Dhamaka
(2021)

What were the makers thinking!! Ohh maybe they didn't think to be honest!!
I am so confused after seeing the movie!!!! It looks worse than the dress rehearsal of a school play. Ofcourse they got the entire script out of the Korean movie so that was fine, but such poor execution, almost unbelievable. They put in that much money for the visual effects and other fancy stuff but the makers forgot to ask the cast to perform, like legit act. Ironically only the special appearance (Mrunal Thakur) performed well, rest all looked like some kind of spoof. No no no Bollywood, you'll have to do better, just copy pasting stories doesn't work. Karthik, my man, what's wrong with you? You are kind of getting a little worse in your acting skills. It is appreciated that you chose to take on a different genre and experiment but honestly some sincere efforts should have been put to your performance, which was missing. I also absolutely blame the direction coz it didn't look real at any point, infact at some points the serious scenes looked so fake that I bursted out laughing. So many lame characters shown were absolutely unnecessary and added no value to the movie. Overall very poor direction and execution and below average acting. Not a real thriller in true sense but it's also entirely unwatchable.

Difficult to watch but absolutely worth watching!
One hell of a ride it is, very heart wrenching but true to it core. All 4 stories in this anthology are masterpieces, directed and performed very well, perfect background scores and cinematography. It's pretty dark stuff so might leave you with a heavy heart, but it keeps you engrossed and does not resort to nudity and violence to lure audiences. If I had to pick one of them as my most favorite it has to be Thangam (Pride), take a bow Kalidas Jayaram; nonetheless all of them were mind-blowing! Glad India is making such content!

Not good Not Bad!
Average and predictable movie, sports theme with the obvious drama and the same old preaching....nazariya badlo nazare badlenge!! Rajkumar Rao has done a fab job and was able to get and hold on to the Haryanvi accent in the entire movie, Nusrat seemed to be struggling with getting a hold of the accent, but the effort was evident and commendable! All supporting cast was amazing, these are pro actors and hardly ever go wrong, no matter what role! Loved Rajkumar's mum's character, not very many scenes but she was the typical Haryanvi mother, impeccable performance. Jatin Sarna was quite an underutilized talent, he is a good actor but had no significant role and was totally missing in the second half. Music and humor was average, though the scenes of dogs barking in the finale was a facepalm moment for me!! I hope we get to see inspiring movies but without the continuous preaching. Inspiration needs to be delivered in a more subtle way for it to reach our hearts. This movie was cliche and far from being awesome.

Miss India
(2020)

So unrealistic and lame that it's kind of funny
Seriously what were the writers, directors, producers and actors thinking while making this movie. Its clearly unreal and in a bad way. So many loopholes that it's become a sieve. Who gives visa to the entire family when one person gets a job in US? Which US state university will give admission to someone in 2 days for a MBA course? The family is shown struggling to make ends meet in India and as soon as they land in SFO they are shown to be staying in a multi-million dollar house! and these are just for the starters, too many bloopers all the way. Every time the lead actress gets a little makeover they show her entry in slow motion, I mean why. Moreover they show the antagonist entry (KSK) several times as well, like really. The movie undermines the relevance of a deadly disease like Alzheimer's and shows it just as fillers and to add humor, that's super disgusting. Too much preaching about women power and their sacrifices. Corporate Job Interview: Interviewer: Why should we hire you? Interviewee: Because I am a female and females are superior and can bear the pain of child birth. This is the level of crap you are signing up for when you decide to watch it. Absolutely senseless and baseless movie. I would have gone for 2 stars but just because the movie was so horrible it gave me guilty pleasure of watching it, to see how can people throw their money making something so useless. So will go with 3 stars.

Shakuntala Devi
(2020)

Good story boring execution
When I decide to watch a biopic I as an audience want to see the person's journey who the biopic is about. But do I only want to know the facts? I can Google that. In a movie I want to see a depiction of how things happened in this person's life by an actor who claims to play that character. Shakuntala Devi is a movie about the great Math genius Shakuntala Devi played by Vidya Balan in Vidya Balan style. So either Devi's personality was exactly like Balan is in real life or the director and actor did not bother to show the real personality or they didn't understand how to do it. For Pete's sake stop feeding us average movies with average acting skills. In a world where you can make biopics as real as Dhoni stop making biopics just for the heck of it like Devi. Music...I don't remember a single song, that says it enough. Other actors...good in their characters but not extraordinary.

Hotel Mumbai
(2018)

No political drama, just the truth!
Hotel Mumbai is one of the finest movies I have watched in recent times which shows the real sequence of events in the scene of crime (scenes in this case). Its brutal, very dark and heart-wrenching, but its the truth. It is what us Indians faced 10 years ago. The ordeal of the people stuck in the attack and the trauma entire nation faced.

The story tells about the courage and kindness people showed while facing this ghastly terrorist attack, however the story doesn't shy back from showing the loopholes in the security system and the darker shades of human nature.

I am not sure what can I say about the actors because I didn't see any. All I saw were ordinary people who played their parts, be it the culprits or the victims. Everyone seemed to be perfectly placed in their roles and essayed their part with absolute honesty and perseverance.

What I enjoyed the most about this movie was that there was no high end political drama driving the whole situation. The director talked about the real situation about how all hell broke loose, so the movie is deep in all aspects and doesn't shallow down at any part.

Honestly, I had a tough time watching it because every bullet shot in the movie made my heart go out to my innocent people who suffered this insanity. But in terms of cinema this is fabulous piece of art.

Kapoor & Sons
(2016)

Super movie...Super actors....Superhot Fawad Khan!!!!
What an amazing amazing movie!! So many scenes reminded me of my fights with siblings...our insecurities....who is adopted....whom does mom love more....awesomeness!!! The two lead guys have absolutely had my heart. Don't know whom to give it more...both were equally fab...but if really have to take a call than will give it to Fawad khan. He is super cute. Story flows so softly that it doesn't feel i m in a theatre with a crowd and watching a family drama. Alia bhatt is good as usual but nothing extra ordinary. The parents are profound actors and they have done their job well. Rishi kapoor as dadu is the surprise delight and his sense of humour and emotions make the movie so bright and lovable!!!! Go watch it people with your families and go watch it again with your friends and keep fighting and loving your siblings....afterall they are our first bestfriends!!

Neerja
(2016)

Makes you sad, very very sad!
The first thing a person should know if he/she decides to watch Neerja is that the movie makes you sad, very sad. The story building is such that it doesn't allow one much time before the hijack. The flashback scenes of Neerja's early life are poignant and inserted in all the right ways during the course of the movie. Sonam strikes gold for the very first time. Her acting skills have honed in these years but she still needs to sharpen the saw. Although she is better than what we have seen earlier of her, she still needs improvisation. But the good thing is that she fits into the role perfectly, which has enhanced her character further. Little disappointed I was in the scene when the terrorist asks her to sing. That scene could have been made and enacted in a very powerful way and could have left an everlasting impression on the mind of the viewers, but unfortunately it was just average. Songs are not too many and rightly so. In such movies one needs only background music and the right chords at the right moments. One particular song that left me in tears was "Aisa kyu maa'. Shabana Azmi as'Maa' was perfect. Actors of her stature don't need a validation and she was simply a delight to watch. The quiver and punch with which she gave her speech in the end of the movie gave her my heart. Also one more person who had my heart was Jim Sarbh. He was so brilliant as a terrorist that you can actually hate him to the core. The dialogue delivery and accent of all the actors playing terrorist was off the charts and consistent throughout. For Shekhar, one really can't say much about as he had only couple of scenes, but he was not bad. My only disappointment was the cinematography. It was too suffocated and up to the rafters. Could have been a little more fine. Overall a bittersweet movie experience. You can surely go watch it!

Dilwale
(2015)

Stop taking us for granted you SRK
What a ridiculous movie these guys have made this time. I don't understand what was the need for Shahrukh and Kajol to do such a mediocre movie. And howcome Rohit shetty did not realise that the movie is a shitty one. These actors have done such amazing work in all these years and in return have received so much love and money from the public. You should not take us for granted now. If you don't make a good movie it doesn't matter how big a superstar you are. Audience will reject you and your movie outrightly. Movie has a weak storyline...too many flaws..music is boring....acting is just about average...don't know what is wrong with srk (sob sob)...couple of comedy scenes are nice and that's about it...johny lever is irritating...Varun and kriti are not even worth mentioning...overall it's a waste of celluloid!!

Tamasha
(2015)

Take home message: What I have been searching all around, was within me!!!
I am usually tardy in writing reviews but for this movie, I had to write something. Well guys seriously this movie takes my breath away every time I watch it. Who thinks of cinema like this and then makes it available for us to watch and ends up making it so terrific!! I have always enjoyed Imtiaz Ali's form of movie making. I think he thinks and does things differently than rest of the slot. But Tamasha is on another level all together. I think Imtiaz is the best storyteller of our times. Imtiaz has made Tamasha exactly the way it should have been and with what fabulous actors. Ranbir Kapoor's work is so awesome that I have to look out for a dictionary to comment on his acting. But then as I am a bit lazy, guys please understand what I am trying to say. The way he transforms into many personalities is so amazing, I haven't seen anyone do this in Bollywood ever. There is a very thin line between mimicking someone and imbibing someone's character and portraying it in your style. Ranbir enacted many characters but his soul was as pure as a Virgin's kiss. The way he did Dev Anand was indeed a treat to watch for my parents as well. Also the way he vents out his disgruntlement is so organic. We all have done it in our days of letdown and feeling helpless, he looks so real. In Deepika Padukone, bollywood has found one of the best female actors of today's time. The reason I say this is that she looks gorgeous, carries her statement, dances entrancingly and her acting skills have hone with time. That's a rare package and Deepika has it all. In Tamasha her essaying of 'Tara' was off the charts. No one else comes to my mind who could have done it so splendidly. In Tamasha, AR Rahman has delivered magic. Its a delight to listen to his music and also his voice. Also thanks for getting us Alka Yagnik back for one of the most soulful songs "Agar tum saath Ho". My favourite are all, but most favourite is "Tu koi Aur". This song flows celestially with the theme of the movie, which is finding self and feeling happy with self. One thing I realized after watching Tamasha was that we have all lived our childhood and most of us might as well have enjoyed it to bits. But then why did we let it go so far away from us. It's important to grow up and act your age. But when you are with yourself or your loved ones, bring in back the child in you. Keep the child within you alive and find a chance to be with him often and nothing will give you more happiness. This child will not leave you until you drift him away and he may even be your best companion in older years. Also, no one, absolutely no one in the world should be able to take away our dreams from us. If its my dream and my aspiration, I will decide if I want to live it or let go, but no one else. Only then can I stay at peace. Our search for happiness should start from within, rather than seeking help from others. Tamasha has given me a lot of positive energy and its going to stay with me for a very long time. Thanks Team Tamasha!! Imtiaz you may take a bow!!

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
(2015)

Horrible
It is one of most poorly made movies I have watched in a long time. Don't know what Sooraj Barjatya was thinking while making this one. No story, no theme, no soul, no sense, no base....what was this Sir

Salman you just did Bajrangi Baijaan, which is so good. Why did you have to do such a movie. What was the football match about. So unreal, so unwanted. Sonam Kapoor I thought could act when I saw Ranjhana, guess it was just a fluke. I am so disappointed because I have always loved Sooraj Barjatya's movies. Now next time I have to be really careful before watching his movies

Sad and disappointed

PK
(2014)

We are all in search of god, but no one does it the way PK does!
What I Love about PK: We are all in search of god, but no one does it the way PK does. He would make you laugh but also melt your heart and finally steal it away. Aamir Khan is the best thing about PK (I think Bollywood too!!). With the innocence and curiosity of a little child enters PK into this big bad world ('Gola' as he refers to it in the movie). In his search for God, to get his stuff back from him, PK takes us through the journey of emotions, blind beliefs, superstitions and truth. PK delivers a terrific performance and his Bhojpuri accent is like cherry on cake. He holds on to it beautifully during the entire movie and never for even a moment gets out of his character. With the kind of perfectionist Aamir is, you will not come home watching an Aamir Khan movie, rather you would be back home after meeting PK.

Rajkumar Hirani is another shining star of the movie. He is one of the rare Bollywood directors, who actually can create magic on- screen. And in this movie he actually proves it. I love the execution of the Climax. The way the truth is revealed to the characters inside the film, similarly it is revealed to us. It makes you think, how a mind is conditioned to see only what it knows or believes and conveniently avoids justified logic and the other side of the truth. It's comes across like Pure Magic! So little that we get to see Sanjay Dutt these days, that the little guest appearance that he did as 'Bharon singh' also exhilarated me. He sure was well placed in the story and a delight to watch. What I thought was Average: With a rating of 4.5, there is hardly anything to write in this section. However, the music although sweet to your ears is not very memorable one. With 'chaar kadam' being the only song that I would play in repeat mode in my car, the rest of them are good enough, just when you are watching them in the movie. However a special mention to 'bhagwan hai kaha'. Sonu nigam strikes gold again. This song in the movie made me cry the most! Anushka was good but not great. I think she has a lot of scope of improvisation. Also something peculiarly unusual with her lips does not get unnoticed in the movie as well!

What I did not like: We all fondly remember 'Virus' from 3 idiots and 'Dr Asthana' from Munnabhai MBBS. Sadly when I came home after watching the film, I could not even recall name of Boman Irani's character. Mr Irani is a great actor and he can even make regular roles memorable ones. He wasn't offered much to deliver in this one. Maybe he was just like a lucky Mascot to Hirani's movies. That is the only thing I did not like in PK.

Take home message: If you are a Bollywood fan or a Hollywood fan or a movie fan in general, don't dare to miss PK. One of Aamir Khan's finest performance and undoubtedly the best movie of 2014. Also it might just change the perception of the way one seeks God!
