Being a child of the 60's and 70's, I have very fond memories of the original series. Who can forget the endearing characters, and colourful scenery. Anyone expecting to recapture their childhood memories of this show, are going to be sadly disappointed.
CGI, the scourge of modern film making, manages to obliterate the charming images from the original series. Some well respected character actors and singers combined talents, add little to the production, because the CGI once again overwhelms the film. Add to that, a nonsensical plot, and you are left with an empty vessel.
Thank goodness we picked up the dvd in a charity shop, I wouldn't have wanted to pay to see it at the cinema!

We were browsing through YouTube, and happened upon this rather dusty relic, from the archives.
I have no idea what it is about, because we could only tolerate the first half of the episode. It was obviously meant as a vehicle for Arthur Low, who was propbably trying to step out of the shadow of Captain Mainwaring.
Unfortunately this series is slow paced, and has dated quite badly. But it is sprinkled with renouned characters actors, such as Roy Barraclough and Patricia Hayes. Both of them manage to elevate the rather humdrum proceedings.
Sometimes it is best to leave these forgotten productions, in the dusty archives where they were found.
