The Super Mario Bros. Movie
(2023)

Surprised
The praise for this movie seemed like mostly overhype from YouTubers and reviewers who get extra perks for promoting movies positively. However, I gave this a chance feeling like I was about to watch some 3D kids movie with Mario characters. Not the case. The writers clearly loved the game and the casting was also wonderful, especially Jack Black as Browser. The song Peaches was written by a few people, but it's obviously that he added a few wild and hilarious lines. Really loved this movie and recommend it for both adults and kids alike. My only gripe is that while the first hour was perfect and nostalgic friendly, the last half hour of the movie wasn't memorable or really anything to worth praise. It went from an awesome epic movie to seeming as if everyone wanted to rush and finish the film. It didn't have to be longer, necessarily, but something about the last half hour was just kind of meh. The end was satisfying. That said, definitely recommend Super Mario Bros!

Mafia Insyaf
(2010)

An okay action movie
Noticed that there were no reviews for this movie. Probably because it's very difficult to find and is low-budget. For years, I saw one scene from this film where a beautiful girl in a black dress destroys two guards at a door. Never found out what it was from. Finally, someone on YouTube wrote the title in the comments section of the clip mentioned. Then, I looked it up on YouTube by "Mafia Insyaf 2010." Luckily, someone posted the whole movie there with English subtitles. In short, this is a low-budget Indonesian film with two main women leading the movie, Indah Kalalo and Atiqah Hasiholan. One woman is good, and the other is bad. The bad one leads a mafia as a sexy and dangerous boss. The good one is some kind of cop or something, who falls in love with a male martial artist involved with a mafia after he saves her life. The two protagonists take on the mafia, led by the female boss. If that sounds like your type of movie, go check it out. Just keep in mind that it's a low-budget film.

Against the Clock
(2019)

Negative reviewers are jealous
This is a low budget b-movie, so you shouldn't expect that much if you're planning on watching this movie. Something similar I noticed about the negative reviews was that the reviewers didn't actually discuss the movie. They're cracking jokes about the visual ascetics. Plot: A CIA agent goes into a coma, and his wife is the only thing stopping his employers from pulling the plug. Meanwhile, you get to see into the mind of the person in a coma. It's not hard to follow. Sometimes, you'll see into the husband's head, which is crazy because it's like seeing someone dream. Then, you have the wife's moments where she's either arguing or physically fighting others to keep her husband alive. This is a great story of loyalty and love. There were a few slow points in the middle, but the movie was well done for such a low budget.

Stalked
(2019)

If you like Saw, but b-movie style, it's good
This was similar to Saw in the sense that people are kidnapped and hunted down while being told they have to play a game for the stalker. This killer wears a suit that makes them invisible. His victims are always blonde women. The recent one, Sam, played by Rebecca Rogers, has a military background and a sick baby at home. So, she's got skills to defend herself and a will to live, as her baby is in danger without anyone watching her. Tess figures the invisible figure with great confidence. The actress was superb. There were a few problems with the script. 1) It's utterly insane that Tess would leave her baby home alone without supervision, even for a few minutes. Her excuse is to go and get the kid medicine because she has a fever above 100 degrees. What thinking individual would ever leave a baby without supervision? On her way to get the medicine, she is then kidnapped by the invisible stalker. That was a really weak plot device. 2) The baby's age seems to change. One second, Sam says the baby is 8 months old, then toward the end, she's on the phone and says her baby is 5 months old. How do you edit a script, then movie, and not catch that kind of mistake? Very sloppy. Someone should've noticed. That stuff aside, this movie was enjoyable. If you don't like movies that star female action heroes, then this isn't right for you. Otherwise, give it a watch.

Never Let Go
(2015)

Anything below a 7 is a lie
This was non-stop action. Best mom in the world. Fight scenes are great. Scenery is interesting. The topic of a child suddenly kidnapped is honest. The writer knew about this and did their research. As it stars a female action hero it's going to get trashed by any man who is overweight and can't get a girlfriend. So consider all of their low ratings by people just like that and ignore that. It's a really enjoyable, action film. From start to finish, I was entertained, and I didn't really have to think about what was going on. I simply enjoyed it. Albeit, The plot was a bit far-fetched, the delivery was amazing.

Uncut Gems
(2019)

Make a new version without that horrible score
In 40 years, I've watched movies without ever being bothered by the score of a movie, until this one. It is so distracting and annoying that it's hard to pay attention to the plot, which is okay, but hugely overrated. There were complaints that most of the movie is people yelling at each other about some gem and basketball. Actors had to yell to be heard over the annoying and awful score. Watching this was like being yelled at for an hour and a half while listening to the worst score ever made in movie history. Seriously, Daniel Lopatin, who did the music for this movie, should be ashamed of himself. He needs to stop making music and do anything else. It was like listening to a five-year-old bang random sounds through the entirety of the film. I would sue this person for assault, if noise pollution through a movie score were a thing. If you can stand the worst and most distracting movie score in history, you might like this movie. But, I think it really killed the film.

Black Mirror: Loch Henry
(2023)
Episode 2, Season 6

Written by an AI
I watched this in disbelief that A) Anyone in their right mind would rate this, supposedly a Black Mirror episode, as anything higher than 1, and B) that a human being wrote it. Then, I thought about Joan is Awful from the season. It's about how AI can now write programs, and the repercussions of people letting it happen. Humans will ignore the message and keep doing it. Regrading the episode, if you carefully watch this and think about the plot points (a couple visits the guy's mom in a small town, and they are doing a documentary about eggs--SERIOUSLY?, which after the man gleefully tells a story about a murderer in the town, the murderer becomes the theme of the documentary, and the man's father subsequently died during the murders which rolls into this bag of something a monkey could have drawn from a hat), then read any story generated by an AI, you'll notice the similarities between this story's plot and something an AI created. Watching this episode and not realizing what's going on, you'll probably wonder if this was actually a Black Mirror episode (if you've seen any other episode). The issue was that I wanted to watch a Black Mirror episode, and not a random story with several weak plots spun together. This episode did not provide what Black Mirror has provided in all other episodes, which is thought-provoking commentary on the world. Even Metalhead, the lowest rated episode of the series, stuck to the Black Mirror formula, while this was just random events that rolled from one line to the next. The only explanation is simply that a person didn't write the episode. If a person did write this, and I'm wrong, that person should quit writing or get better at it. A 10-year-old child could have written a better episode. I implore the creators of the show to remove this one from the series or explain their rationale for producing something so bad.

The Mother
(2023)

Hypothetical question for misogynistic white men: Seriously
Every time there is a movie where a woman picks up a gun, or is represented as strong and independent, the misogynistic white men come in herds to bash the movie. They whine "unrealistic" and "fake," but you put a man in a bat suit where he could easily get shot in the face and die, but somehow always lives, and it's realistic because it's a man in that suit. No one says anything. That is exactly why the people whining about movies like this and not movies like that are misogynistic. If the complaints about this movie were about something like the horrible choice of camera work, as it's WAY too dark to see some scenes, that would be a legit complaint. However, there is nothing wrong with a movie about a strong and independent woman who can use a gun, and despite misogynistic beliefs, there are tons of women in the military who are trained and can use a gun. This movie is not that far out there and is just as believable as a rich guy putting on a bat suit and not getting shot in the face when it would be easy to shoot him there. J-Lo does a wonderful job. The daughter, Zoe, is a bit too smart and picks up on stuff a bit too well for believability, so I could see that being annoying, but it's also not a big deal and doesn't interfere with the plot. If action movies staring women trigger you, watch something else. This is the type of movie I like, and I'm sick of finding that most of the time some woman-hating white man comes along to complain about these types of movies. Get a life!

Nobody's Angel
(2022)

Keep trying Kevin Key
Kevin Key somehow managed to get this story he wrote greenlit. It had a good premise. But it's likely that the only reason this movie came to be was because the writer pushed for it and got some people to back the film with money. There's a saying in research that goes "garbage in, garbage out." It's not supposed to hurt feelings rather encourage people to only put something worthwhile out into the world. This film is unfortunately not worthwhile. Reading the synapse, you can see where it goes wrong. It starts great: Female killers parade as hookers to lull their victims. Then, where it goes wrong, the movie is actually about a police office, who is investigating the crimes. And the dialogue needed work, too. For example, the "good hooker" starts by trying to rip a john off. The john fights back, and the altercation gets the attention of some assassin hookers who help her. The dialogue in that scene was horrible. Kevin Key should research movies like this instead of simply writing them. Naked Killer with Maggie Q was similar, but done much better, for example. In fact, viewers could essentially skip this movie and watch Naked Killer, getting the same idea done in a much better way. I wanted to watch a movie about female assassins who used their sexuality to kill, and got a strange dialogue-heavy story that centered on some male-protagonist I didn't care for. 3-stars for the good premise.

Mope
(2019)

This is plain sad
This is the true story of Steve and Tom, who become best friends and attempt to get into the porn industry together. Instead, they meet a director (Eric) of BDSM fetish films, which are popular online. Eric sees potential in Tom, but, like everyone else, notices Steve has issues, including bad hygiene and immaturity. But, Tom says they're a package deal. The film further explores the friendship of Tom and Steve. The cast of actors were believable and felt genuine. It's rare to see such great acting in a low-budget film. Prior to watching, I saw a scene from this movie where a girl is dressed as a cheerleader, and she kicks the Eric, Tom, and Steve between the legs. I thought it was a great scene and wanted to see the rest of the movie after. The movie just made me sad, though. I didn't know it was true until looking it up halfway. Meanwhile, BDSM is highly ridiculed in society and looked at as a joke. People who are into it are called "perverts," and most are, but everyone is really a pervert in different ways. I was hoping for a film that explored BDSM on an educational aspect, but that part of the film was undermined by the true story of Tom and Steve and what wound up happening at the end. It's strange that in this world, people can accept sharing toilets, anal penetration, and changing genders, but if someone likes it when a woman kicks him between the legs it becomes a joke. I think everyone should be respected and treated equally. This film did not explore that. Instead, the BDSM factor is viewed as a joke and people who like it are seen as strange perverts. I agreed with Eric, who viewed BDSM as a form of art that is underappreciated. If you wanted to watch it for the BDSM factor, you're better off with the one scene with the cheerleader. Nothing else related happened in the movie, and even in the cheerleader scene had sad and depressing music playing in the background. The rest of the movie is just about Tom and Steve, and the direction makes BDSM look horrible and strange.

Maximum Conviction
(2012)

A Marine would never say "I was a Marine"
Around the end of the movie, Seagal says "I was a Marine." By actually checking with a real Marine, they might've told that hack that it's either "Listed" or "Unlisted." But this is a B movie where characters say "I'm the bad guy" and Seagal says, "I'm the good guy," so I wasn't expecting much. There's a cool scene where a cute woman kills a man. The rest of the movie has bad writing and worse acting.

Ballistic
(1995)

Been on my Watch List a while
This movie has been on my list a long time because it has a few scenes where women fight and beat up men. I finally saw it and the movie's not so bad at all. Marjean Holden plays a detective whose dad, played by Shaft (Richard Roundtree), and while she tries to figure out how to get her dad out of jail, a philanthropist and all around bad guy, Nick, is paying off cops and doing evil stuff like drug deals and underground fights. Marjean and the guy who plays her boyfriend team up to take down Nick and the crooked cops The fighters in this movie actually know what they're doing. Michael Jai White, Corinna Everson, and others are martial artists as are the other characters. This is available on Youtube if you search the name and year.

Charlie's Angels: Animated Adventures
(2003)

Silent
Aside from Charlie speaking to the angels during the first episode, it's a silent show. Each of the 6 episodes is about 2:44 minutes. You can find them on YouTube as of 2022, but who knows if they'll still be there in 10 years. If you're reading this in 2033, I hope there's finally hover cars. I've waited since childhood for those. Anyway, the show is action-packed, but also boring without anyone talking. There's just music and sound effects. This was a prequel to Full Throttle in the early 2000s, but appeared totally unrelated aside from cartoon characters who vaguely resembling Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz.

Deeper
(2014)

Great poster, but don't watch this garbage
I'm going to save you some time and tell you what happens. These two men drive around in a white van (as if anyone would get in a white van) and offer girls money for sexual favors. Sometimes, the main guy, takes advantage of the women. One woman who is mental, named Beth, and her friend who is overly quiet decide to taker matters into their own hands and trick the men into going into a forest so that they can force the men to have sex on camera. The same day, a reporter who has nothing to do with it is interviewing the men. The reporter is introduced as a really nice guy whose wife is expecting a baby. The movie seems to hint that he'll be okay. No, ten minutes left of the movie and the protagonist gets shot in the head by Beth. It wasn't as much as a twist as a crappy plot decision. The character did nothing wrong, and he was forced to have sex with the white van guy because Beth accidentally shot the other guy. Then Beth kills more innocent people for no reason. Then, the friend waits until Beth dies to torcher the white van guy. She takes off in a car with a woman who hasn't been in the movie at all. The end. It was horrible. I would've given a DEEPER description. But, this movie was so shallow that it didn't deserve my words. Garbage. At first, it was good, then when the main protagonist was shot in the face, I saw no redeeming qualities in this film. It had no point, no moral, it's just garbage.

The Hebrew Hammer
(2003)

The last movie I saw with my mom
I'd just come back home after a 3-year trip across parts of America, mostly TN. My mom was getting sick, so I moved back to TX. The first thing she, my brother, and I did was sit down to watch this movie. I'd never heard my mom laugh so hard. We all laughed. There was guns and lox, so what's not to love about this movie? I haven't watched it again since my mom died in 2006, but when I reflect on the Hebrew Hammer, I recall her laughter that day. Thanks to this movie, I'll never forget my mom's laugh.

Chao Zhou nu ba wang
(1974)

Bruce Lee's Sister
During Bruce Lee's fame many movie producers marketed their films in relation to him. This film was one of those victims in English titled "Bruce Lee's Sister. Anyone who believed that title would be let down. Chao Zhou nu ba wang is the title. Chao Zhou is a Chinese name and the rest means something like "angry overlord."

Most of the movies camped with Bruce Lee lies were ignored as cheap knockoffs of their time. It was an unfortunate mistake of Asian action movie producers, because a lot of those movies, like this one, were original and wonderful works with heart, then the movies were ignored because the name "Bruce Lee" was on the cover and everyone saw through the deceit.

This movie starred Hsiao-Chuang Kuo as a kung fu girl named Hsiu Wen. She protects the meek and elderly (Chinese people) from bad guys (Japanese people played by Chinese people) and does Hsio-Chuang kicks butt. If you love classic kung fu movies or you are like me and obsessed with women who can fight and as such you watch every movie with a woman who can throw a punch, or you just appreciate girl power or all parts mentions, this is definitely a film for you. It's a classic avenger/ heroine safes the meek story. If you search "Chiu Chow Kung Fu Eng Sub" on YouTube, you can probably find it for free there.

You don't have to do this, but I'd appreciate it if you liked this rating had it helped you somehow. Of course if you're an Aussie, this means clicking "unlike" because that means "like" in the Outback.

Catch the Heat
(1987)

See this for Tiana Alexandra-Silliphant
If you're a fan of movies of strong and beautiful women and also enjoy a taste of the 80s, this is a must.

I don't understand all of the negative reviews. This is a typical action flick of its time with nothing at all wrong with it.

Storyline: Undercover police woman has a task to figure out how drug smugglers and murders are getting away with their crimes. There's a nice romance subplot between her and her partner and their growth is endearing.

Tiana Alexandra-Silliphant plays the police woman. It's the only action movie she ever stared in and it's a shame because she's an excellent and realistic martial artist.

What I mean is that unlike other movies where it's kind of obvious the woman would lose the fight in reality, Tiana's fights are believable. And often, the big guy she's fighting overpowers her and her ways of winning the fights are believable.

Quick pros and cons: I really liked how the writers used realistic fight sequences. As a fan of 80s music, that was okay, too.

However, the guns scenes were a bit ridiculous.

Everyone had machine guns and used them like toys. This movie is not a gun movie though.

Every scene with Tiana was charming and her character was adorable and fun. As a fan of movies with women who can fight, you should watch this and you won't be let down. It's free on YouTube. Just look up "Catch the Heat 1984" there. Also, give this a thumbs up if it helped you, or down if you're an Aussie (I know that means "like" to you people).

Angel of Reckoning
(2016)

Would be better with reckoning
The first odd part of the movie was a "vet" got off a bus and no one greeted her. She walked to a forest where she found her family playing volleyball. Her family greeted her like she was just gone from a long overseas trip. She was in no way thanked for her service. Then the movie gets weirder. The vet's sister (who is also called her niece) lets her boyfriend film her while they have intercourse. The boyfriend, who is addicted to cocaine, sells the recording to a drug dealer. The younger sister (via magic) finds out that the recording was sold on the black market and takes her own life. The older "vet" sister decides to kill everyone involved with the video distribution. This was just building the plot of the story. Nothing was spoiled. It's hard to argue that a person taking their own life is someone else's fault. There's no revenge necessary because the sister killed herself. Who is this "vet" showing any reckoning to by killing people? The storyline makes no sense and before that, no one caring that this vet returned from serving. The story was odd.

There is a gun dealer who looks like a striper and in her scene she's torturing some random guy tied to a chair. Her story seemed more interesting than the actual plot.

Would I recommend this movie? If you don't mind a lack of plot and want to watch a pretty girl senselessly kill people because they are "bad" (who are arguably victims of circumstance) than have at it. Otherwise, this is probably not a movie for you.

The Serpent
(2020)

It's SO easy to entertain me
I'm very easy to please with movies. Give me a woman who can fight and kill and a storyline that you can semi-follow and I'm happy. This movie had the first part with Gia Skova Lucinda as a tough as nails heroine. The storyline was really difficult to follow and extremely scattered. Lucinda is running from the law, then she is the law, a special ops chick, then she's suddenly in jail, and a minute later protecting a little girl who vanishes suddenly (other characters vanish too) and then she's tracking down a mad bomber. Just pick one of those elements and there's a storyline somewhere. This movie just had the same actors doing a bunch of unrelated stuff that was kind of coherent. I saw it for free and cooked while it played. So, nothing was lost. It's a shame. I'm so easy to please. One of my favorite movies was Elektra! I liked Uwe Boll's Bloodrayne movies! Even I'm saying this was bad.

The Swordswoman in White
(1992)

1796?
This was about rebels in 1796 led by the swordswoman in white. Already sounds bad, but the movie itself is okay action wise. It has childish dubbing as if someone made a joke out of it. At one point military troops are banging on an old guy's door and he says, "Go away. Jeopardy's on." Didn't know the television show was that popular in the 1700s. Lines like that throughout. Yet, In Sword We Trust is actually worse dubbing wise. I'm almost certain the same company did both jobs. A lot of the voices were similar.

Yi Jian Qi Xia
(1992)

In Sword We Trust
No spoilers, just a description of the plot followed by my view on the movie. In Sword We Trust has a great storyline. The British invade and kill a bunch of Chinese, claiming the head of the Chinese general. The Chinese general's daughter asks martial arts monks to help her retrieve her dad's head so that he can have a funeral. The girl and main monk wind up having to fight the British. For some reason these characters from China are called Benjamin and Rebecca in English. I guarantee that's not what they're called in Chinese. However, lots of well choreographed action and plot twists for a movie of this caliber. I watched this on YouTube where In Sword We Trust is dubbed in English, where the problem lies. Apparently, someone thought it would be cute to change the dialogue into a drama of immature teenagers talking. One of the British soldiers actually says, "Com' on baby, I'm zest fully clean." The high monk says similar stuff. Also, the British actors were dubbed with American accents. Dubbing wise, it's a disaster film, but in many ways hilarious and watchable with friends to make fun of it. The movie in itself is good.

Magkasangga sa batas
(1993)

Another failure
All they had to do was stick to the premise of the first movie: beautiful Asian female assassin faces off against hard-boiled female cop. Not difficult. In this one, the female fighters were background characters with little screen time, while most of the movie centered around typical mocho male cop I couldn't give a rat's ass about.

The movie got weird around the middle as if the writers forgot what they were doing and winged it. Yet Lethal Panthers 1 was still much better than this sequel failure.

Jurassic Women
(1996)

Battle of the sexes . . . in space
Two astronauts (David and Cody) crash land on a planet with cave people inhabiting it. The males are primitive and violent. The females are intelligent and have trained themselves in martial arts. A mysterious woman appeared a long time ago "before David and Cody's time" and gave the women a book of knowledge. The mysterious woman's fate isn't discussed. The astronauts want to sleep with the women. First, David decides to help them save one of the girls that's kidnaped by the men. Cody has nefarious intentions. The women want to teach the men how to be civil. A war between cavemen and cavewomen will erupt with two astronauts in the middle.

You, Me and the Apocalypse
(2015)

Arrested Development Meets the Apocalypse
Complete Spoiler

The show has the ability to be Arrested Development Meets Apocalypse. Characters who are irredeemable such as a white supremacist becomes a good person. A pregnant nun. A rich grandma with a pet monkey who wants to steal her family's blood. An evil twin who hates germs. Great characters!

However, there was a huge flaw with the writing that made the show not worth a second season and I'm glad it ended. This was the same issue with the finale of the Sopranos and How I Met Your Mother.

The writers decided their readers were complete morons. It wasn't just the end where the evil twin showed up and replaced the good twin after sitting in a totaled car three miles down bleeding to death then at the last minute he magically appeared and knocked out the good twin. That's certainly a moment when the writers' point their middle fingers at the audience and call them all stupid.

It's that they did the same thing with the character Rhonda's plot in every episode. I'd buy Jamie could part water before believing Rhonda would be hunted down by the police and treated the way she was. Her brother Scotty was the head of the crew saving the world and had a seat next to the President of the United States. I'm supposed to believe for a second some marshal has a score to settle by chasing and arresting the Savior of the world's sister while there's a comet headed for the planet? No cop is that dedicated to their job.

All B/S. There's no way in any dimension Rhonda would have been chased down and then sentenced to hanging. Not in the 2000s. Then I'm supposed to believe a soldier would shoot Scotty and fight Arnold? Right. Any person with a speck of sense would think this was completely unrealistic. The writers didn't take into consideration their viewers had actual thought processes.

One phone call from the President and Rhonda would have been freed from the start. Scotty was part of the team saving the world. No one would tell that person "no" anywhere. He'd have free ice cream for life and whatnot.

Like HIMYM and the Sopranos, this show disrespects the audience by assuming they're stupid. The worst part is it's a good show minus this stuff with a lot of redeeming aspects. It was rightfully canceled though.

Daredevil
(2015)

A fair review
There are tons of 10s and 1s, but no fair reviews really. Is Daredevil worth seeing? If you're into comic book movies and shows, love action than yes, do watch.

There are certainly issues with Daredevil:

People praise Charlie Cox who plays Daredevil, but no one seems to notice how awful his attempt at an American accent is at times. Is he from New York, Boston, the South? Hard to tell because he's clearly fighting to not sound British. A few times he even sounded Australian, which was actually funny.

The fights are great. However, if you watch them closely it's very obvious that the actors are worried about getting hurt and not really making contact.

We need a phrase for these Christopher Nolen watanabe filmmakers, too dark. By that I mean, the picture is literally too dark. I can't see anything. I had to brighten my computer almost all the way just to see what was going on during some scenes, particularly the fight scenes.

To me, the score at the beginning of the show could be a million times better. It's plain, so plain I mistook it for the intro song to Hemlock Grove, which is actually different.

Way too much screen time is focused on the character Karen Page. Yes, she's neat and interesting, but the show isn't about her. Subplots are one thing, but most episodes center around her.

Bright side is the acting's good and the show's really fun. The above is easy to look past.
