Haunt
(2019)

Pleasant surprise and definitely worth the watch
"Haunt" (produced by Eli Roth) was a surprisingly good horror flick. I was really surprised that I hadn't heard of it, as it was a very recent movie that just came out in 2019. It had a few good twists and definitely kept me on my toes up until the very end. I was not expecting much from Roth after "The Green Inferno" and "Knock Knock" were both fairly disappointing to me. The writers of this movie were the same ones who wrote "a Quiet Place" which I wasn't actually too big of a fan of. There was definitely a good amount to gore, but not too much to the point where it was disgusting and hard to watch. I liked that the protagonists in the film were developed in a way where at first I was indifferent towards them and by the end I really wanted them to win.

8/10

Into the Dark: All That We Destroy
(2019)
Episode 8, Season 1

Definitely the best episode so far
This was my favorite of all of the 'Into the Dark' series on Hulu. It reminded me of Black Mirror, how it was set in the future with crazy new technology. I really liked the sci-fi horror blend. There is a twist at the end that makes me want there to be a follow up.

The acting was incredible in this episode. There were a few moments that seemed a little bit unrealistic in terms of what a character would decide to do. Like for instance, I don't understand why Maurissa was so set on breaking into the main character's house. But to avoid any real spoilers, I just have to say there are many twists and turns in the story line that kept it interesting throughout. You will enjoy this one if you liked Black Mirror or Ex Machina. It's a little different style wise than any of the past Into the Dark episodes but I ended up preferring this. My second favorite episode was probably "Down."

Abby's
(2019)

May be the worst show ever created
I have never seen such a bad show. It's so boring, and filled with nothing that seems natural or real. The actors individually aren't bad but they are given such crap to work with from the writers. I am continuing to watch (on episode 5 now) but only to hate watch it and baffle myself as to how something so bad could have possibly been produced.

T2 Trainspotting
(2017)

Don't believe the critics...this is a masterpiece of a sequel
I was thoroughly impressed with this sequel. It was exciting, surprising, and took some turns that no one could have predicted. I don't know what all these negative reviewers were expecting. Did you just want to see a bunch of mid-40s junkies all getting together to do the exact same thing they did when they were in their 20s? That would have been boring as shite. There is character growth (and without spoiling anything) in some places I would have never guessed. The movie almost had me in tears at certain moments. This was not just a reboot for the sake of getting some money from a successful movie. This was an honest to the original piece of artwork that anyone with an open mind who liked Trainspotting would enjoy thoroughly. Outstanding soundtrack, wide variety of emotions expressed, and best of all (in my humble opinion) the cinematography was out of this world phenomenal. Choose Trainspotting 2.

A Cure for Wellness
(2016)

Breath of Fresh Air to the Horror and Psychologic Thriller Categories of Film
Can't believe all these bad reviews or the horrible percentage it has on this website. This movie broke all expectations I had and was filled with twists and turns that will leave your head spinning even after the film is over and it's been half a day. Before going into my review, I just want to address 3 annoying things I have seen in reviews. 1) First review I saw by Angry Joe on YouTube said that it was predictable from the first scene what would happen by the end. This is so untrue. I expected it to have some Shutter Island, Fight Club, split personality twist but that never happens. Instead you get more and more reeled into the character and all the mystery of what is happening at this facility. 2) Some critic on RT said it was a lot of unpleasantness. WHAT THE F**K did you expect? A happy go lucky movie with pleasant fun things in it? NO! Obviously the whole thing is about a guy losing his mind, so that is just in general an unpleasant theme, you moron. 3) Saw a critic saying it was over-produced. Apart from maybe one scene I can think of towards the end, it was not over produced. It was WELL produced which is very different. When I think of an over-produced movie, I think of almost every superhero movie recently that is plagued by bad writing and an overload of CG. This was nothing of the sort. Nearly every CG moment (besides the stupid face of a deer that gets hit by the car) looked stunningly realistic and was used at a moment where it was necessary to the artistic integrity of the film. This film is ART!

Okay, so now that I've addressed the idiots out there, let me give you my outlook on this film. I am a huge fan of psychologic thrillers and SOME horror that is extremely outside of the box. I don't like typical slashers or ghost stories and recently have really been getting tired of the paranormal "someone's possessed by a demon" bulls**t that has been coming out way too often. This movie was a complete fresh breathe of air.

A Cure for Wellness is nothing like Shutter Island in it's execution or style, but the main character does look like a little brother of Di Caprio and the films do share the 'crazy house' setting. This movie is brutal at certain points and hard to watch in terms of intensity, which is something I like.

I suppose one thing that could upset people about this movie is that some things are not completely cleared up by the end of the movie, which leaves a lot to the imagination of the viewer. After seeing it once, I definitely feel this movie has a rewatchable factor because it seems you could dig up more, looking back through it for clues. I will certainly be buying this one when it's out on video.

The Woman
(2011)

Loved it, want to see more like it
It had such great energy throughout. I loved when she first bit him and then he just shoots her in the side of the head. It is ruthless, disgusting, and most of all well made. Check it out if you are a fan of Tarantino, Eli Roth or any of the Saw like movies that have been making a big stand in the horror section.

One of the most disappointing things about this movie and many like it with intense torturing and messing up of people, there ends up with just about no one alive. It is hard to not get attached to even the sickest of characters in such a well developed and well thought out plot as this one. It is completely original and is worthy of some kind of horror award in my opinion. And I have seen quite a few.

Hostel: Part III
(2011)

Huge fan...now of all 3!
I must admit, when I saw the first two movies (and especially the first) I was both shocked and amazed at just how interestingly gory a movie could be. Having not known what the movie was about the first time I saw it in theaters I remember clearly the experience of people leaving with disgusted faces as soon as the movie took it's dark and gruesome turn.

I will also admit that I had a lot of doubts when I heard there would be a third installment to the Hostel series that WASN'T directed by Eli Roth. There's a new writer and a new director and I suspect when they say based on characters from Eli Roth that points to very minimal involvement from the original creator of the series. However, I did some IMDb research and discovered that the director actually is close with Quentin Tarantino and helped him get his start in the film business.

But back to Hostel part 3. I loved the other 2 movies and they really can't be compared because they are both stand alone modern horror classics. But the thirds movie was actually just as action packed and if anything a great homage to the series with an attempt to up the anti a little by having multiple viewers in the torturing audience. I won't spoil anything because if you like the series you will by very surprised by constant twists and turns and scary, suspenseful scenes full of interesting (and very sexy characters.)

Sucker Punch
(2011)

One of the worst possible movies I ever expected to be good!
From the makers of good movies like Watchmen and 300 comes the tragic loss of artistic vision packaged up and handed to the public as Sucker Punch. I usually never review movies that I absolutely can't stand simply for the fact that I don't want to waste ANY more time on the piece of crud.

But this movie, I come back to, seeing all these idiots rave about what an amazing action packed movie this is, and just remember how hard I laughed as my girlfriend and I watched this movie. It has nothing in it either true OR enjoyable for both male and female audience...at least of an intelligent mental capacity. Stunningly horrible plot and with the mix it being a terrible cast of bad actors and just plain dumb writing the movie flopped.

I would recommend you never even step foot near this title to save yourself some time, money and brain cells.

Hostel: Part II
(2007)

Unpredictable, entertaining and completely original.
I remember 6 months ago, seeing the brief 20 second trailer for this sequel. My friends were excited, but we were really wondering how could a sequel be good, if it would just be the same thing as the first. I was very surprised at the directions the movie went. there was a lot of twists and turns and it kept me interested the entire time. the suspense was tremendous and the violence was a little exaggerated but still had a real sense to it. i believe that eli roth grew as a director before making this. there was a lot more of a real feeling to the dialogue and the delivery in this sequel. the movie focused in equally on the perspective of the buyer and the victim instead of just the victim. if you are looking for this years best horror sequel, its right here.

Grindhouse
(2007)

Rodriguez takes gold.
I just got back from a midnight screening of this movie. I have never been more disappointed in Tarantino. He has the crowd by the balls just because he is Tarantino and now he is using his fame to f-ck around and make this half thought out undeveloped load called Death Proof. What a waste of time, that second movie. The entire storyline sucked, the actors were very annoying and worst of all the dialogue went on for so long people started leaving the theater. I stayed and watched the entire drawn out second movie. Wow, the violence in the second one even sucked. He has pulled off the long talking scenes in other movies, but that was in movies that had actual plots like Pulp Fiction!!! This sucked! The story is about a guy who drives a car around and kills people. This wouldn't be that bad, but the trouble is it takes 50 plus minutes to get to the killing, while in the meantime we are watching the most ridiculous things. It's not art, like his last movies.

Rodriguez however, made the hilarious Planet Terror, which blew me away! It was funny and personally I think he should be the headliner of the show because the gore and great humor impressed the crowd a lot more than the nonsense in the second movie.
