Get Crazy
(1983)

brilliant
My wife and I just watched this again today. Between the brilliant comic timing, imaginative casting and over-the-top Foley work, it's one of my top ten films. Why it's not out on DVD, I'll never know. First-time viewers (especially older ones) will be amazed to see how many musicians are acting in the film, and that they can actually act! John Densmore (The Doors) is great as Toad, Howard Kaylan (The Turtles) is brilliant as Captain Cloud, Bobby Sherman and Fabian make totally believable sycophantic henchmen and Lou Reed is great as Auden, the Bob Dylan-esquire singer. If you can find this movie, buy it, rent it, love it.

Getting Together
(1971)

This series was a bad influence on me
When this show first came on, my teen-aged cousin forced me to watch it so she could get her Bobby Sherman fix. I became fixated on the hearse they drove. When I later bought a hearse, I became a fixture in my town. Guess this series fixed me! Seriously, if you liked the Partridge Family (admit it, we all did), you'll probably like this one too, provided it ever gets dug out of the archives and put onto DVD. It's unlikely this will happen, though, it only ran for one season and in retrospect, it must have been pretty unsubstantial if the only thing I remember from the whole season was the cool hearse and my parents telling me that I'd never own one.

Evil Toons
(1992)

Let's look at this movie for what it really is
Face it, Evil Toons was never conceived as Oscar material. It's a deftly crafted spoof on every B & C horror movie made in the last 50 years. You have your typical Blonde, Brunette & Redhead with their brainy friend (she's the one with the glasses, natch) bimbos who get a job cleaning out an old house. They find an evil object, release a nasty spirit and get killed off in ways that reflect who they are. Then your cameo (David Carridine) comes in and tells the surviving (smart) one how to repair the damage, and everything comes up roses. Looked at it this way, you have a quickie shoot transformed into a masterful spoof. I loved it, you will to, if you don't take it too seriously!
