Best film about the meaning of life since "2001" It is really a pity that a Movie like this is so overlooked by the audience, at least in Germany. It can really be called a work of eclectic philosophy, as it combines many different ideas form different cultures about what the essence of life and death really is. What's apparently confusing many People is that there is no conclusion in the end, no solution with which you could go home satisfied and enlightened. So make sure you don't belong to the people who need a "moral" to be pleased with a movie before watching it, because that is not the point of the movie. It deals with many different aspects of ancient philosophy, like the old Indian circle of reincarnation, Mayan mysticism and Jewish-Christian ideas about sin and salvation. Actually, the Film leaves you with nothing but a feeling of a clue about the meaning of our existence, and this effect is an astonishing illustration of the thoughts that Plato had when he said that the meaning of life is not understandable with the mind but with the soul. Aronofsky surely read some philosophy before making this movie, and it doubles the fun if the viewer does also. Definitely on one level with 2001.
