Land of Bad
(2024)

Better than it should be
The title of the movie is atrocious. The movie itself is not.

The main character is likable and goes from a out of your depth scaredy cat to bad ass hero in the span of a short few days. The action is suspenseful and is beautifully and professionally shot. There's no ametheur feel to it like I thought there would be based on the name and actors involved. This seemed like a AAA blockbuster and its production value showed.

The story is near non existent and there are a ton of far fetched eye rolling ya right moments like when there's personnel dying on the mission and the other soldiers are cheering a basketball game with no regard to how sideways the important mission is going. But overall, its a movie and some exaggerations must be accepted for the extra drama it entails.

Overall, if you like old fashioned American badass heroes, this is your cup of tea. Be warned, there are no mary sue, 110 pound women saving anyone in this movie and that's just fine by me.

The Night Agent
(2023)

Entertaining but flawed
The story was entertaining in a 'don't think about it too hard' kinda way and the cliffhangers on each episode were masterfully done. Unlike many Netflix shows, the ending of the season was actually complete and satisfying which is a sad high note in today's television where shows like The Diplomat end abruptly with no resolution to nearly any of the dramatic threads.

The downsides to this show are difficult for me to look past. The acting overall was terrible. There was almost no chemistry between the 2 leads and the romantic stuff was down right embarrassing. The Farr character was simply the worst and nearly all of her lines sound like it was being read off a sheet of paper. Nearly all the characters were shallow and none of them grew or developed in any way. They all were 1 trick ponies from start to finish.

Overall, I would not say this watch was a waste of time but also not good enough where I have any lasting excitement for season 2.

Brave New World
(2020)

Great start, Horrid finale
I was really hooked after the first 3 or 4 episodes. I was intrigued and engaged, then once they escape the savage lands and get back to New London, it starts going downhill quickly. The whole jealously drama love triangle thing was so boring and all the "love" relationships felt rushed and under developed. I am not sure what this show wanted to be about but by the end, I didn't really care about any of the characters. And then the final episode was such a disaster with no quality wrap up or explanation of what happened. All the buildup of Indra, epsilons, John, Bernard and Lenina, and no satisfying conclusion on any of it. I felt robbed not cause they wasted my time, but because the premise and characters were engaging at the beginning and became down right unlikable by the end. So sad.

Yet another show that just bones you with the ending
The whole season introduces plot points and drama with very little resolution to any of it. It seems as though the season should be 16 episodes long and they just stopped at episode 8. No resolution, only questions. When a series does that, I'm not apt to return for season 2. Its just lazy writing. Have a plot beginning, middle, and end and then leave a few danglers for season 2. They went all.....let's have no resolution to anything but make every plot line a dangling mess.

The Courier
(2019)

B Action movie
If you have no expectations for this then it won't be atrocious but it will still be bad. If you have any thought of, 'Oh wow, Gary Oldman is in this, its probably going to be decent', you're in for a nasty surprise. Simply terrible

Impulse
(2018)

More soap opera than suspense
This show's pilot was well done and hooked me. I watched until episode 6 and had to shut it off midway and now I am done with this series. Each episode started the first 2 minutes with some sort of drama around the jumping and then ended with 2 minutes of drama around the jumping but the middle 40 minutes was teenage soap opera a kin to an unlikable Dawson's Creek. There was literally a scene in one episode that was more than a minute long where one of the teenage girls goes on a porn site to learn how to give a blow job. I was like, I thought this show was about jumping and I'm watching some angsty sophomore in high school worry about giving a boy she likes good head. After many many many scenes like this where you are wondering how this is related to jumping, I was done.

Save yourself some time and skip this one.

On a good note, production quality, acting, and directing was very good.

Ultimate disappointment
I don't even know where to start with this movie. The concept was unique and that's about where anything resembling interesting ends.

Make no mistake, this is not an action, comedy, horror, or suspense. This was a full on drama chalked full of scenes of long car rides, aimless walks, and lots of silent reflections. The only problem with this drama, I am not sure who the demographic is here. Its a zombie themed movie that certainly the older generation that is more into reflective dramas like this would not be into. But then its not for young ADHD generation who can't sit through a 2 hour long snoozefest. The whole movie I was hoping for a payoff at the end when the incredibly difficult decision that whatever the dad's name is has to make, is decided....but it never happens. The movie just ends and the dad never makes the call.

And of course that's on top of the fact you have to believe that Arnold whos in his 70s would be married to a 40ish year old woman and have an oldest daughter in her teens. Riiight. I imagine the negotiations went something like this...

Producers: OK Arnold, You're a cagey old lovable grandpa with a teenage granddaughter and....

Arnold: Let me stop you right there...I'm the dad.

Producers: *shuffling papers* uhh ya, OK you're the dad. And your daughter has 2 young children, I mean your wife...Ahh screw it. Here's a bunch of money.

Arnold: I only use grenade launchers and I won't say "I'll be back"

Producers: Uhhh, here's even more money and the script.
