentially turned M. Bison from a legit-badass into the movie version of Lex Luthor. The entire reason he does what he does in the film, is to make super-condos on waterfront property in bangkok for the super rich.
Michael Clark Duncan is decent, you can tell he had fun making this movie, unfortunately his lines usually get cut off half the time, or he doesn't actually say more than two lines within a 20 minute time-span. His first fight scene was actual decent, but the others were really lack-luster.
Kristin Kruek wasn't that bad as Chun-li, like with the others I believe she did the best she could with what she had to work with, which wasn't much.
Now I did say the acting was terrible, and I stand by this, I say the acting was terrible because the writing was even worse. The dialog was ridiculous and unbelievable and sounded so forced coming from the actors that it ruined any chance of immersion and turned what tried to be a series kung-fu film into your typical sci-fi original garbage only with worse writing.
The fight scenes in the film are sparse, the fight with Vega lasts a good 2 minutes, which wouldn't have been a problem if they hadn't hyped Vega up so much within the film. I can't tell if the fight scenes were bad because of the poor job of editing them together, or if the people in the fight scenes were just that terrible at the fight scenes themselves.
The special effects were stale and seemed like they were from 2002, instead of using pyrotechnics to blow up a building, they instead use cgi explosions, this wouldn't be a problem if the cgi explosions didn't look like it was a cgi-explosion.
Then there were spots in the film that just make no sense. In order for Bison to become truly evil, he stabbed his pregnant wife in the stomach with his hands and took out the baby inside of a cave, and apparently transferred the good part of his soul into the baby. This was easily the most WTF moment within the entire film, the actor playing young Bison looked creepy as hell, and I couldn't tell if he was going to eat the baby or not. I'm not entirely sure why I brought that up, but it was just weird.
There is a lot more I could say about this movie. If you're expecting a good video game movie, you will be disappointed. If you're expecting a decent kung-fu flick, you will be disappointed. If you're expecting a decent action movie, you will be disappointed.
If you're looking for a movie that is so ridiculous you and your friends(I suggest bringing friends) can't help but laugh and make fun of the movie throughout. You're in for a treat.
There is a lot more I could say about this movie, a lot more negative, not a lot of positive.
But like I said just a minute ago. Go into the movie expecting to see some bad acting, bad writing, bad action, don't take it seriously and have a few friends along so you can MST3K the film. Then you'll feel like you hadn't wasted your money.
