The Making of a Lady
(2012)

Nice Surprise...it's a suspense movie!
I agreed to watch this one just for my girlfriend, so we could spend some quality time together, and it turned out to be pretty good. I was expecting a major yawn-fest about ladies in big hats drinking tea, but it actually had a very intriguing plot, full of deceit and attempted murder, etc.; it wasn't really an "edge of your seat" type of thriller, but it had enough to keep me interested throughout. The plot was somewhat original, although not entirely dissimilar from some of the other standard fare from this genre, such as Jane Eyre. It was also very well-acted and had good production values; the sets and locations looked very authentic and the background score was appropriate. In my opinion, it was an entertaining film.

Better Call Saul
(2015)

Better call Saul...if you want to be BORED!
As an enthusiastic fan of Breaking Bad, I really tried to like this show...but after four episodes, I refuse to watch anymore. It is NOTHING like Breaking Bad, except for the fact that some of the same characters make guest appearances. In my opinion, based on the whole premise of the show, it will never have any of the intensity or suspense of Breaking Bad...this show is just plain AWFUL! For some reason, however, it seems as though everyone is afraid to admit it; face it people, the emperor has no clothes! By the way, why did this show have such a high rating before it even premiered? It says something like: "voting not allowed until after the release date", yet it started out with a rating of 9.5...that seems very suspicious to me.

The Timber
(2015)

Entertaining western; great cinematography, but poorly edited
This movie was pretty interesting and well-shot in some very scenic, snow-covered mountain locations; however, some of the scenes were a little too vague and unclear as to what actually happened. Perhaps the director wanted to "challenge" the audience in an artistic manner...or maybe the producer told the director to cut the time of the film by about thirty minutes; whatever the reason, the end result was a lot of scenes that didn't really make sense. There was a scene in a cave where it looked like someone got killed...but I'm not really sure who or why. There were several scenes that stopped just before the action started, only to show the aftermath later on, leaving the viewer to piece together what had happened. Overall, I still liked the film; it had a talented cast and an interesting plot.

Outcast
(2014)

Surprisingly Good!
It's a good thing that I chose to disregard the other critics and view this one anyway...it turned out to be pretty good. Sure, Nick Cage isn't on screen very much, but it's still a good story; it has some great cinematography, is well-acted and has good production values. It starts out during the Crusades, but doesn't stay there very long...it moves to the far east, and the characters from the beginning come into play later on. The fight scenes are directed kind of shaky(like Gladiator), but are still well-choreographed. I was expecting some kind of low-budget B movie with bad-acting, but I was actually pretty impressed with this one.
