Downton Abbey
(2019)

Very Satisfying
I loved the series and I love this film. Without being too crass, it must have cost a King's ransom to produce, it is so well done, but very much worth it.

All the characters that we loved before (those still left at the end of the series, anyway) return in the movie. We learn a little more about some, but mostly we just have the opportunity to live with them again for a couple of hours.

My review title is "Very Satisfying", which it is, but like all really top-notch things, it makes you want more of the same. In short, if you enjoyed the series, you will enjoy this movie - and you will be pleased to know that there will be a sequel released on December 22, 2021.

The Borgia Stick
(1967)

ONE OF THE GREATS
I absolutely LOVE this movie, and can't for the life of me figure out why it hasn't been released on dvd. Far worse movies are out there to buy, but there are a number of made for tv movies that are better than most of the schlock being made and sold that are being left on the shelf, not even shown on tv anymore. Enough reviews have addressed plot, etc, so I won't go there - I'll just say that if you get a chance to watch The Borgia Stick, WATCH IT and if you find it for sale, buy it -- and be sure to let me know, 'cause I'll buy it in a snap if ever available!

The Bad Seed
(1956)

MUST SEE
This is a film that everyone should watch, at least once. Other reviewers have given thorough summaries of the movie, so I'll just say that is chilling, haunting and very well done...and you should watch it. Not often shown on TV (it is, after all, over 60 years old and in black and white); so I bought it on DVD first chance I got. You should too.

Love Among the Ruins
(1975)

EXCELLENT MOVIE
As other reviewers have said, the chemistry between Lawrence Olivier and Katherine Hepburn is immediately apparent, so much so that you can easily see their younger selves amongst the "ruins" of their present bodies. Direction, excellent. Script/plot, excellent. Cinematography, excellent. Musical score, excellent. Get the idea? REALLY worth seeing; had it had a theatrical release (which it should have), it would have won Oscars across the board...and would have been released on DVD (which it should have been. Perhaps if enough people search for it on the right sites, it will be.

Savannah Smiles
(1982)

WARM AND FUNNY FAMILY FILM
I love this movie, always have, and watch it whenever I can. I've read many of the reviews here and agree that it is a terrific movie that can be watched by the entire family without any reservations. I do, however, take exception to the reviewer who says the ending seems tacked on; the ending, though bitter-sweet, is redeemed by that last scene - but if you miss or forget the opening scene, I guess it could feel "tacked on". I can't tell you how many times I've seen Savanna Smiles, but it never fails to make me smile - and cry. I am a big Michael Parks fan, and he's terrific in his role as sheriff. In fact, the whole cast is great. The writing, direction and cinematography are all top-notch as well. This movie has been out in DVD for several years now, but may be hard to find. Find it; it's definitely worth it.

The Second Hundred Years
(1967)

Fun and Funny
I was a bit older than some of the other reviewers here when this show aired, but I really enjoyed watching it too. I fell about half way in love with Monte Markham and still don't understand why he never became a bigger star; he's a very good actor (maybe that's why - he's so good, it doesn't seem like he's acting!?). I too think of this show whenever I see either star elsewhere, and would love to see the show released on DVD; perhaps a compilation is shows that only lasted one season despite being very watchable. Firefly (a really all-around excellent show) didn't even last a full season but has been released on DVD. In any event, if you get a chance to watch The Second Hundred Years, do so; it's fun and funny, and family friendly.

Murphy's Romance
(1985)

Heartwarming and Fun
This is one of my favorite movies; it is beautifully done on all levels. Not too heavy on the romance and the humor is adult without being R rated. I can't really add anything to what other reviewers have said, but I do take issue with the person who said Sally Field looked like she was cracking up in the sneezing scene...Not at all so. I didn't see anyone else mention something that gives a funny touch of reality - it's easy to miss - in that same (sneezing) scene, just as she's passing Bobby Jack and sneezing (yes, obviously a tactic to discourage his advances), she lets out a little fart. I have seen this movie many times and never tire of it - give it a try, you won't regret it.

House M.D.: Whatever It Takes
(2007)
Episode 6, Season 4

Loved the Episode
I disagree with the previous comments; I thought this episode was one of the best. It may lack a lot of action, but this is not an action series. I laughed out load several times and anxiously awaited the next episode to see how things turned out in some of the sub plots. Admittedly, I found the CIA story more engaging than the race car driver story, but mainly because Hugh Laurie figured more prominently in that one and I LOVE Hugh Laurie! As to the other doctors on the show having "cameos" in this episode - not everyone gets full air play every episode in virtually any show - that's just the way things are - but they all get their turn in the limelight eventually and it all comes out pretty evenly in the end, just maybe not this particular episode. I thought the writers dd their usual excellent job on this episode - as did the cast and crew.
