Grace
(2021)

Drivel
Watched this because the presence of Simm is usually a good sign. Not this time. The storyline is laughable, there are plot holes you could drive a bus through and it's packed with formulaic stereotypes.

Don't bother.

Job Guys
(2020)

Dismal
Like, I'm sure, many others, I got suckered in by the high ratings. Don't waste your time. It's drivel.

Unsolved Mysteries: Berkshires UFO
(2020)
Episode 5, Season 1

Balderdash
This episode of an underwhelming series is just pathetic.

Da 5 Bloods
(2020)

Tremendous movie with fine performances
I wasn't sure what to expect of this but it turned out to be a thrilling ride with exceptional performances from a quality cast.

McMillions
(2020)

Too much positive on wrongdoers
This was a good documentary series but was really spoiled by the last episode where interviews with some of the wrongdoers was overlaid with schmaltzy music and the producers allow them to trivialize their theft with the universal disclaimer "everyone makes mistakes".

And Devereaux's statements like "there isn't one person watching this that hasn't done something they regret" as justification for these cheats' actions is nauseating.

How on earth are people like Jacobson and Chandler still on the streets?

Ford v Ferrari
(2019)

What a YAWN
Cliche-ridden yawn-fest.

The storyline is predictable (even without knowing the true history) and hopelessly inaccurate (if you do).

Formula 1: Drive to Survive
(2019)

Frustrating show
What could have been a fascinating documentary ends up tip-toeing around the edges of the conflicts and battles within Formula 1. It's a shame.

The scripted commentary bolted on after the event is really irritating. No reason for it.

Ultraviolet
(2017)

Nice surprise
I started watching this with not very high expectations but what a pleasant surprise.

The technical stuff is ridiculous but who cares? It's fiction so it's entitled to make up its own rules.

Roba
(2012)

Enjoyable little show
I've got used to Scandinavian cop and detective series being absorbing, well written, well acted and gorgeous to look at.

Roba isn't any of those things, really. But it IS a good soap opera, sometimes ridiculous but always enjoyable - even when you're thinking "that's just silly"!

Cold Case Files
(2017)

Irritating presentation
Some interesting cases depicted here but the presentation is frustrating. All reconstruction are shown in slow motion, often with some blurring and often in short bursts. This style could be effective if used judiciously - it conveys lack of clarity and confusion - but it's used way too much in this series.

Domino
(2019)

Danish disaster
The quality of Danish TV thrillers is so high and, with Malling, Coster-Waldau and Pearce in the cast I just assumed this was going to be a treat. It's HORRIBLE.

Mr Inbetween
(2018)

What a great series
This is just a smashing watch. Funny, explosive, sad.

Preacher
(2016)

The most fun you can have watching TV
This show is completely bonkers and one of the most enjoyable things to be on TV for years.

Unbelievable
(2019)

Excellent
Not much more to say than "Excellent". This is definitely one of the best series I've seen in many years.

Sally4Ever
(2018)

Really, really unfunny
I've liked Julia's work in the past but his is embarrassingly bad. Just awful.

Sneaky Pete
(2015)

Tailed off after a great Season 1
I lived Season 1 of this but the quality drops off with each season.

By Season 3 the writing and acting have become really wooden.

The Hot Potato
(2012)

Terrible movie with most annoying soundtrack ever
I thought I might have found a gem when I came across this. Alas it's abysmal.

The Favourite
(2018)

Overrated and self-indulgent.
This is a project that someone decided to create to exercise that they learned in film school. It's amazing that anyone funded it and I don't believe anyone actually enjoyed watching it except those who have pretentious opinions of themselves.

Ófærð
(2015)

Atmospheric, first rate series
Both series of this show are excellent with outstanding cinematography and performances, particularly by the lead.

Tremendous!

Formula 1: Drive to Survive
(2019)

Frustrating show

Especial de Natal: Se Beber, Não Ceie
(2018)

Had me crying with laughter
Watched this completely out of the blue and, once I got up to speed, I just couldn't stop laughing. You have to be quick to read the subtitles but what a treat!

Three and Out
(2008)

A good laugh but a missed opportunity
Enjoyable little story but it seems such a waste. A cast of brilliant actors and an amusing premise but it's put together in such a dated and maudlin way that it just leaves you wondering what could have been.

Close
(2019)

Good thriller
This turned out fo be a diverting little excursion. In all honesty the story is quite predictable but it is well written, acted and filmed.

Spotless
(2015)

A study in Obnoxiousness
Just a horrible series. The brother is just so obnoxious and inconceivably oblivious to just how obnoxious he s.

This is a not very well done version of a tried and tested formula: a basically good person does something bad and then each decision that is made from then on makes matters worse. So many other shows have used this formula successfully that it's impossible to watch something that doesn't.

The Shape of Water
(2017)

Beautiful
I wasn't expecting to like this movie - I just watched it "because it was there"! But I love everything about it. Exceptional acting, wonderful story and beautifully shot. I gave it 9/10 rather than 10 because I live in hope that some day I'll find an even better film!
