Good Eats: The Return
(2019)

He's baaack!!!!
Yes. The rumors are true. It isn't some wonderful dream. AB is back on the air.

As for the review well.... This is Good Eats. Back on the air. AB is still AB. He may be older now (ain't we all!) but it is still AB nonetheless.

Everything that has been said about the long running original series still applies: most educational, entertaining and clever cooking show that has ever been, etc, etc, etc.

It is AB. It is Good Eats. And he is back. That's pretty much all that needs to be said really.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a grocery list to attend to and a quick swing by the hardware store I gotta make really quickly if I'm gonna be ready for the rest of this season.....

35+ Years Later And It's STILL One Of The Best Documetaries Ever Made
Almost no series or movie seems to withstand the test of time flawlessly and documentaries always seem to be the hardest hit by the passage of years but this show is still absolutely fascinating, timely and well- presented.

One of the other reviewers likened it to the original "Cosmos" by Carl Sagean for it's timeless appeal and they're right- it IS just as timeless.

Granted, the "high tech" items that you see in the show are laughably old now and Burke's outfits are a bit dated but none of that matters because if you lifted the script and redid it word-for-word with new outfits and tech, it would still be interesting and applicable today.

In fact, actually, if anything it would be worse off for lacking Burke's approachable presentation style filled with infectious enthusiasm and humor.

TL;DR- Yes, it's old! But it's one of those you HAVE to watch at least once.

Ash vs Evil Dead
(2015)

They're actually still GOOD!
I was going to hate this. I KNEW deep within my very BONES that I was going to hate this.

I was a HUGE fan of the Evil Dead ever since I was a kid so when I heard about this show, blue-green visions of pathetic attempts at returns of beloved movies/TV shows of youth created by writers wrapped up in too much nostalgia to come up with a decent script and portrayed by actors who were so far past their prime that their skills had turned to dust passed before my eyes. Truthfully, these kinds of attempts are usually about as welcome as a Deadite at your grandmother's tea party.

This. Ain't. That.

While I'm not entirely certain but, I do believe that I finally managed to scrape my jaw off the floor somewhere around 20 minutes into the first episode. Because somehow, they actually managed to revisit a beloved story decades after it's ending and bring it back to life. And NOT as a Deadite facsimile of the original either.

The Raimis can still come up with a horrifically hilarious script and Campbell can still play our favorite thick-headed annoyingly petty hero with aplomb. Furthermore, the addition of Ray, Dana, Lucy and Jill all helped to actually bring a new life to that universe that I honestly don't think that I realized was missing until I saw them. They are perfect for their roles and their addition adds a richness that (forgive the heresy) I honestly almost think was missing in the original films now.

The somehow cleverly low-brow humor that we love is still there and the fun pours out of the screen with as much frequency as the almost-trademarked blood and guts fly.

It's obvious that everyone's grown up and older of course, hard not to acknowledge that but unlike a body, I think that in some ways they've actually gotten better with age.

As of the writing of this, I see that the slots for Season 2 have been posted even though they haven't been named yet, so I can only hope means that a Season 2 IS coming because, really, not only did I enjoy what I've seen of Season 1, I can honestly see myself watching MANY more.

Here's to hoping that they can keep it up because at this point, I'm beginning to think that Ash would still be funny when he's in the Old Folks Home and fighting with a walker.
