Gulaal
(2009)

Why do people keep saying that?
Most of the people, even those who loved Gulaal, are saying that the first half was good; but the second half was slack.

People said the same thing about Dev D and I find it really hard to understand. How can one not enjoy the amazing performances/script/music/cinematography, instead of expecting the director to show us what we exactly want to see? My advice is that you should get up in the intermission, take a leak, maybe get some Coke and popcorn if you must, and then relax, sit back and enjoy.

Its 5 in the morning now and I still can't get over the movie. If Dev D was a perfect 10, then Gulaal is 10.5

WALL·E
(2008)

Nobody is perfect and Pixar is definitely not a nobody....
There is no doubt about the fact that all these movies are absolutely right. All these movies about machine intelligence and how they'll rule the world. Though, its not like machines will become more human. Instead, each and every day, I can see more and more people losing intelligence and becoming more and more like bots. From the rating of this movie on IMDb, it's clear that we, pure Humans, are already in minority.

I, in fact, don't watch television. So unlike other folks, I had no idea, anticipation or excitement for this movie. I'm thankful for that because I would have been even more disappointed. I went to a corporate screening as my friend had an extra pass. I just knew that it was a Pixar movie and that was all I needed to know. Not anymore.

The movie starts and it definitely generates curiosity. I like environmental and political sarcasms as long as they are funny. All that premise about the huge junkyard and skySCRAPers was good. Then I see a robot crushing garbage. I was still holding up. Then I realize that this robot has a pet cockroach.

I could not believe it! Poof! All my hopes for a good movie went for a toss. We are not in 60s anymore! Don't give me a robot with emotions. Not in the first scene. Maybe a tear drop from an android's eye in the end. But not in the first scene.

For the rest of the movie, I was barely awake and looked at my watch more than the screen. In the intermission, I could hear orgasmic voices of all the software engineers around me, praising the animation and you know...stuff. My friend gave me that smile which says - "Awww, Its OK. Don't embarrass me with your thanks. But I just gave you the best ever movie experience, didn't I?" With wide-open eyes, I kept looking at all the happy faces around me, gleaming about the animation and you know....stuff.

The movie is good for playing it on HD plasma screens, without sound, at a store. But who the gives a flying rat's whatever about the animation, if the movie is boring, slow, devoid of human emotions and full of machine emotions? I hate robot voices and I'm being very honest here - I couldn't get the name of the other robot correctly. So I had no clue which robot is supposed to be the...ahem...you know...male. I wholeheartedly second the notion that Wall-e was gay.

Anyway, I've lost faith in IMDb ratings since our bot friends placed The Dark Knight on the top slot. It was good while it lasted.

Fanaa
(2006)

Only for Amir Fanaa-tics
For the first 2 minutes I thought that its a spoof on Karan Johar movies. Then I realized what I was in for! 3 long hours of pure crap. I went with very low expectations. But I was secretly praying that Fanaa would not be a simple love story. It would be something with a twist like 1947 - Earth.

Kajol looked great though. But rest everything is so totally crappy. There are thousands of close-ups, obscene sentimental background score at every 2nd dialog.

Amir was a big disappointment. He has proved the innocence of Shahrukh Khan - "If the director is adamant for sentimental crap, you can not do anything about it". I liked first 3-4 instances of Shayari. But after 10 minutes, it started giving me a headache. It was like the sound of a big metal trunk being dragged on the floor. Yes, his expressions are becoming repetitive and his tummy is getting bigger. I guess he is stressed because he is pregnant.

Fanaa was worse than Kal Ho Na Ho and slightly better than Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon.

So bad, they chose this very cute kid to play young Rehan. Otherwise I would have hunted him down and given him the beating of his life. The child's character was so boring and irritating. Something like Amisha Patel; cute, but irritatingly stupid/retarded.

The biggest itch in the balls : I can't find people who share my view. Especially girls are going crazy about this movie, as expected. Indian audience doesn't deserve good movies.

Gunda
(1998)

Not about only Mithun
This film is not about Lord Mithun himself. This is the saga of all the divine characters with their divine introductions and dialogs, with Lambu Atta topping the list. The brute intensity of every single soliloquy from Lambu Atta and the regiment leaves you stunned with tears in your eyes and your guts aching. This is not just a movie; Its a celebration of emotions, love, family ties, clichés, political satires and the biggest of all - objectivity of death and forced fornication.

Its still debated whether this movie was meant to be this funny or its just a co-incidence. I don't know what did the actors have in their mind when they were delivering their lines. They must be suppressing their laughter so hard that it reflects on a subconscious level. A very serious warning though; don't watch for more than 20 minutes at a stretch. You might even die of over-dose.
