Much Ado About Nothing
(2012)

The Best Modern Adaptation I've Seen to Date
It really shows when a director is heavily interested in his project. It was clear to anyone that this was a very well thought-out and beautifully crafted rendition of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing".

The script speaks for itself. Whedon kept his version honest to the script and didn't overplay anything, as you see in many other renditions. He also fitted his direction very well with the play, and it wasn't a forced modern adaptation.

All the humor was genuine, and wasn't cheap at all. The humor from the script itself and the actions that the actors took really played well together, making it a very enjoyable movie.

The pace made sense, and Joss really made this his own production. You could tell he knew how he wanted to see the scenes and how he played them out. The levels between the actors (which, for those who don't know, is the use of height with the actors to make a scene more interesting) was really well played in some of the scenes. The directing was flawless, and really told the story beautifully. It wasn't too fast or too slow, it was just right. The acting from everyone was really well done, and kept you absorbed in the film. The film also followed the theme that Joss chose perfectly, and the use of locations was incredible.

If I haven't convinced you to see this film yet, I'm obviously not conveying what I want to say. This movie was a masterpiece, and very easy to enjoy. I would give it a ten out of ten, but I'll save that for when I watch the movie again (which should be very soon). Overall very easy to enjoy, light-hearted, very easy to understand, beautiful acting and directing, and probably the best modern adaptation of Shakespeare I've seen to date.

Joss, please make another.

Man of Steel
(2013)

The Man of Steel
Superman was an idea of hope, which is the focus of the whole movie. The theme is buried in really well, and continuously comes up. The film, as well as the characters, seemed believable and not far-fetched. There was fantastic acting from everyone, as there were many talented actors signed into this film. The film had some great moments and great scenery, and really followed through with the story. Some parts of the story are a bit questionable, but that's really for the audience member to decide. I personally didn't like some of the choices the writer made, but that's just my opinion. The camera work for some of the film was very tough to watch. The camera continuously shook during certain scenes and made it especially hard not to focus (on top of that, the film was in 3D). Also, the camera moved too fast, making it very tough for audience members to follow. The music was definitely my favorite part of the film. Hans Zimmer comes in with a very strong orchestra and really plays the strong points of the film. The music got you absorbed in the film, and really contributed to the overall theme. If I were you, I would probably check out the soundtrack. It is fantastic! There is a lot of action, and the action scenes are great. The film seemed to be tailored to more of an action film, rather than focus on origins as much. Personally, I found the film to be a bit stretched (as some of the action scenes were drawn out) and the camera work really needed to be focused. The music was incredible, but the film could have been shorter. That being said, this is definitely a film worth watching in theatres. It was a great superhero movie, and felt somewhat balanced to the dramatic side and action side of Superman.

Stand Up Guys
(2012)

A fantastic conclusion
Ever since I saw the trailer for 'Stand Up Guys', I was excited to see the film. Three great classic actors in one film, with this classic genre (one that they have mastered over and over again), I got very excited.

This movie is not an action movie in any way, as many people have thought from the trailer. The story is a very sad one, and the overall theme of the story is of friendship. A bunch of old characters, with 'time' playing the antagonist in the film. A group of friends trying to relive the past and enjoy each others company.

They don't make movies like this anymore. The chemistry between these three is incredibly strong. The moments in this film are great, and the pace flows very well in the film. For anyone who loved the classic Pacino acting (as I did), or loved any of the other's past acting, you will really enjoy this film. This film plays their strengths and really has a great message.
