House of 1000 Corpses
(2003)

Always a favorite
This was Rob Zombies first movie, and it shows in a lot of ways. I know he's gone back after the fact and said many things on it and it has many flaws but being the first one it was excellent for what it was. You definitely can see his music video directing self come through often with the grainy cut ins throughout the movie but I think they really add to the feel of the whole thing when they aren't also adding to the characters. The characters themselves in this movie on its own are fun. Compared to the movies later to come in the series they are definitely cartoonish and not as fleshed out but there's nothing wrong with them, they just would have to grow and change if the movie turned into multiple and they do just that in later films. But contained in this one alone you find yourself cheering on the bad guys. Especially compared to how just boring or generic or awful the 'good guys,' are. The setting is fun and dark and there's always something to look at. The plot, eeeeh. It gets a little far fetched at the end but taking it for what it is it's a fun ride the entire time. Gore is there, shock is there but this is by no means high up on either list.

The Devil's Rejects
(2005)

A fantastic very different sequel
First of all the fact that so many of the bad reviews just HATE, not dislike but HATE this movie and Rob Zombie is hilarious.

It is a gore type of movie but with movies such as Human Centipede, Hostel, etc out in the main stream (and that's not including those not so main stream) i don't think it's super high on the gore list. Likewise it is horror, horror is partly suppose to make you uncomfortable. There are several uncomfortable scenes (I'm looking at you Otis in the hotel) but I just see them as doing the job they were meant to do, make the viewer squirm a bit. Now the gore and the shock style scenes may not be everyone's cup of tea and I get that.

But overall the movie was done very well. There are issues and plot holes sure but it doesn't take away from the story. The plot overall is simple enough. The characters are the same we fell in love with in the first but more fleshed out and real. Absolutely love the direction they went in.

It's the same family and same story yet a completely different direction.

3 from Hell
(2019)

I enjoyed it just not as much
I love the Firefly clan. I love Rob Zombie. I really enjoy his work. So I may be going into this a bit blinded. I did not enjoy this movie as much as the previous two in the trio but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it at all. It doesn't hold the same magic as the first one and the characters don't have the same pull they do in the second one. Most of the movie I felt was too rushed while other parts dragged on a bit much. It was like parts I wanted to see more of or that needed to be explained more were run through while others that sometimes felt like they weren't needed at all were super drawn out. The characters are the same mostly and I still love all of them however they didn't have as much... depth as they have in the past while still having more in new ways than we have seen. It's hard to explain unless you've seen all three movies. The plot was good, a few big 'why,' holes that were either not really explained or poorly explained but as a whole the movie was good.

It is what it is
I very much enjoy Rob Zombie and his films. The Firefly family is one of my favorite horror genre 'villains.' I went into this knowing this wasn't part of that series but expecting much of the time. And it both delivered and did not. On one side the characters themselves I absolutely loved. A lot of them are very reminiscent of his other work and the characters were fantastic. On the other side you just don't find out much about them at all. And in this movie, the way it's set up I suppose it's silly to expect you're going to see anyone stay around long enough to get much about them but you still want to know more. As for the plot it's good. I think my enjoyment of this movie was more character based which unfortunately was limited because they can't all stay alive to see more of them.

School Spirits
(2023)

Lovely, fingers crossed for season two
First something I noticed in a pervious review. The ghosts can interact with things in the living world but the thing in the living world isn't affected. They explained it in the very beginning so think of it as the ghost makes a ghost copy of the item. Hence why they can steal donuts from the teachers lounge but no living person notices. The living world donuts were not affected by the ghost but there is a 'copy' of the donuts now in the ghost world. Now if you think this concept is dumb or not is completely on you to decide. Likewise they explained slightly why Maddie can speak to one living person. Overall the show is really good, they did a great job I think of making it seem like a number of people could have been the 'bad guy.' The overall idea I suppose has been seen before but I can't recall another time seeing this general plot idea that I enjoyed as much as this show. Super hoping they green light season two.

Ghosts
(2021)

Much like the BBC original
This show is both good and not as good but never bad. If you watch it on its own it's cute and funny, the idea behind the entire show is great and each episode is cute. The characters are all fun and it's awesome getting pieces of everyone's history. Would recommend. However if you have seen the original that this is based on it's just a little less good. Some of the characters are completely new but a lot are copies from the BBC version. Not necessarily a bad thing but why copy some and not others? The new characters aside this creates an issue of you start comparing the American versions to their British counterparts.

Ghosts
(2019)

Fun light show
Super fun show to actually watch the first time and then have on in the background the next few times you rewatch. The overall plot is cute, the setting is nice to look at, the situations they get into each episode are funny and easy to follow along. For the most part the characters are all fun, funny, loveable, etc. Would absolutely recommend the show. The only real negative opinion I have on the entire thing is that some of the characters can be a bit much sometimes and that is part of their charm sure, but there is one in particular that I could not stand from the beginning and each episode they are a more core character in is a bit meh to me because they have so much screen time. I'm sure most people adore them but they annoyed me completely and in a show with such a large main cast most of the people on screen are that cast so you get a lot of everyone.

The Last of Us: Long, Long Time
(2023)
Episode 3, Season 1

Beautiful
Taking a game and turning it into a show they are going to go off script, and being more character based is an obvious way to do that. Although the episode focused on side characters who we will never see again it was a nice step away for just that reason. It fleshed out the world more, it fleshed out Joel through a glimpse of another relationship he had going on, and personally I love when we get to know side characters more. It was an interesting take on survival in a post apocalyptic world.

Aside from that though on it's own the episode was absolutely beautiful. Knew it was going to end in tears from the start but damn was it worth the ride.

Cruella
(2021)

Absolutely fantastic
Let me start with I have no idea how they are going to turn this Cruella, Jasper, Artie, and Horace into puppy killers. That's going to get confusing.

However other I loved everything about this movie. The music choice was fantastic, the costumes were gorgeous, the setting and just feel were wonderful. What they did with the dogs was awesome, from the first time you see them all the way through the mid credit scene. The characters were absolutely fantastic, every single one of them. Overall easily my favorite live action Disney movie. Beautifully done.

Mom and Dad
(2017)

Just dont think about it too much
It was a good idea. The action was good. The laughs were good. The plot was there. It could have been something amazing.

But the kids just kept not running out of the house, why? Like escape you little fools. Cage gets blown up and appears just fine with like mild burns. Infact Cage period was my least favorite part. He overdid his character the entire movie including the flash backs. All the parents were highly unstable beforehand but he was over the top. People keep getting injured to the point they should be down for the count then up they get anyway. The biggest issue was the complete lack of ending. They're just going to stay in the basement with their tied up murderous parents? Theres no ending. It's not even a puzzle theres just nothing.

I mean watch it but dont think about it much and be prepared to have no questions answered and have no idea what happened.

Trolls World Tour
(2020)

Great movie well worth the wait
The music is catchy, the visuals are awesome, the characters are fun, theres a plot. The only downside is it's a bit rushed. Also why is alternative music always the bad guy. 🙄

Onward
(2020)

For brothers what Frozen was for sisters
Cute movie. Cliche and cutesy but it works. The plot was simple but there and the characters were cute. It all came together in the end as a real feel good brotherly love support movie much like Frozen was for girls and sisters. It was definitely needed and hopefully boys will actually get to enjoy it considering everyone is stuck inside right now so the movie didnt get a proper release.

However it was extremely disappointing that the dad didn't end up coming back.

Five Feet Apart
(2019)

Decent movie
Closer to real life than most while still maintaining a solid plot line. The details are there and the acting is there. The soundtrack is amazing.

All together it's a great movie that will bring you close to tears.

The only fault is it's pretty cliche in that you know where it's going from the beginning as far as each character goes.

And Barb is really irritating.

The end will piss you off if you want a happy ending.

Ready or Not
(2019)

Fun but issues
It was super cheesy and there were a lot of questions unanswered. My main issue was that her hand had a giant hole in it but she wasnt bleeding out, could still grab things with it, etc. If your hand is that destroyed it would be useless.

But if you overlook all of that it was a good 'movie night' movie.

Cribs
(2000)

Still love rewatching
It's interesting and fun. Theres not much more to it than that. I don't see why people rate it so low and I find it hilarious when people whine that celebrities are flaunting wealth others will never have.

There is something neat about seeing inside your favorite peoples houses.

The 10th Kingdom
(2000)

Always a favorite
Favorite when I was 9 and I watched it on TV for the first time and a favorite now 20ish years later watching it on my phone for the 100th time.

Wolf was my first bad boy crush haha.

Friend Request
(2016)

Its not terrible but meh
I mean it's not terrible and it's got good points however the whole 'be my friend or I kill you' thing is eh.

The Family Stone
(2005)

Just no
I honestly dont see why or how people like this movie or could watch it more than once. Its about horrible people being horrible to eachother. Everyone should have just gone their separate ways and left it at that. Not a single character was any good.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
(2010)

Love the idea and setting
The setting is beautiful and the house just makes you want to explore.

The plot is a bit slow in parts and rushed in others but the idea behind it is fantastic. Creepy and not often done.

The original is worth watching but this remake is just as good.

Assimilate
(2019)

As far as remakes go
This wasn't bad as far as remakes go because this was certainly an updated version of body snatchers. The acting was okay, the setting was okay. The plot was a bit rushed.

Daybreak
(2019)

Oh watch this please
Great setting, fun characters, enough plot. Super cheese and dumb and just great. Dont take it too seriously and you'll love it.

Slaughterhouse Rulez
(2018)

Pretty worth it
It's funny and interesting. The characters while lacking a bit are intriguing.

The plot is a bit rushed though and doesn't set anything up much.

93 Days
(2016)

It's good if you enjoy the subject
If this is a subject you like then it's a decent movie.

But it is extremely subdued and slow. The movie makes it worse and often is as loud as the speaking.

The Good Dinosaur
(2015)

Worth it but not amazing
It was cute, it was touching, it had funny parts. The plot was pretty simple and straight forward.

However there wasnt a whole lot to it. And most of all it set it up for a big happy ending. Like you expect to see everyone you met, or at least the humans, to move in next door. But the ending that actually happens is a big let down. I know theres a sequel and perhaps they made this one expecting a sequel but standing on it's own it's good but not great.

The Frighteners
(1996)

Could use a redo
It was cute. It was funny. Would be interesting to see it redone.

It was a bit over the top with the acting and the ghosts personalities. The whole ghost humping a dead body was gross.

Eh.
