True Detective
(2014)

From "silk purse" to "sow's ear"!
So hard to give this a rating. The first year it was a 10/10. The second year it is a 1/10. I kept thinking I was missing something. I started out by recording the series and after 1 1/2 episodes, I had to cancel.

I realize the cast and the story line are different, but surly there is some cohesion among the developers.

This season is dull and slow moving beyond words. The characters are lifeless, the plot dry, the pace, sleep inducing.

I Looked forward to second season, but I am so disappointed. I don't even consider it watchable. I see by other comments, it isn't me. So sad.

Whatever Works
(2009)

Allen fans will love it..... David fans will hate it.
From the start of the film, it had the feel of a very funny play. Unfortunately, it is not a play and is not a very funny movie. Woody Allen devotees will appreciate the "Allenesqueness" of the writing. And it's evident that while David is playing Boris, he's really playing Woody, just not very well. Larry David's acting ability shines when he is ad libbing as on Curb, but here he sounds as though he's playing the part of an actor. Most of his lines are delivered like he's on stage and has to project. The cut-a-way scenes, when Boris (David) is talking to us (the audience), are too long and when the other characters in the scene participate by denying they can see anyone, it becomes silly. The performances from the other members of the cast range from respectable to, in the case of Patricia Clarkson( mother in law), quite good. I think if this would ever be turned into a stage play, L D would make a great Boris, but as much as I anticipated seeing this movie, and as much as I appreciate Larry David when he's playing "Larry David", I couldn't have been more disappointed.
