O.K. Garage
(1998)

Worth a Look!
Firstly, this movie came to me in a DVD compilation pack of 10 movies, categorized as a comedy collection. Now, you would have to be drawing a long bow to think of this movie as a comedy, although there are one... or maybe two funny parts. Despite this, I think the movie was O.K. .... get it! .... O.K. Garage .... O.K. .... Awwww...never mind! lol

I have to admit that I did not have the DVD cover and a title "All Revved Up" to give any false "Fast and Furious" expectations, as commented by others. However, what I did find was indeed a quirky, offbeat, romantic type drama, which to me rings true. Having worked in the automotive repair industry when I was younger, similar type behavior and meeting some quirky people was not uncommon in some workshops and this movie has helped me relive some suppressed nightmares.

The movie itself is no blockbuster with crazy car chases and huge explosions or lashings of CGI, but what it does give is a relatively accurate representation of what could be real life situations in the daily grind of life, with everyone playing their parts really well. While the only character I didn't like was Louis (Richard Bright), I felt the character was a little over the top and not quite believable, but necessary I suppose for his part in the story.

All in all not a movie for everyone maybe, but worth a look.

I think it is O.K. (-;

Costa Rican Summer
(2010)

Some good parts.......mostly tedious.

Hmmm...... I don't think too many people liked this one.

Comedy would have to be one of the hardest genres to undertake, as it is so subjective and to say this a comedy is a bit of a stretch. The movie seems to be in conflict with itself, in terms of the mixing of elements, with attempts at comedy in some parts while trying to portray serious drama in others and then a weird mixture of both, as well as a random smattering of bare breasts. It just upsets the flow of the movie and makes me wonder what the target audience is, but let's not over analyse this puppy.

The premise of the movie is OK and has a basic storyline, so many of these surfer type movies are devoid any story and are just about bums, tits, drugs and catching a gnarly wave. Susan Ward (Carla) does a great job and made this movie watchable with Julianna Guill (Eva) doing well also, however did not mesh well with the Brock Kelly (Kyle) character and he didn't really seem to fit the part or make believable that being friends with the other two surfer drop-kicks was possible.

I have to agree that the Peter Dante character Dinger was hard to get accustomed to in the beginning, probably due to all the crazy Pammy fantasies, however becomes bearable after his transformation. The two (over the top) Swedish girls were sort of funny and are required for the introduction of the bare boobies (woo hoo!).

Overall, I think this is a movie that will make most people cringe, although there are some good and some funny parts most was tedious, but there was something that made me keep watching......... it was the dollar I paid for it!....... All the way up to the most unbelievable ending.

Ruby
(1992)

Political history aside...... Found this to be an entertaining movie.
I think the trouble with making a movie, like this, that has ties with actual events, leads critics to over analyze the factuality's of the movie and lose sight of the purpose of the movie....... To Entertain.

This is "Not a Documentary".

I came to this movie from a perspective of having no idea who Jack Ruby was, as I have no interest in American political history, so I treated this as just a movie. Although, I do like gangster type movies eg. "The Untouchables" and found this to be in a similar police/criminals vein.

Knowing Sherilyn Fenn and having a good regard for Danny Aiello's acting style, I thought this would be a good movie and I wasn't disappointed. Danny brings a strong, stable almost calming effect to this movie, while Sherilyn brings a simple cuteness and innocence, yet with a driving ambition and I think they work well together. The thing I didn't really like was the CIA character, just a bit far fetched for me.

Was it ever destined to win an Academy Award?... hmmm... not likely, but I found it to be a good, solid, entertaining movie and worth the dollar I spent on the DVD at the discount shop. Anyone who gives this less than three stars is in for a rude shock because there are a lot worse movies than this out there.
