No pun intended - I have been told I am voting way too ... well that I am being way too nice to too many movies (or shows for that matter) ... seeing how people voted here ... I think I can plead not guilty to everything I have rated - without anyone having a right to tell me differently.
Now just to be clear if you watched this trainwreck of a movie (I understand it probably was made for TV - still no excuse, even less so considering the year it was made) ... and felt entertained by it ... good for you! And I mean that wholeheartedly! I am also not going to dismiss any of the actors in this ... anyone can have a day off ... or multiple ones (I assume this was not shot in one day and I will not even suggest "quality" wise it would be more than possible) ... that said, the cliches, the over the top villain we are being served ... incredible for all the wrong reasons.
I am actually being kind in giving this 2 stars ... the German title of it maybe deserving a bit of that ... "The Cheerleader - Killer Queen" ... although that sounds like a way better movie than what we have here.

No pun intended - and while you should not be able to hear anything out there ... well the movie did not care about that. And you should not care either ... what you should care about ... the making of the movie! I mean I could tell and had heard some of the stories (extras on the disc I have of the movie) ... but there is so much more here.
This behind the scenes look is well done. Edited greatly and you have different sections for different aspects of the movie .. be it the casting, the making of ... the people behind the scenes ... the studio itself ... so many great stories ... and really highlighting how lucky the movie got ... and we as viewers ... because we got quite a gem! Very well done all ...

No pun intended - this has aged very well! And I am not (just) talking about the special effects. I assume you may feel differently about the effects - I mean don't expect them to be phenomenal ... but they are not worse than the effects that TNG had (hopefully you are a Star Trek fan and know what show I am referencing).
I remember that I liked this when I watched it back in the day ... but rewatching it (a bit late for the 25th anniversary ... but still) made me appreciate it even more. So many things worked in its favor ... the casting being just one small part of it all.
And apparently it all could have gone wrong - or sideways. While the movie did not really make much money when it initially had its theatrical run ... I think it was ahead of its time. The depiction of nerdiness ... amazing.
Back to the cast: naming everyone would just be too much/take up too much space. Everyone of the crew does a phenomenal job! It seems they were born for their role ... catching a then unknown Sam Rockwell ... having an lead "alien" who brought a lot to the role (like the way they talked and walked) ... Rickman who could not be more perfect (you want to watch a Nimoy documentary after this) ... Justin Long as the uber nerd and fan ... Weaver an Science Fiction icon ... I am counting them all right now am I not? Sorry and I still left out a few.
As you can tell perfect casting - also great people behind the camera. People who love Star Trek ... and it shows. As fans of the movie have said: it did not make fun of them ... it had fun with them! That's it in a nutshell actually.
Some movies make money and are forgotten ... this may not have made much money ... but people won't forget about it. The stars aligned for this one ... it starts off slow and may seem mean ... but there is so much heart, there is so much love after that ... it could have been a bit rougher around the edges I suppose and some more adult stuff was cut out of it ... but I would not change a thing about this ...
