Emperor of Ocean Park
(2024)

Irritating
I tried my best to watch this but I finally gave up after episode 3.

It reminded me of a nonsensical movie called Tenet. I couldn't understand it, and gave up after 30 minutes. This series got a little more time from me but, by the end of E3, it got too much time.

There was so much tooing and froing between timelines, that didn't really matter; it got frustrating. Most of what was being portrayed was padding. This could have been a 4 parter or at most, a 6 parter.

When the viewer reaches a point whereby they actually don't care what happens, the viewer has been lost. This seems to be the lot of viewers today, being dished up crap, covered in sugar.

You Are Not My Mother
(2021)

I tried
Really I did. I don't do horror movies, haven't for decades because, they're all the same, full of crap and full of nothing.

As it is an Irish movie, and I am Irish, I thought I'd give it a chance. The opening scene threw me straight away. Abuse of a child is a no no to me, everytime.

I was also lost with regard to the relationship between the three people in the opening scene. I saw a baby, a woman, and someone else in pyjamas. Who was who? Found out afterwards, but only because someone stated the scenario, after the fact.

Then there was the problem with the sound. Early into the movie, there is dialogue between mother and daughter in a car. It sounded like it was coming from a mile away.

I gave it a shot, it shot itself in the foot, we Irish do better than this.

Cottontail
(2023)

Unbelievable Beautiful
This movie came out of the blue, I was totally unaware of it. The only hook for me was Ciarán Hinds, my being Irish. I actually only became aware of it today 25/09/24, whcih is a shame.

I downloaded it and watched it the same night, what a wonder to behold.

I do not know the Japanese actors as I seldom watch Japanese movies. As mentioned before Ciarán was the hook, I've yet to see him in something bad. Brilliant hook.

Within 5 minutes I was engrossed, even though I had to use subtitles. The pacing of the scenes and the dialogue, gives the viewer the chance to garner what is being said, without taking away from the actual scene, as most modern movies do. That's the tech out of the way.

This movie stirs emotions that even a stone could feel. I figured out the probable diagnosis was. I should say, I'm only half way through the movie, and I know I'll be there at the end.

The love between the two main actors is experctly portrayed by both sets of actors, young and old. The director should be applauded for their sensitive direction. It could have been mushy, it wasn't, it was just right.

I'm looking forward to the ending, even though I surmise what it might be. I could be surprised, and is that a bad thing?

Lucy Worsley: Mozart's London Odyssey
(2016)

Disappointing
I have a high regard for Lucy however, this showing was very disappointing.

The subject matter was interesting, and something I was looking forward to seeing, especially as I like Mozart however, it was a bit of a disaster.

First of all was the scene where she was apparently playing a keyboard. The "ssspecial effects" suggested that, she was just miming. I had to pause viewing, go online and search, and found out that she studied piano for at least 14 years. Not a good start.

Then there was a following scene whereby she handled a book. As a curator and "historian", I was surprised that, she did not wear white gloves, which is the standard method of protection.

Then she spoke with a gentleman by the name of Horst Rieschenbo****. I couldn't get the name because it was a signed programme I watched, and the signer was in the way of the complete surname spelling.

Then there was the supposed piece of music that Mozart played which he learned in under 30 minutes, and did not memorise.

The name Leopold was mentioned, who was he? It apparently happend at around 9.45pm, what 4 year old would be awake at that time? And, if it wasn't memorised, how did a 4 year old read music better than their own language?

No doubt, he was, is, and will always be remembered as a musical genius. Sadly, this showing by a woman I admire greatly, fell very far short; especially when all of the above, happened in the first 10 minutes of the show.

I will watch to the end however, what I hear from now on. Will be taken with a very small pinch of salt.

The Boy That Never Was
(2024)

Disappointing
I watched the first two episodes and found them drawn out and draining. However, based on previous Irish Dramas, which have been more than excellent, I decided to give this a try. After all, how long is a joke?????

The first two episodes as previously mentioned, did something. They told a story that could be believed or disbelieved. That wa the premis of the series, was the child alive, or even existed...

I started to watch episode 3, gave it 5 minutes, and refused to watch the rest of the series.

I was so disappointed that, I deleted the rest of the episodes.

Ireland have produced a great number of TV Series in the past number of years, some having received accolades, and even International distribution. This is not one of them.

Earth
(2023)

Not Impressed
I am no paleontoligists however, I do have a fair amount of knowledge regarding the original history of what we call. Earth.

I liked some of the special efects that would draw in theose who have no idea of paelontology. Best guess is, the viewers saw Jurrisic Park.

There was something that didn't feel right about this series. I felt that an adgenda was being proposed to the general public, which would contradict what had been proposed beforhand..

We are all entitled to comment on what is espoused, we are also entitled to repudiate falsehoods. For the young, repudiate means, disagree. For the young, falsehoods means exactly what it means, wrongful information.

I will watch the series to the end however, my viewing mind is tainted because. I feel it is biased, and that is something I have never said before.

For the first time ever, I do not trust this series, especially it's sourse, whom have been impecible for over 60 years.

Shadow in the Cloud
(2020)

Crap
When did 21st century music epotimise 1940? That was enough to turn me off the movie, and was disgraceful to those who gave their lives, to those of us whom are alive today..

How do I waste letters for the next few minutes, to fulfil the requirements of IMBD, and hoe can I say thank you to those who gave their lives in WWII so that, you the reader, and I are alive today, and not living under Tyrenny?

This movie was an absolute disgrace, I make no apologies when I say I didn't watch it. My opening statement says it all, whether the reader likes it or not.

My question, did you, the reader, lose someone during WWII?

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
(2024)

Just OK.
A story of historical importance was treated like a 21st century bland movie, full of flash bangs for the small minded viewer, and not for the critical viewer. It actually made small, the heroics of those who were involved, both militaryl and civilian.

2 massive flaws I came across, brouth the movie down to average.

Durong the scene of the main operation, the result received about 0.5 of a second of proof, said scene being the towing of The Duchesse out of the harbour. Everything else was the aforementioned flash bangs, which may or may not have happened.

Then, in the closing credits, we were informed of the outcome of these brave people, who risked life and limb, to make sure the operation was a success.

It was lovely to see everyone were eventually rewarded, I liked the quote "you again" from King George. I especially loved the caption "Captain. Anders Lassen was pormoted to Captain".

I rest my case.

Saucy!: Secrets of the British Sex Comedy
(2024)

I'm First?
Can't believe I'm the first to review this 2 parter, never mind reviewing anything as a first responder.

Being Irish, what this series showed, was not known in Ireland at the time. It took many years for the Carry On films to be shown therefore, it gives a good idea of how consertive we were at the time (1970's).

This was a very informative documentary series, some things I did know about over time. Other things I didn't know about and, in some cases, made me angry, especially the way Mary Millington was treated, when all she wanted to do was, make sex, normal. The Metropolitian Police have a lot to answer for, along with the British Government of the day. And neither will be brought to account for coercive suicide, which is disgusting.

I abhor the exploitation of women, in any means; I'm delighted that some of the actresses interviewed, made a stand, and stuck by their principles. They have my utmost respect.

I also respect that the actresses who willingly partook in the sex movies, did so with free will. They were the lucky ones, did it with free will, and never felt intimidated. Unlike at the moment.....

The Regime
(2024)

Meh 2
I like a bit of satire now and again. The Great is one of the greatest modern satires the world has even known. This one is definitely not.

The worst part, I don't do middle crap, this could get a second series, unlike The Great.

It has been cancelled because cast and crew are supposed to get bonuses for season 4+. So much for learning the lesson of the actor and writer strikes of 2023.

What I don't also understand is, a grest series is made then, the last series is held for up to 18 months before release.

That is cruel to the cast and crew, and that is outrageous. What is the gain of upholding a series finale? Anyone?

It's going to end eventually, why hold it up for 18 months? I've never heard of an 18 month orgasm.

Monsieur Spade
(2024)

Meh
I tried, I really tried, I failed.

Whomever thought of making this series, was seriously deluded.

From what I see, they co-joined two characters played by Humphry Bogart (the young won't know whom I'm talking about), two different Noir movies he played lead character; made one series consisting of elements of both, and did a coin toss as to which character name would be used.

What a disaster.

It was so convoluted, it was laughable. I personally could not make head nor tail of what the storyline was, or where it was heading. By episode 3, I didn't care. I didn't even watch the end, I wanted to live.

Wednesday
(2022)

WTF
Didn't know about this series until I found out that series 2 will be filmed in Ireland, my country.

Naturally, being the inquisitive kind, I searched to find out who or what this series is about. I even managed to download it, considering it is 2 years old.

What a piece of crap.

The only resemblance it has to the original is, the name. It is terrible but, that is my point of view.

Mine comes from when I originally saw it back in the '60's. I pity the current generation who think this is brilliant, because they have no idea of it's origin, except through search engines, that may or may not, show original history.

I was on a night out, before I wrote this review. Sight was part of the conversation. Apparently Stevie Wonder is NOT blind. Now we're expected to accept AI?

No more comments. The intelligent will understand., the youth will not. Ironic that, so much technology that is available today, which is supposed to assist? Does the complete opposite?

The intelligent readers of this review will need no introduction. The rest won't understand because their mentality has been stymied through social media.

The Sympathizer
(2024)

Crap
The first rule of any TV series, Movie or Theatrical ensamblue, is to engage the audience. What the hell was this?

I'm too old to be screwed arouind by wannabes, who think this crap is the new norm. I don't do new norm.

I want to be enertained, I want to be informed, I want my brain to be engaged. Crap like this does none of this. I would have used the word neither however, most people don't know what that means.

It's a choice between 2 things, I mentioned 3, I don't think a word for a choice between 3 has been invented yet. Maybe it will, ask Alexis, or some other AI crap, we are about to be controlled by.

Criminal Record
(2024)

???
What the hell was going on with this series? I gave it 15 minutes for the intro, 10 more than I usually give for crap because of Zoe Wannamaker, that was the only hook.

I let the first episode unfold, it didn't. It collapsed. I was so inundated with information from multiple directions, I had no idea where it was going.

Is it to solve the murder of a girl in a phone box? Is it to exonerate a convicted priosner for a crime they may have not committed?

My brain said NO after 20 minutes.. I do not do brain dead TV series or movies.

I lived through the time when TV series and movies were good. It doesn't happen anymore. Both are geared to brain dead people. I'm not brain dead, yet.

Ripley
(2024)

Brain Dead
I lost 30 minutes of my life trying to figure out what was going on. I knew the premise of the series yet, saw nothing except, the opening story line, go to Italy, get my son back.

This reminded me of the last disaster I tried to watch, Tenet. The only person who understood the movie, was Christopher Nolan, I certainly didn't. This series follows suit, the only person who understands the series is, whomever came up with the idea.

I have no idea where this came from, why it happened, and where it was going. And I definitely do not understand the modern viewer, who gives raves reviews, on something that cannot be understood.

I'm moving onto the next series, whatever that is. Maybe it will be an improvement.

Revolution of Sound: Tangerine Dream
(2017)

Crap
Who the hell came up with the original idea? It was terrible.

The intro was enough to throw off fans, how the two reviewers got past it, beggers belief, I couldn't.

I expect they were Tangerine fans so, should have a modicum of intelligence. Anyone from the current generation have the intelligence of a gnat, with University Degrees, and know nothing.

I grew up with the the sounds of the band, and hoped this documentary would give insight I would not normally have access to. Unfortunatly, as I've learned from years of experience, this was not to be the case.

Someone jumped on a bandwagon that is decades old, hoped to make a name for themselves, and then, nothing. Such is the world today. 8 billion nobodies.

Flying for the Flag
(2023)

Very Dissappointing
As an Irish avid NASCAR viewer, I have seen The Bandits do fly overs prior to race starts. I didn't know who they were but, accepted them as flyover requests, the same as the military aircraft flyovers, over various race tracks.

I'm also retired military avation so, I know a little about military pilots and aircraft.

It wasn't until I came across this documentary that, I found out who this flight team actually are. I was looking forward to being informed regarding this flight team, unfortunately, all the information was given within the first fifteen minutes.

The rest of the documentary was just a gap filler, gave no information, and didn't even have good visuals.

Aircraft? We don't need Top Gun however, we need what we come to expect regarding War Aircraft, whether native or forgein. Information.

That may have happened over the course of the rest of the documentary, the problem was/is, no one was interested. It got bloody boring, even for those with aviation history.

I was looking forward to learing about these wonderful pilots, I gave up.

Masters of the Air
(2024)

Crap 2
I gave it a second chance, and it still failed.

How can dialogue be heard over, loud music and loud sound effects? Especially when neither match?

Now that I know that, this is supposed to commemorate an actual squadron ( I wasn't aware of until "now"), it is an insult.

617 Squadron was well represented. For those who don't know, The Dambusters.

I know that Tom Hanks was involved in this production. I know that the 100 were important. I also know the Red Tails were important, and I saw a better rendetition of their history, than this series that, I cannot hear because of sound difficulties.

Should Tom Hanks read this, he might do well to gather a crew very quickly, to make 2 documentaries. The last woman to deliver aircraft to the RAF during WWII, and the last Battle of Britian Fighter. He's Irish by the way, and he's 101.

Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells II
(1992)

Brilliant
Having grown up with Mike Old Field, there was little to say. However, having watched the video of TB 2, I am in awe, and not just about the musicians.

Bagpipes? Where did that come from?

As for the backing singers? Where do I start?

They are the best I have ever come across. The way they worked together is unbelievable. They should give 10 years of classes, in how they worked together in no time.

I hope that sometime, somehow, their beautiful, fantastic, renditions of backing vocals, will be recognised.

They were, and remain, fanstastic. I've never heard anything like them, and their likes, will never be heard again. No one will ever touch them.

The Bloody Hundredth
(2024)

WOW, a first
I didn't know about this documentary until after Masters Of The Air had come out, therefore I had no idea what to expect. I am so glad I watched it first.

This documentary covered so many things, I have to limit my review.

The movie Memphis Belle articulates the 25 mission completion, then return home protocol. However what most don't know is, the Norton Bombsite aiming mechanism, was a failure. Apparently, the aiming mechanism consisted of the only straight hair of a single American Native Woman. Who am I to judge?

Anyways, I divulge. I was delighted to see, interviews with two of the Red Tails. I have watched both movies based on these brave airmen, your job is to find out who they are.

When I heard Luft III mentioned, I knew straight away, where the documentary was going, in this this particular part. For the young, and the older who have forgotten? The Great Escape.

Another documentary which name escapes me, shows the humanity of the Camp Commandant.

When he found out that most of those who had escaped, were capture and executed; he had a monument erected to commemerate them. I'll leave you to your thoughts.

Maestro
(2023)

Disgrace
Know nothing about his personal upbringing, know nothing about his musical upbringing. I knew about his recording of Rhaphosdy In Blue. It's the only one I love. Wasn't even shown, by mention or music. What happened to his children? To denegrate their father? I was looking forward to a good movie, I saw nothing. What the hell was that long piece of classicical music that was played in the middle of the movie? Who the hell would know what it is was unless they grew up with that music. I knew Gershwin. I knew Leonard as Gershwin, this movie ruined him. Thankfully we don't need movies to appriciate conductors or musical writers. Actually? A conductor is a conductor. What do you call a person who writes a musical piece of genius?

Lessons in Chemistry
(2023)

The Best
I had no idea what this series was about, except the premis. I am now into episode 4 and had to make a comment.

Who ever came up with this idea deserves an award, as does the entire show.

This is a concept that no one ever came across until now, and it works.

I won't mention too much because, it may spoil the viewing, and some depicts what I hate. The abuse of women on many levels, and sexual assault.

I'm a man, and I'm ashamed to be called man at times, because of what has been depicted. In this series, and other prodcutions.

Watch this series, I find it fascinating, interesting, and informative. I know this line might appear to be mysoginistic, it's not.

I detest abuse of anyone, male or female, in any way shape or form however; abuse of women is prelevant. I admire ALL actresses who allow themselves to be portrayed naked. Very few men are so accommodating.

The only series to beat this in recent times is, "This Is Us", and most people know how good this series was. It covered a multitude and so does Lessons. It is different but, it is also the same. It covers humanity, something this world needs at the moment.

The Gone
(2023)

Was OK
It started good, continued good until the last episode.

Typical of modern series', get the good stuff in the series, then screw up the last episode, with so much unnecessary information, it ruins the plot.

There were two irritating thing regarding this series.

Sometimes subtitles appeared for the non speaking english speaking actors then, sometimes subtitles did NOT appear for the non speaking english speaking actors.

On top of that, the score overwhelmed some of the main acts of the series which drowned out the dialogue. Terrible mixing.

On the whole, the series was good, and unusual however, the last episode let it down.

I'm an Irishman, and I don't blame anyone per se. It worked well but, died at the last episode. I felt I was there until the end,, cudos to the indiginous actors and staff that brought this series together.

I detest using the term indigenous, am I indeginous to Ireland? I am Irish, Maori are New Zealanders. What is the name of their country, the country their ancestors inhabited?

Little Trains & Big Names with Pete Waterman
(2023)

Almost made the magic 10
Interesting programme about Peter's passion, which is shared by many. It also has a very interesting list of contributors whom I didn't know were passionate about model railways.

Watching the very limited series, I still was engaged with Peter's passion, and those with whom were included within the series. I even learned some of the tricks of the trade, to turn a simlpe train layout, into something spectacular. I just had one teeny weeny problem.

The outro music was irritating, in the way it was chopped and spliced. Being Irish and living in Ireland all my life, I shouldn't know the music however, I do.

I lived my youth in a border county and was lucky to be able to pick up the BBC and UTV from northern transmitters. I'm also a retired musician therefore, music has a rythem in my blood.

I'm disappointed to hear the ITN News theme chopped to fill the outro of what is, a very good programme about, something that most people would find boring.

At the time of the theme, I was a child, news was the furthest from my mind however; as a child I started playing music age age 4. Case closed.

If anyone reads this review, and would like to hear the original thems, just go to boobtube and call up ITN News Theme.

Neighbours
(1985)

It's gone
The revamp of the series is absolutely terrible. No one can garner who are the surviving cast members, and convoluted storylines bring back original characters in a context that NO one understands.

This is worse thanthe shower scene in Dynasty. How the hell did anyone come up with the scenario for Neighbours, that is being currently shown?

I will never watch it again, my memories have been shattered, and for what? Financial nostalgia?

If the storylines had been realistic, as the original seris was; I could accept.

The reboot is thrash. I refuse to watch the flashback. I'll leave that to brain dead viewers.
