Chamber of Horrors
(1966)

Bizarre in supreme form
This is one of my 4 most favorite vintage horror movies of all time It's listed under Thriller, but his tortuous style and murders along with the Horn and Flasher always sent a chill up my spine Patrick O'Neal is in his best form although I haven't seen all his movies, but playing Jason the homicidal maniac had to be his most memorable He was so devilish and down right cruel that yes, it was really scary to watch He had that soft spoken demon in his vocals and knew just how to use his eyes, which is highlighted in the climax His ambush ingenious can well be compared to Vincent Price in "Theatre of Blood" They both knew how to make their victims beg for their lives Jeanette Nolan's portrayal of Jason's blue-blood aunt describing to Anthony Draco her nephew's madness and what drove him to it is spell binding She is indeed a strong actress and interesting to hear her rattle off the humorous one-liners The use of attachment instruments for his missing hand is clever and vile and what he does to the Sargent in the alley will grab you It's one of those acts you don't see coming Jason's fate in the climax makes a true chamber statement The whole cast was strong and lots of witty lines Sherlock Holmes fans will marvel in the detective techniques and the beautiful women will make for eloquent eye candy to men This movie is full of shivers and surprises

Wolf Creek
(2005)

More hype than grip
What a disappointment! For all the advertising and comments about going down in history it was just another 70's type torture movie Some of the scenes weren't real resolute in exactly what he was doing to them. I didn't see anything new as far as horror that I haven't seen in any other psychological thriller in fact I've seen a lot better. For almost an hour I was sleepily waiting for the first piece of action to happen. What did, wasn't very graphic. They focused more on the perve's facial reactions than how bad the victims bodies were damaged after an attack. Some of it seemed out of focus when he moved in on them. It was hard to believe it was an hour and 50 mn long Another example of how movie previews can be leading.

Although he was somewhat menacing, the killer is far removed from anything that would put the viewer on the edge of their seat. He did sick things to his victims, but he's no Leatherface. This isn't any different than your run of the mill fright fest. Some of the location shots, namely the night time moon shot with the light fading into it before the final victim got rescued, are effective and add to the overall atmosphere. The perpetrator was nothing like I was picturing him to be. The only thing actually memorable about him would be his un-nerving laugh.

Scalps
(1983)

ultra-melodic atmosphere
the very first image comes out of nowhere and really gives you a sense of terror for what goes on later in the movie. The way they filmed this adds to the darkly creepy atmosphere.Takes a while before the campers start getting attacked, but the weird atmosphere keeps you hooked till the kill scenes kick in,which are definitely uncompromising and graphic, namely the ultra bizarre decapitation scene flash cuts, near the very end.I knew that this is a true horror film when the heroes don't survive the massacre and the cold, unrelenting chill the atmosphere and suspense scenes lead to.Music is not too varied, although the melodic sounding music throughout the film helps you to feel the terror that they're feeling,an emotional element deeply lacking in today's cgi fx filled market of major motion pictures. It's too bad they don't make movies of this level of creepiness and unrelenting, grotesque murder scenes that don't hold back.Watch this gem at least once before you die, especially low-budget horror movie fanatics.

Hot Child in the City
(1987)

memorable dramatic highlights
This was a thought provoking piece. The dialog from Abby and Rachel was strong. Their outfits were trendy Best scenes were Abby in the disco losing her mind, the body in the dumpster discovery, Rachel's transformation, the love scene in the shower and the climatic unveiling of the killer in the end Not a household name in film, but interesting to watch and the soundtrack is rocking. There is also a transvestite that gets into some heated arguments with some of the cast but he is also quite comical and charismatic. One of the suspects also, notes that Abby was "flamboyant". There are many suspects as Abby was a powerful business executive and intimidated several men in her life Her dance sequences in the disco combined with the soundtrack back ground music were one of the best moments in the film
