Guns Akimbo
(2019)

Misunderstood, brilliant, high on cocaine movie
I really don't get the low ratings. Yes, it's imperfect. Yes, you need to be in the right mood, but I think the movie was well put together and the movie maker have succeeded in making something unique.

After Swiss Army Man, I think Radcliffe has a knack for playing in weird misunderstood movies. I could definitely see that comic come out if it doesn't exist and that would be something I would read, similarly to webtoon Neon Mask.

If you want a rush of adrenaline, that's definitely a movie for you. However, if you want a calm evening... Run away because that is not what you'll get with guys movie.

Barbie
(2023)

What did I just watch?
I feel... Confused? I guess?

The old Barbies were part of my generation. I was skeptical but curious about the hype around that movie. Sooooo much advertisement everywhere that it made me nauseous.

The movie starts and I'm like... This is gonna be long... And then it gets even longer and more and more political!

I get it... They wanted to make a political movie about what women could be if we took down the patriarchy and the men can just be who they want to be with feelings and all.

The execution is colorful and you feel the sarcasm in every choice the movie maker made.

I would have given it a lower score but I gotta admire the research and execution.

It seems I must have missed a lot of jokes because some people were laughing when I was not.

What's up with having so many cast members of Sex Education?

Also?! Was that Gosling singing?! He gotta sing more! However, why him as Ken? Don't get me wrong, I love the guy but he didn't really fit as sand blond Ken.

Falso amor
(2023)

They found the worse couples
I really don't get how human beings can act like this. They literally mentioned they had intentions to get married or whatever before the show started and they act like adolescents the first chance they get.

Also, how painful it must be to see those fake footages. You must start to doubt everything.

And what happen if they are right that their partner is cheating on them?! They get the money, go back to their lives like nothing happened?

They must not love their partners that much to act like this... But I can only guess how one must feel being separated from their partner and facing singles in heat. I don't know...

The Last of Us: Long, Long Time
(2023)
Episode 3, Season 1

Reminds us to keep living, even in the apocalypse
Don't pay attention to the homophobic outrage going on. This episode is beautifully and intelligently written. It connects the past and the present, and shows that not all is lost.

You might find in the apocalypse what you've been looking for your whole life.

Maybe the homosexual depictions are unnecessarily long and suggestives, however this piece of romance reminds us to keep hoping and enjoy the little things.

Bill couldn't come out in his past life. He hid his true identity and kindness. But an act of faith makes him find love against all odds.

I have watched many apocalyptic series and movies, and it's maybe the first time that such hopeful message is introduced, and introduced with such brio.

Made in Mexico
(2018)

Trash
This show is trash like the people who play in it. They live a lie and are completely delusional.

A terrible singer who wants to become the next super star? People tell her she cannot sing and will need to take a ton of lesson. Still she dares to bother producers with a terrible song and terrible voice. They tell her she is going to be big, well look at her spotify: 300 listeners when her target audience (Mexican people) counts for millions and millions of people.

Then you have this lying delusional woman who wants to bring world peace by creating a clothing line that combines all religions?... 😂 I'm not religious but I listened in history class. Most wars started out of religious conflicts. Well, it wasn't even funny to see her getting crushed by representatives of all religions. Pathetic.

And then this guy who at 32yo doesn't even have an once of independence. Yeahhh he gets his first apartment, but bought by mommy and all furnitures bought by the family... A joke of a person.

And this guy who thinks that giving money to help causes makes him a good person in comparison to going out there and dirtying his heads to make the world a better place...

And it goes on and on.

I want to say they live in a fantasy world... But really... They make real life look like the fantasy world! I live independently, have a job, some real friends I can count on, a wife, and I'm self-made.

The Gray Man
(2022)

Enjoyable
No Jason Bourne or no John Wick but an enjoyable movie anyway. Gosling sticks to his personality seen in Drive as a dark, silent, and calculated agent. Chris Evans has never been among my favorite actors, if I would even call him an actor, and it was a pleasure to watch him getting bashed on screen. If that's one of your kinks too, you'll enjoy this movie.

All in all, I'm expecting a sequel and will gladly enjoy it. Please, make more movies with Gosling as a cold person. As much as I've enjoyed him romance movies, his acting works best as emotionless cold-blooded killer, with eventually a few smiles here and there.

Fantastic Beasts: A Natural History
(2022)

Interesting but slow
I had high expectations when I saw Fry was narrating this documentary.

However, I feel he is more talking than giving facts and explanations about the creatures he is presenting. It's lacking dynamism to make it exciting and interesting. The facts are interesting but I see myself struggling through the first 20 min when I'm a vile and insatiable devourer of documentaries.

I would have expected more considering the investments put into the realization, the locations they are visiting and so on.

I guess no one has managed to match the quality of Sir David Attenborough's narrating and documentaries. At least not yet.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
(2022)

I really don't know how to rate this one
One hand, the landscapes are beautiful, the scenes looks fantastic!

On the other hand, the plot runs slowly with little action for the most part of the show, jumping from characters to characters.

The first six episodes were almost a torture to watch with some parts and characters not really adding much to the whole story and shots running slow. Episode 6 through 7 got a bit more action. And episode 8 is the big reveal, without leaving me much to expect or hope for.

I mean: yeah we have a villain that we were expecting somehow, and alliances are being forged but... I don't feel this "Wooooow" that would hook me for another few seasons.

Quanzhi Gaoshou
(2019)

An amazing novel
It made me want to read the original novel.

The actors have done a terrific job at portraying the personalities of their characters.

I think I felt all along like a fan of those eSport teams, cheering for them very loudly.

The Proposal
(2009)

Classic recipe but it works
I gotta admit... I'm a sucker for that kind of movies.

The wit of Reynolds really shines in this movie that falls a bit out of the scope of this typical movies.

Bullock has often portrayed tough women and she was the perfect match for Reynolds.

We enjoyed watching it.

Semi-Pro
(2008)

Classic Ferrell
Classic Dumb humour from Ferrell.

The humour is heavy, the plot is light, the cast is muh, but that's what makes its magic. If you just want to relax with something light, this could be something for you.

Give it a try but lower your expectations first.

Monster Hunter
(2020)

Not the best, not the worst
As a fan of the franchise, I was excited to see a Monster Hunter movie!

Though the story is a bit flat and did not need this gap between the two worlds, the CGI is beautiful and portray the bestiary of Monster Hunter with the iconic Rathalos.

I don't understand why Jovovich needs to bash the hunter that helps her for half of the movie, nor why she was suggesting to take down a diablos with her weapons when clearly.... It didn't work.

Inventing Anna
(2022)

It seems a lot of people missed the point
At each episode, the intro tells us that the "story is real, apart from the part that are made up".

This truly happened but Anna made up this rich character that everybody she met believed in. Her life "is made up".

I think the actress is doing a terrific job at portraying Anna Sorokin, and at going from the lovable Anna at the start of the show, to the despicable Anna at end.

The Shrink Next Door
(2021)

Hum...hum...hum
Great story, great acting. But I'm feeling uneasy about this show. The more I watch, the harder it gets to watch.

I just want to punch Dr. Ike in the face!

A Nightmare on Elm Street
(1984)

That's a scary movie
You don't need the gore we get this days. You feel scared because they build up tension through the music and the close-up scenes. Though not a fan of scary movies, I'm gonna give a try to the next movies.

Bliss
(2021)

Confusing and confused
Slow to start, potentially an interesting story, but many plot holes.

I still can't tell if this was about drug addiction, or a Sci-Fi movie with a Matrix simulation plot. 😂 Are we real? Are you real?

Did Isabel go back to the real world and couldn't come back for him?

Sometimes the information is subtle and you have to remember things from the beginning of the movie to understand the end.

The Suicide Squad
(2021)

Slow and unfunny
Could have been good but it's exploiting the stream of superheroes and doesn't give anything new. Deadpool feels fresh and funny. Guardians of the galaxy has its own signature move.

This... recycles a lot and serves you an old soup.

Don't Look Up
(2021)

What is happening with climate change
A sarcastic comedy showing what is happening with our government and climate change.

We deny that there is a problem when there is decades of data.

We delay actions until solutions are no longer part of the equation.

We let our greed control us, and make the most illogical decisions.

Look up people! We have the data, alternatives exist, it is not too late.

And Just Like That...
(2021)

Grow up Carrie
In 23 years and 2 episodes, Carries proves again that she is selfish and knows nothing about herself and people.

That sums it all: "What am I gonna do."

The Beverly Hillbillies
(1993)

The plot suits how it was recorded
Not the best movie but considering we are talking about hillbillies, the bad script and execution suits the plot and that family. If you need a soft movie with barely any depth to pass time, this is a movie for you.

Encanto
(2021)

A good story but...
The story is nice and full of magic, but maybe falls short compared to Coco. Coco and other movies representing cultures from other countries were deeply immerged into that culture, but here, it is hard to believe that such family exists.

In Luca, the story was fantasy, but used a lot of references from Italy...etc.

Sex and the City
(1998)

The life of mentally unstable Carrie
I've heard about this show so many times. Decided to finally give it a try.

At first, I thought the show aged badly... But the more you dive into the story, the more you realize the ones having issues are not men, nor women, but Carrie herself.

Carrie is a cringy, needy, jealous, almost desperate, woman in her 30s who will blame all her problems on men.

Sure, there are some freaks, and socially immature men, but the biggest freak here is Carrie. She imagines her love story in her head about Mr Big when the red flags are there. She will manipulate men to shape them into what she wants. It's sad to watch.

You want a lasting relationship? Start dealing with your own personal issues. Partners are not here to complete you.

I'm also seriously concerned about her lungs. At the pace she is smoking, she should have died in her late 30s. 😂

Jiok
(2021)

Not as good as the comics but worth a try
Hellbound was re-released on the comics platform Webtoon as the show aired on Netflix. I didn't know neither the comic nor the show, and it didn't seem like what I'd usually read on the platform.

I gave the show a try, and it made me curious about the comic.

The comic is way darker than the show so far, but the show is not as bad as what some reviews suggest. Yes, the execution might seem a bit flat and slow at times, but it also depends whether you watch the show in Korean with subtitles, or dubbed. The Korean version is much better. They also have many characters to introduce in just a few episodes, so the storyline might lack speed in the first two episodes.

The story is about us, humans, paying for our sins, and mystical creatures descending on Earth to make us atone for our sins. It criticizes the inefficiency of our judicial systems, and whether humans can truly just other humans for their crimes and sins. It makes me wonder whether all sins should be judged the same: to be sentenced to Hell, as the story may suggest.

Watch out for the acting of who plays Jeong Jin-soo, that I find terrifying. 😱 He seems to be able to show such a twisted mind. Who is the real evil?

One giant miss: the creatures (grim reapers?) seem to have a much more twisted and sadistic personality in the comic.

Superstore
(2015)

On a dark slope
Season 1 was great and funny, surfing on the hype of The Office (big fan here).

Season 2... went okay. But now that we reached season 3, the humour has completely ran dry.

Or dark? I usually like dark humour, but somehow, I can't relate.

Raya and the Last Dragon
(2021)

Good but blockbuster feeling
A blockbuster like Disney!

I get a feeling of Kung Fu panda, beautiful colors and energy from How to train your dragon. I get the feeling the cats from Fangs were inspired by the hyenas in the lion king.

We get some conflicts between nations like Avatar the last airbender.

Some friendship and chivalry. Some darkness and light. Some cute characters and animals.

The humour was on point.

It's a good mixture from many inspirations.

It's good but I got one station... Where did the Druun come from if all was harmony? Aren't they supposed to appear if the harmony is disrupted? Must have missed that part.
