Sting
(2024)

Top Teir Horrof Film!
It's like someone made Little Shop of Horrors meets Aliens or rather that's what it reminds me of. I was expecting a very low grade horror movies and in a lot of ways that's exactly what it is, but the filmmakers did such a good job of putting it together that it just made for one of the best I've seen this year.

The monster itself was excellent. Just scary as hell and monstrous to boot. I feel like it was all about what needed to be show and what particular time and what did not and they did it with perfection.

Not much to say but to say it's definitely worth your time to see sting. Was not expecting much but got so much.

Civil War
(2024)

This movie was brillant!
Civil War has an interesting plot to it as it does not seem to out of reason that something like this would happen in modern day times. In fact I dare to say it is happening just not on the level of this movie.

However my favorite part of the film was the unexpected character development of Kristin Dust's character. I've seen this trend in a lot of movies lately in which they draw you in with the hot button topic but the movie takes a side step that has less to do with that topic. I've never seen it done so well then right here in this movie Civil War which was mostly a movie about what it takes to be a good journalist and the type of person who has what it takes to be that.

I saw something in the movie I was not expecting and it made me love it more.

Arcadian
(2024)

Far better than i ever expected!
This was a great movie!!!

It's only a good Nicolas Cage movie but it's a great movie. Nicolas Cage is a little tame in comparison. After all he's battling a herd of the strangest monsters I've seen so far. These things were the most freighting monsters I've seen so far. I feel the movie gave clues on what they were but I'm still not sure. Whatever they were they stole the show with the outright horror they brought to this masterpiece. Just one of the best and exciting horror movies I've seen, especially this year. Having Cage in this film was pure icing on one of the most delicious cakes I've ever eaten.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
(2024)

It's like they listened to me about the last flick and adjusted this movie accordingly.
As far as I'm concerned the original could have used less human story and just stuck with Godzilla and Kong going at it. I've said it out loud once and it feels like they heard me. Though the New Empire does have a human story it goes by so quick as to not let too much time linger between the Kong /Godzilla scenes. It threw me off at first cause I was not expecting such a short movie but it was jam-packed with all the monster fighting you needed. Particularly with Kong being a bigger focus on this movie than the other. So much so in fact that you could say that he was that human story I was expecting in the film. The destruction was wicked, No matter what Godzilla's duty to protect this earth in the Monsterverse being created, this movie makes it obvious that we are nothing but insects to this dude. There was something truly horrifying about the Death and Destruction that this movie was showing. I don't think any Godzilla movie was as globe trodding as the New Empire allowing the King of Monsters to commit to some serious genocide defending the planet as a whole. It's a little disturbing and I loved it, but it's the only thing this movie shares with the far better-done Godzilla Minus One.

Overall, it's the perfect movie experience.

Asphalt City
(2023)

Also starring Mike Tyson!?
I can't tell if that's a step up for Mike or a step down for Sean Penn. Unfortunately for Penn, I need to say the latter. This movie came and went without any promotion for it, despite what a great film it is. Tye Sheridan got to flex his acting muscle sparing with Sean Penn and of course Mike Tyson, who was fit for the role so it made sense. The film kept reminding me of the Martina Scorsese film Brining up the Dead, which starred Nicolas Cage in a role similar to Sean Penn, in fact, the concept of both movies almost makes Asphalt City a sequel. It does not help that there are not enough movies about the subject to think otherwise.

Anyway, this movie is too good to be hidden away like it seems to be.

Dogman
(2023)

Unexpectedly well done!
That unexpected part comes from the fact that I had no idea that it was directed by the great Luc Bensen. A pair of tights and a cape away from being the perfect comic book origin of a superhero Dogman is a character development piece that was formally crafted. It's stories like this that make characters like Batman and Spider-man stand the test of time.

Did not know what to expect but got everything. An memorable performance by Caleb Landry Jones and a new one i never seen before Jojo Gibbs who plays a psychiatrist Dogman tells his story to. A story that had me as much on the edge of my seat wanting more as the character was.

One Life
(2023)

What a touching story
Was not expecting a story done so well. The poster reminded me of the movie Anything Hopkins just did where he played Seigmond Freud, in fact that's technically not where the similarities of movies ends but I'll tell you, this was a joyess effort. Did not thank much of the motion as a watched in but as I start to understand the importance of who Nicolas Winton is or rather what he has done, this movie becomes an absolute tearjerker. An absolute inspiring tale of just one man who made a difference in so many lives simply because he thought enough to care. Can't say that anyone's performance was all that good or anything but the story everyone is telling made One Life worth it.

Immaculate
(2024)

Liked it but not my type of horror movie.
I should have known that going in. Whenever someone stars in a horror movie like Sydney Sweeny stars in this, I know it's not what I wanted to see. I feel like they were trying to make this horror movie sophisticated. Not really so much about the jump scares or frightening images but a real disturbance of the nature of society, causing you to think about what really scares you. That's ok but I do want to jump out of my seat when I see a Horror film in theatres. I like Sweeny in it. Not gonna lie, I'm one of those guys who thinks about one thing when I hear Sweeny's doing a movie and her efforts to change that are not bad. Oddly enough I liked her last effort the romantic comedy Anything But You better than I liked Immaculate, which I feel is trying to be smarter than it needs to be and for that missed the mark of what its supposed to be. Not to say it was not a so-so watch but it's definitely on the lower part of the list of movies I like this year.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
(2024)

This movie made me feel good.
I'm not one of these guys who's going to rip it apart because it does not measure up to the original (both the original Ghostbusters and Afterlife), but I will say is as much as I liked this film, I really wished this was a follow up to an authentic Ghostbuster 3. I would love to live in that universe, but this universe is pretty good. I really love how they are developing these movies. Not just the kid's physical growth but growth in the story. It makes no sense that the Ghostbusters would be stuck in 1984 and they are not. Especially Winsten Zedmore. This movie and the last really seemed to want to make up for the fact that they kind of dismissed his popularity in the first set of movies to making him the pinpoint to why the Ghostbusters are back in these films.

It was a huge ensemble cast. It was actually cool that so many people were in the movie even though most of them had no importance in the movie, with ofcourse the exception of Bill Muray who felt like they needed to squeeze a man in the film that did not want to be there but I'm sure the paycheck was huge just to say they have all the living Ghostbusters to make this movie cannon. On the other hand, real surprising how Kumail Nanjiani's role actually met something and worked well with a story with a lot of layers to explain the huge cast.

Overall, I enjoyed myself. It was a good combo of feeding me great nostalgia while moving the franchise forward. I actually can't wait to see their Ghostbusters 3.

Road House
(2024)

Would i have like it better f it was not called Roadhouse?
Would it have been better if they just made a rip off of Roadhouse and called it something else and despite people loving it a lot we all noticed they ripped off Roadhouse? I have to say when it comes to action movies, I cannot see that not working. I think that there is enough power for Jake Gyllenhaal's star to have called this movie anything they wanted and get away with it being a rip-off of the 1989 classic. Then again it may shock some how many people did not see the original (it's just that everyone (man) who has seen it unconditionally loved it!)

I like this movie. It's your typical action movie, nothing more, good action sequences, cool fights, Corner McGregor's acting was so bad it's entertaining. The story plot was interesting with its quick pasted twists but made the movie longer than expected. Overall, not a waste of time at all, it was worth seeing. I would have seen this in the movie theatre.

But admittingly, Patrick Swayze was a different type of man of a different generation than Jake Gyllenhaal's Dolton. It felt like Swayze's Dalton was a nontoxic man you could bring to the present, but Gyllenhaals' take was too attached to the new man of today, not a bad thing at all just different, different enough that this should have been a good rip off of Road House, not a remake.

Snack Shack
(2024)

Wow! this movie was not made in 1991?
For some reason, I was skeptical about the movie's claims of being a throwback of the early 90s, but I have to admit that skepticism walked out the door real quick from the very beginning of the movie. I'm guessing this is what Nebraska was like in 1991 but I can tell you 1991 was like this for a lot of teens at that time. On top of that despite how the tone in comedy lends itself well to that late 80s and early 90s teen genre that flourished at the time, the coming-of-age story was timeless.

Snack Shack is a well-done movie. Charming in its nostalgia and warming in its character development. Everything was so alive and it made for a great movie to watch.

Kung Fu Panda 4
(2024)

The franchise is still enjoyable and entertaining
Yeah, on the bright side, Kung Fu Panda still has the magic. Its a fun watch overall. Welcoming back Jack Black as Po is fantastic, he's still measuring up the character as fantastic as when I first saw him in the original, and his cover of that Britney Spears song he does as Tenacious D was exactly what I wanted The addition of Awkiafina was perfect. What!? Is she just doing voice-overs now? Viola Davis voicing the new Big Bad, Chameleon was the nail in the coffin for me. Having Ian McShane come back as a Ti po only proved that Chameleon was the best villain in the series yet and the plot serves as Fan service to those who love the franchise made this whole experience worth it I was nervous about the film because from the trailer I knew that this was out with the old and in with the new. Jack Black has become a bankable star since the first flick. Is it possible that his paycheck was so big that they could not afford to get Angelia Jolie and Jackie Chan in a voice booth for a few hours to come up with just a handful of sentences? They were missed greatly.

However, despite my disappointment of not seeing the old characters in this new movie the new movie does not suffer too much for it. I feel the thunder once more.

A Hip Hop Story
(2024)

Funny, man! Funny!!
I've heard that Affron Crocket blew up because of an impersonation of Russell Simmons he did on YouTube, but I think this was the first time I got the full blast of it. It's a good Russel Simmons or Rascoe Simmons if you will. A Hip-hop Story is one reflection of a Hip-hop Head's observation of what has happened in the last 50 years, the reflection was so good that it made us wish that the movie was not telling the story in parody. I'm slightly skeptical about the film's opinion on modern-day hip-hop. I ironically agree with it but I'm not in touch enough to say it's accurate (I would say the movie would say my statement makes them right).

It was a cheap movie that could not afford to make the 1980s look like the 1980s, but luckily it was funny. Affrion Crocket knows his hip-hop and knows how to poke fun at it with hilarious results.

For what it was it was fun.

Dune: Part Two
(2024)

Yeah, it was good but would have been better if it was shorter.
Keep in mind Dune is not really my type of Sci-fi. I love the work of Denis Villeneuve, particularly in relationship to Dune he did Blade Runner 2049 which is one of my favorites and Arrival which I greatly enjoyed.

You can tell this joint is visually stunning, despite it just being desert scenes. I did spend a little more cheddar to see it on the best screen which I do not regret.

The movie does expect you to know something about what came before it but obviously I can't blame them. I saw the first Dune which is the only reason why the first hour makes sense. Then we get into the second hour, and I have to say this movie is not filled with much conflict. I felt nothing for Paul Atriedes played by Timothee Chalamet, I ponder why Chani, played by Zendaeya was even there and I'm not sure who the bad guy was as Dave Bauista's, Glossu was a winning baby Stellan Skargard seems senseless and I was more bedazzled with Christopher Walken because it felt like forever sense, I see him in something. These are the main character in a huge assemble cast and I could not have care less.

Who did do something for me is Javier Bardem as Stiligar whose Morpheus from the Matrix-like belief in Paul was entertaining, Rebecca Ferguson as Paul's mom who I felt gave the best subtle but sinister performance of all the subtle but sinister performances in the movie and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha who stole the scene whenever he was on it.

The third hour of the movie was where the story picked up how I wanted to but by then I was tired and wanted it to be over. I was not bored out of my mind with part two but is seems like Villeneuve ability to make a complex Sci-fi film that is masterfully quiet with the story but loud with the Visual and Sound effects worked for me better with his sequel to Blade Runner.

Drive-Away Dolls
(2024)

Good Watch
It was fun to watch overall. Not as odd as a story as it seems. The formula is very familiar, it's just the metaphorical Kool Aid Jar is filled with a different color other than red.

While the two main characters got to develop themselves to the point where I loved Geraldine Viswanathan but actually found Marget Quigley annoying (or rather her ancient), the movie felt like it should have been an ensemble but that's not what I got, which may have just been me noting that Colmen Domingo and Matt Damon just wanted to be in a movie directed by a Cohen brother and just took any part they could get.

But I nick pick. Its not going to win any awards (or rather is shouldn't) but it was a good movie to take a look at.

Altered Reality
(2024)

I don't know what's going on.
Give the movie credit. Thinking back on it it has somewhat a concept straight out of a Steven King novel, but it would have been better if King himself at leased outline the story.

Stories about Time Travel can be hard to do especially when you are trying to be cleaver about it.

I can't say that I did not understand what was happening in the movie so its not confusing, but maybe confusion would have served the movie better as their was not much excitement to it.

If you don't understand what I'm getting at from this review than you understand how I feel about this movie. It's not a bad movie, but it left me pondering on weather it was worth it.

La passion de Dodin Bouffant
(2023)

Don't wacth on an empty stomach
It was a great film! A cinematic masterpiece that only the French can do. That food look so good you should not watch this movie in a place that only serves stale salty popcorn.

Seriously, it was amazing how you can get to know and love characters simply by watching them make food, but that's how this movie was done.

I do have to admit, however, the more into food you are the better the movie. So maybe you should see it on an empty stomach. Those cooking montages were amazing artistic genius, but long. I like it over having to read subtitles but I give you that warning just in case.

I don't think I ever seen a movie that caters to food lovers on the live the Taste of Things does and it was done brilliantly.

Out of Darkness
(2022)

Love it for its originality, thought it was brilliant.
It's a horror movie that takes place 45,000 years ago. Can't say that I've ever seen that before and I thought they did a fascinating job with what I saw. Could it have been better? Yeah. Maybe. The fact that they made up a dead language for the actors to use is a bit much, but in all honesty, it was very easy to follow the story without any dialogue at all, which is great and rare for contemporary movies. The visual aspects did a great job telling the story.

Nowhere on the level of Quest for Fire, but the horror beats chiming in on a story about the early days of man trying to survive in the wilderness was interesting.

Land of Bad
(2024)

Enjoyable action movie.
It seems like the type of movie that will come and go which is too bad because it was decent. Not the best I've ever seen but purely entertaining for what it was. Liam Hemsworth is starting to look more like his brother Chris in his old age. Possibly the one disadvantage to the film because you look at Liam and you think Chris in those Extraction movies but this movie is not on that level.

Russel Crowe was amazing in this film. He did so much with so little. It was a part that felt like anyone could play but Crowe put on the acting muscles for this. I see why he's won an Oscar. He's not going to win one for this but he gave a charming performance that made the non-action parts more interesting Yeah man, truly sorry that this movie seems to be designed to go straight to the streaming services after a courtesy release. Never even heard about it just saw it pop up on my movie theatre app very suddenly when I wanted something to watch.

Well worth the time!

Madame Web
(2024)

I should not have went to see this.
It's not that I can't believe how bad this movie is, it's that I can't believe how little I got out of it. I got nothing. Just a complete waste of time if there ever was. The Spider-Man connections were cute but did not come with enough fan service to save this burning hot garbage.

I mean, how did this get made? It's been a long time since Dakota Johnson starred in the 50 Shades Trilogy. That wasn't even good but it would make sense if Madam Web came out closer to that time. Also, think it would make more sense if Sydney Sweety was Madame Web, being an up-and-coming star.

Yeah man, nothing to justify here, don't see it! Ever!!

Bob Marley: One Love
(2024)

For the love of Bob Marley.
This is the best bio pick about a musician ever. The story is not that keen, I would have been just as pleased watching a documentary on Marley, but thanks to the involvement of the Marley family as producers the music is there. It's rare that all the music on the subject can be in the movie. I've seen biopics where certain songs can't be used because the family will not allow them, but One Love examines all the songs and showcases all of them in the movie.

If it's about anything it's about that and I loved that, getting to hear the music and getting that story behind the music.

I thought Kingsley Ben-Adir was great as Bob Marley myself. He was transformed in this film.

Once again, it's all about Marley. If you love the music its good.

Fighter
(2024)

High levels of enjoyment
"Hey, can we make a Bollywood rip off of Top Gun?" "We sure can!" If you ask me, they took a really big risk on this one, cause this movie could have been pure trash, but it was not pure trash it was just enough trash to have me laughing out loud about the fact that it is Top Gun: Bollywood style.

As someone who grew up in the 80s, I did appreciate how Bollywood's style lends to an 80s-style action with their manly men doing manly things moto. Yet at the same time they gave a moment of feminism. Good show.

Yeah, I could have done without all the singing and dancing but I will say there was actually two musical numbers in the film i truly enjoyed, which technically makes this the best Bollywood flick I ever scene LOL!

Not a waste of time.

Lisa Frankenstein
(2024)

If I can predict a cult classic, I predict this one.
It's horror, its teen comedy its nostalgia all wrapped up in a perfect package appealing to the future Tim Burton's and Robert Smith's of the world. Especially if they are girls.

I watched this movie and I'm strange enough to understand where Lisa Frankenstein is coming from but there is a refreshing female gauze that covers the film nicely. I mean, I feel like I would have missed something watching this at home instead of with a theatre filled with women who laughed out loud to situations I just found passingly amusing. I thought this movie was great and thought it was great that the movie was not directed towards me.

Lisa Frankenstein is for those strange kids in high school but especially if you are that weird girl.

Argylle
(2024)

I liked it...Kinda
Argyle shows me that director, Matthew Vaughn has a knack with silly spy-based action movies by making one that's...not up to speed.

I went into this with high expectations, but the ride was too slow for the 4DX ticket i used to see this movie.

Everything was there but nothing clicked. I've seen Sam Rockwell do better in the worse of movies and his chemistry with Bryce Dallas Howard was ineffective.

The All-Star cast was ineffective as well. Argle has a bit of surrealism to it, used to fit in all the big names in this picture, but nothing was gelling like it was supposed to.

Once the story of Argyle was completely unfolded the movie finally picked up the pace, but by then, I was done with it.

Wait to stream it at home.

Mean Girls
(2024)

Wish someone would have told me this was a muscial
I did not hate it but I did not like it enough not to zone out when they started to sing. No song in this movie was good enough to leave a lasting impression.

Was the first Mean Girls a musical too? If it was that means I definitely did not see it but I feel like I have seen it at least once, maybe dozed off on it.

I'm a huge fan of vengeance, revenge, and redemption, and even though I would prefer people wearing capes and cowls when they perform these duties I enjoyed this movie for all three factors.

I'm told this is not as good as the classic, it never is, and since I only remember enough about the first one to smile with glee when a certain cameo happens I can only say that I did enjoy everything that was happening on screen. Well, everything but the musical numbers.
