Spider-Man 3
(2007)

Sorry Spidey, the bad guys MADE this movie!
I remember seeing the first Spiderman at a drive in, and I remember being stricken not by Peter Parker himself, but by his opposition. One thing I must commend the makers of this franchise for is the amount of heart put into the bad guys! As the bad guy torch passed from father to son right at the end of number 2, I knew we would be in for something awesome in the third. And I wasn't disappointed. Then the best of the worst came onto the screen with the Sandman, and I was completely blown away. I really have to give these movies the award for giving the most heartfelt stories to the baddies, between Sandman, Harry and Venom, I declare this movie completely, insanely awesome! Sorry Spiderman, you just got your butt handed to you on a venomous, sand-ridden delivered to you personally by your own best friend! If you haven't seen this yet,you are definitely missing out!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
(2007)

There will be no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow...
I remember back in 2003 when my aunt took me to see a film called Pirates of the Caribbean, and of course, being 12, I couldn't wait. Now as an adult I'm not ashamed to say I was equally ecstatic to see the third installment of this epic trilogy. I absolutely loved the Curse of the Black Pearl, and was equally pleased with Dead Man's Chest. Being a self-proclaimed Barbossa fanatic you can imagine why. Now that my man was back in the big picture I walked into the theater today with high hopes for this finale, and truth be told I came out missing something... Let me explain. I assume most of you are reading this to get a taste of what it will be like, let me warn you that Disney really stretched it's boundaries here. I can't deny that At World's End definitely delivers. It ties up all loose ends as expected, but be warned there will be no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow. The graphics are absolutely breathtaking and the climactic battle will no doubt go down in cinematic history, and wrapped up in a once again amazing soundtrack, many will not be disappointed... But when it was all over and done, even with the clip after the credits, something was missing. I just wish I knew what it was... Maybe someone can pinpoint it and tell me... But do enjoy it, it has earned the right to be given a chance!

Cyrano de Bergerac
(1990)

C'est plus beau lorsque c'est inutile...
We've all experienced it, the drag of seeing masterpieces ruined and dismembered or simply lost in translation. And I'll admit, even though I'm only seventeen I've seen it happen far too many times, from Rob Brown's DaVinci Code to Christopher Paolini's Eragon. And then, once upon a french class, I was introduced to the greatest tragedy ever written, and again in the same day the greatest retelling of a tragedy through film. I'm not really in any position to comment on the translation of the film as I've only watched without the subtitles, but I can tell through other comments that I'm not the only one who can appreciate Rostand's masterpiece, French speaking or not. Gerard Depardieu graces the screen with a flawless portrayal of Cyrano, the witty rebel who's eloquence and skill with a sword are matched only by size of his decidedly "enorme nez". He delivers what must be some seriously challenging dialog effortlessly while still staying true to Cyrano's character. For all those considering seeing this film for the first time, don't let the subtitles scare you, it doesn't get much better than this!
