V for Vendetta
(2005)

Freedom Of Thought
I am grateful for this film, for after watching and rewatching the movie a couple of times, I discovered its greatness more and more. It is not a traditional sci-fi movie, it's a touching drama about the value of freedom, danger of sell-out right-wingers and the importance of making the most of what you've got. One of the most important themes in the film is the question of what is more valuable - safety without freedom or breathing a true life. The film gives an answer - it just opens our eyes and makes us aware that we should be grateful for being free to some extent still.

This film scares establishment types, conservatives and the many racists among them.

Star Trek Beyond
(2016)

Bad And Boring On Many Levels
Poor Gene Roddenberry. He had good intentions, but his legacy has been crushed by his offspring, his wife, the studio system and capitalism.

This stuff is just pure crap. The actors and crew are just shameless hacks that are no different than common prostitutes except prostitutes deliver pleasure and are providing satisfaction to clients.

What is more is Hollywood with its 100% line-up of sequels and prequels has given up trying altogether and is just recycling trash to the max. See the motorcycle scene in this film - yes, I said motorcycle that Battlefield Earth-style still runs of course three centuries later - where the 'special' effects could have stemmed from a Commodore 64 PC from 1986.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
(2015)

Just A Tool To Make Money For Disney
I do not have a hard time placing this film. On one side it's so typically hollywoodish - it's a super-production with Star Wars-related content that would make it probably to many Fan film festivals. It's very conventional in its Sunday morning TV message and the morality tale that it tells is quite conventional, and of course, we know the end of the story, either because we have watched Star Wars or because we have seen enough films from Hollywood or for both reasons. On the other side it's a film by JJ Abrams, so there is a dose of mainstream story-telling and inexplicable plot developments in its characters. The special effects are 100% created for the movie and uninspired.

So it's the story of Episode IV without any twists.

What makes it worse are elements of fan fiction in the story telling, distracted (but not awful) acting from Leia, Rey and others and the computer-generated special effects which succeed to create a level of thrill to a story. Did we need this story and episode? At this level of amateurishness the answer is no.
