Star Trek: The Next Generation
(1987)

Essential Viewing
'Space,The final frontier. These are the voyages of the star trek enterprise. It's continuing mission to explore strange new worlds,to seek out new life and civilisation. To boldly go where no one has gone before.'The legendary narration by the immortal Patrick Stewart leads us into simply unmissable television.Even for non star trek fans(which I was when I first saw it)you must watch this.By missing it you are ignoring one of the finest glory moments in television history.Where can I start? The design of the ship-flawless.The special effects-out of this world.Everything on offer moulds this into one fantastic creation. The characters are portrayed with extreme intensity. You can relate to them in every possible way.Stewart is impeccable as Captain Jean Luc Picard. He commands his crew with unparalleled integrity. His diplomatic dealings with other races endear him to everyone.Jonathan Frakes turns in an excellent performance as first officer William Riker. His character remains strong right through every series. For me the star of the show is Brent Spiner as the affable android Data. His humour though unintentional is superb. He longs so much to be human through his android demeanor yet dosen't give up when he realises he never will be.The rest of the cast are given the opportunity to show themselves in a good light and don't waste it even the much maligned Wesley Crusher. As close as you'll get to a visual masterpiece.Star Trek TNG left our screens in a blaze of glory in 1994.Thankfully Sky One still show repeats. It's quality has never been bettered by any of it's successors and shall be thought highly of for years to come.Without a doubt the finest sci-fi show ever.Only once in a lifetime does classics like this appear on our screens.Mankind should be grateful for the existence of this show

Hack
(2002)

Highly Recommended
A show about a disgraced cop turned cab driver. My first reaction when I saw it?I was impressed with it's originality and refreshingly good scripts. This reaction was sustained throughout it's entire lifespan.David Morse plays a cop with warmth, humanity and depth-some one you could easily relate to and actually care about. His heart is in the right place as he helps people overcome problems they encounter, this is accomplished with the assistance of an ex colleague.a priest and a damn good conscience. We learn he's had a messy marital split,he's trying to rebuild his life after being kicked off the force. He saved his friends job in the process of doing this. Thus endearing himself as a loyal friend even in the most testing of times.Filmed entirely in Philidelphia.the locations are perfect for this show. With the aid of wonderful co stars you are receiving a well engineered, excellently scripted and superbly acted show about a man who has had to face some difficult situations in his life.No episode was ever monotonous.Unfortunately it was treated accordingly by the networks.Enjoy it on ITV3.

The Lone Gunmen
(2001)

Mostly Poor
The Lone Gunmen had the potential as a x-files spin off to be very good indeed. However this didn't come to fruition.Don't get me wrong. Some of the episodes were quite credible. The main problem is most of the story lines fall flat on their faces. The idea of a blind American football team?C'mon give us viewers some creditI know it's a dramatic approach away from the x-files and supposed to be light hearted but still. The idea of the show is the transplantation of the popular Lone Gunmen trio Frohike,Langly and Byers from the x-files to their own spin off show and see what the characters are really like in their own wacky environment. No doubt everyone wanted it to work, but it didn't.The highlights however are limited to the appearances of guest stars and fellow x-filers Mitch Pileggi and David Duchovny. These appearances breathed much needed life into the show.On the whole though it suffered from lazy writing and highly questionable humour. This is reflected in it's one series life

CHiPs
(1977)

Highly Commendable Nostalgic Outing
When you were younger Chips was the kind of show you could really relate to.With the exciting, dramatic, way over the top chases, the bad guys always getting what they deserved and a cool 70's soundtrack. And all these years later? It's stood the test of time well.Watching the re-runs on Bravo all the feelings you had for it the first time are still intact. Many people's childhood is being relived watching officers Baker and Poncherello on the highways.Everything in this show makes you long for the good old days.Sure the bowl haircuts and the bleached white teeth may have been a little cheesy for some but it was the times.Do yourself a favour and tune into Bravo to catch this classic piece of 70/80's nostalgia

The Big Easy
(1996)

surprisingly good
When I first heard of The Big Easy Ihave to admit I had my doubts. The listings told me it was about an unconventional cop in New Orleans.I hadn't heard of Tony Crane who plays the cop Remy McSwain. My initial feelings were it was going to be repetitive, sleaze infested crap. How very wrong I was.Using the location of New Orleans to great effect you get a show with class, style and a great cast. The exciting adventures of Remy McSwain sustain your interest and each well scripted episode usually has a classic who dunnit? murder.A lot of twists and turns keep you guessing right up until the perpetrator is revealed. All in all,a great hour of television.A real pity it was cancelled after only two series's

Baywatch Nights
(1995)

more cheese from hasselhoff
Cheese is what David Hasselhoff does best and it is replicated here in all it's glory. The original Baywatch was good.It had a huge following worldwide and brought in a lot of dollars. But this lame spin off with x-file style situations? It's terrible and that's putting it mildly. How could anyone possibly take Hasselhoffs character Mitch Buchanan seriously?Or come to think off it,could anyone take anything Hasselhoff has ever starred in seriously?Every time this show came on it was a reach for the remote moment.Thankfully in the UK and Ireland it was consigned to a graveyard slot of about 1.00am.Most people wouldn't have even bothered checking the listings for this piece of self indulgent crap.Basically an ego trip for Hasselhoff

Knight Rider
(1982)

Campery of the highest order
David Hasselhoff stars as a mysterious young loner on a crusade to champion the cause...Yeah whatever, with his highly dubious afro and plethora of chest hair he is the archetypal cheese meister. With the help of his super car called kitt they drive about investigating crimes. For people to believe this their intelligence is being hugely insulted.Even young children could see through this joke of a show. The plots were paper thin, the humour was terrible and hasselhoff's acting along with his bit part co-stars is laughable at best.I'll not even mention Hasselhoff having a pencil line drawn above his lip(i think it resembled a moustache)to play the evil Garthe Knight. This summed the entire show up-an unfunny absurdity.Glen larson created a hideous programme which has been the bane of society.A happy day for civilization when it was finally cancelled. This abomination had infected our screens for long enough
