Bramayugam
(2024)

A SATISFYING WATCH
The latest malayalam movie brahmayugam, starring mammothy is quite an interesting film. It is indulgent in parts but never boring. It has several twist and turns and some solid performance that keeps you engaged throughout the runtime. I watched the film in Telugu dub and it was quite good, though we get the feeling of a dubbed film when any character is singing and his lip movement doesn't match with the telugu lyrics. The performance by the whole ensamble was extrardinary especially mammothy, he literaaly nailed the character. You can feel how effortlessly he putting a commendable performance. The other characters also did a great job. The movie is in black and white tone and it serves the purpose. Its a deliberate choice to make the film in black and white which perfectly captures the eerie tone of the film. It adds a sense of claustrophobia. The music is quite good too. It adds to the intensity of the film, it elevates a suspense scenes and its also good whenever its not used too, the quitenes in the film is equally scary. There is hidden allegory of power and corruption, a person with power always shown his dominance over the weak. No matter how pious the person is, but once hes acquires a powerful position, he will get corrupted easily, The entire movie is based on this theme but most of the time its in your face, You can see the characters speaking about this many times and most of the times it feels preachy and not subtle. Another gripe i have with this film is that the ending of the film is very open. You feel that the movie is unfinished, the beast doesn't die in the end and he keeps on living forever. Maybe the director wants to convey that the corruption and dominance of the people with position cannot be eliminated, it just changes the body from one person to another. Sometimes, the person who fights it, also get attracted towards it and get corrupted himself, which is a good theme but i prefer more open ended film. In this way i prefer thumbadd, where they kill hastar in the end, which finishes the film on a satisfying note nonetheless, Brahmayugam is still strong film with some great cinematography, music and performances and i totally recommend you guys to check this out whenever you guys are free. And i give this fil a 8/10.

A slow poison
Like the summery suggests, this movie works like a slow poison. The pacing of the movie is really slow but that didn't stop me from liking it. After the end of the movie i sat down on my chair thinking about the movie for an hour. And after a week i decided to write the review of this movie. Well, i won't call it a review, these are my general thoughts regarding the movie. So, i warn you there will be minor spoilers. Daisy is a tragic love triangle between a cop, a painter and an assassin. Hye-young(ji-hyun jun) is a 25 years old painter living in Amsterdam, who looks after her grandfather's antique shop. One day she meets Jeong-woo(Lee sung-jae), an Interpol cop whose job is to put an end to the Asian mafia in Amsterdam, both fall in love with each other, but one day a gun fire happens in the middle of the street. Hye-young and jeong-woo both got hurt. In this tragic accident Hye-young looses her voice and Jeong-woo got shot in the arm and sent back to Korea. Enter park yi(Woo-sung Jung), an assassin by profession. He tries to steal the heart of Hye-young and also helps her to forget the sad past. After his relentless effort Hye-young accepts his love. Everything was working well for Park Yi but suddenly Hye-young finds Jeong woo standing at her doorsteps. Thus, we have our movie.

The plot of the movie is really good and it had the potential to turn into a great romantic movie, the only thing matters is the Execution and that is the greatest problem i have with this movie. The screenplay of the movie is really slow. The first 50 minutes were really enjoyable. But after that this movie really drags on. There was no chemistry between JI-Hyun jun and Woo-sung jung. We don't feel the romance between those two. We see Hye-young as a mute girl fighting with her own feelings and park yi trying really hard to appease her but we don't get to see how he does that and director introduces the time gap of one year. And after one year the situation is slightly changed, Hye-young and park yi are now couples but we don't see how that happened. And it is replaced by some gangster and mafia plot. And then the whole thing is turned into a convoluted mess. But the last 15 minutes of the movie really worked for me and the ending was something i didn't expect at all. The ending of the movie was really tragic and completely turns the table.

Performance wise, all three lead actors did a fine job. Woo-sung jung's role as an assassin is perfect, Sung-jae lee also did a good job but the performance of ji hyun- jun wasn't up to the mark. No offense, i liked her acting in My sassy girl and wind struck and even in this movie she did a fine job at first but after she loses her voice i lost interest in her character, but again i feel she did an OK job but the actress of her caliber could've done better. The movie is set in Amsterdam which is really weird because i haven't seen any Asian movie filmed outside the continent. Maybe they thought filming the movie in Amsterdam will give the movie a romantic feel to it and i guess it worked, at least for the most part.

Daisy is a good romantic movie but it's no way comparable to other Korean romantic classics such as A moment to remember, my sassy girl and the classic. But the great plot, solid performance and a good climax made it a must watch for all Asian movie lovers and also for anyone who want to watch a good tragic romantic story. Sorry for my bad English.I Am a south Asian and English is not my forte but i tried really hard keep this review understandable to the general English speaking people.

Forget Avengers and Dark knight, this is a real super hero movie.
Like others, only reason i watched this movie is because of the lead actress and i wasn't expecting anything from the movie. But boy it surprised me. The movie revolves around a documentary film maker Song-soo jung( gianna jun), who films a man who believes that he is a superman. The plot itself seems ridiculous and one would imagine it will be the same old Korean rom-com. But when the movie was finished , tears were flowing through my eyes, i was so sad. I didn't get what i expected but something more than that. It tells us the tragic condition of the modern world where human beings lost their will to help others, we see the selfishness that resides in human beings made them incompetent to see goodness in other human being. Though the movie seems convoluted at first but after an hour it becomes interesting. we see a lead character who believes himself to be superman but now he lost his power and he is a normal human being. But still he tries to help others with his limited capacity. Though the entire movie is predictable and after watching for an hour or so you will be able to predict what will happen in the next 45 minutes and even the climax is not that hard to predict but the director skillfully turns a boring drama to a heart warming and tragic tale of a man who believes he can save the world.

Performance wise, Gianna jun was OK. It was a slightly different from her previous roles but she did a good job but it was Jung-min Hwang who steals the show. His depiction as a self proclaimed superhero is flawless. I haven't seen him in any other movie but after this i would definitely check out all his movies.

It's not like the movie is perfect and it's certainly not the best movie i have seen but it's damn good. In the first half the pacing of the movie is really slow, but the main problem with the movie is character of Gianna jun, her acting is good but her role isn't flushed out. We don't see any relation between her and the superman. May be it's because director didn't pay much attention to her role or it could happen that the role of Jung-min Hwang was so perfect that we don't care about the lousy and snobbish film maker. But even with the flaws "The man who was a Superman" is not the best but still its one of the best movie I've ever seen. And it's really sad that this movie has such a low rating. Where we see crappy superhero movie like avengers in top 250 list, this real superhero movie is crawling at the bottom with only 7.4. It's even more tragic than the ending of the movie.
