The Creator: A Flawed Creation Worth Watching 'The Creator' is a well made movie. But before I mention the positives, let me get the negatives off my chest. I got so many negative things to say only because I like this movie. Not sure if that makes sense.
Even before the start of the film, they claim that Nirmata is a Nepalese word. It is not. It has always been a Sanskrit word. That is a well established fact and is well known. Even the entire Nepalese language is derived from Sanskrit including its written script. It is nothing; but when movies get facts wrong, I don't feel good. Even the whole "Nirmata" plot felt too cringe, it's like a 'cult', surely they could've done something better.
Coming to plot, The USS Nomad is certainly cool. But they've established the fact that it ain't got no solid shields or defenses, since a plane they didn't want approaching USS Nomad, did approach it and ultimately led to Nomad's destruction.
That gets me to next point, which are the governments. Its like there is no other country with a govt other than the US. This "New Asia" contained parts of China & India both of which have nukes and are next to US in military power. Even if they establish the fact that this "New Asia" doesn't have nukes which they didn't, you don't need a nuke to take down the USS Nomad which is just hovering in the high skies if not low earth orbit. Simple SAMs, ASATs or air-to-air missiles could take the USS Nomad down. They've not established why New Asia govt hasn't tried to take down USS Nomad when it is attacking their people on their land. I mean countries don't even allow foreign balloons floating in their skies.
Both Maya and Alphie needed more screen time to better explain the plot and for the audience to connect and care for them, which didn't happen. While Alphie has a lot of screen time, I feel like it hasn't been utilized properly.
The setup to the plot felt more exciting and interesting than the film to be honest. The AI emergence, and AI nuking Los Angeles - I would give top dollar to watch a prequel.
That said, I loved so many aspects of the film. The initial sequence showing the history was awesome. The visuals, cinematography, & VFX was top notch. The plot while not great is decent enough if you look over the plotholes. You wouldn't feel bored while watching the movie, it's entertaining. I am just happy that such ambitious, original sci-fi movies are still being made.
