The Lake House
(2006)

The man is dead, let it be!
The first time I watched this movie I was truly upset. When I watch a movie billed to be a love story I expect to see a love story. This was'nt a love story. I waited and waited and waited some more to see some sparks fly and they don't. Now we get to her party and they have their dance. Now all is well ; but, no, he's gone again. "what's the deal?" On top of that, he's dead. "How can that be?" I watched it again. Now I enjoyed it because I love Sandy and more or less did'nt care about all the holes in it. 1. The fact that Alex lived in the lake house before kate. 2. The paw prints were made from the mystery dog. 3. There is no attic in the lake house and on and on to one hole after another. Forget the holes. Watch it, enjoy Sandy, great sound tract, great scenery, some good laughs, strong acting and some how or other put the guy into the ground. See it twice. Much better the second time.

A Time to Kill
(1996)

A time to thrill!
Who in this movie does'nt play there part perfectly? The judge looks like a judge, a hanging judge at that. The sheriff is not a sugar coated law man, rather a tough Mississippi fair law man who knows what to do realistically. All the actors are cast in the only part they could be. THEN when the intensity of the movie gets to the boiling point who comes in to give us a break? You ALL know who. There she is to give us a break, and a laugh as Sandra swoops in on us. She is by far and away the most delightful actress I have ever seen. Even after she is beaten up and in a hospital bed she gives us a couple of chuckles. She has a delivery second to none. Every one, every one plays their role perfectly. Great movie, easy to follow, great story line, great all the way around. Do I like it? Yea about fifty times viewed like it.

Pretty Woman
(1990)

pretty Julia
Makes you laugh, makes you cry. Julia at her very best. When Edward is showing the beautiful necklace to Vivian and slams it shut just as she is reaching for it is an ad lib by Gere and made everyone who watched this movie roar with laughter. I never realized how much good music adds to a film as it did to this classic Roberts film. The hotel manager (mr Thompson) played his part to the hilt. In the scene where he questions Vivian and she says she is the niece of Edward, Vivian's eyes do all the acting getting small and beady eyed. The great ones have it (Bullock, Roberts) the ability to do such great acting with simply changing a facial feature. I have watched this movie twenty times and will watch it another twenty times. Don't bother renting it, buy it and be done with it.

Seabiscuit
(2003)

At a time in grave need a horse brings a nation together
Tic-Toc is my man. "this horse couldn't win a church raffle." it was so much fun to hear Tic-Toc eat his words as the movie progressed. The first time I watched it I couldn't believe what I had seen so I watched it again. Then I watched it with a friend then we watched it again. His comment was "This movie is powerful" That would be my best description also. Best movie concerning horses ever. This movie goes to show what a lot of kindness can do. Still don't understand why Annie left Howard. In those days it was common for children to drive a vehicle. But, Annie blamed the death of her son on Howard. I don't get it but I'm a guy so I guess I wouldn't. The second Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth Banks) is really hot! How did they make her look so flat chested? She sure isn't you know. Great great movie. The music alone had me shedding tears from beginning to end. Don't bother renting it, buy it and be done.

The Notebook
(2004)

not real
In the first part of the movie Noah and Allie were very believable having had a few young loves of my own. Very good scene on the wheel when Noah is holding on to a brace with one hand scaring the be-gebers out of Allie forcing her to go out with him and she says about four times she would, he then says "alright alright I'll go out with you" like she was begging him. Funny, very funny. When Allie was forced to leave to go to school the movie kind of went into the tank. First of all didn't Allie ever get the mail? Then we go to the nursing home where Noah reads to her most days and she can remember all of it. How can that be? She does'nt remember her kids but remembers A story being read to her? Then she gets her memory back for a few minutes and they are dancing. She then forgets Again and looks at Noah like he was Satan. Why? He reads to her every day and she does'nt go bonkers when they meet. One good laugh, many tears fall. They then die together. What do they do, strangle each other? Too many holes in this baby to be a top notch movie. To see it or not to see, flip a coin.

Hero
(1992)

Hoffman has a style
like all the great ones, Hoffman has a style. Hard to put a finger on but he portrays a life style of take care of yourself and life is not that big a deal. When he's standing on the bridge and he hears the passengers screaming for help he says "what's your problem pal"? I mean isn't that a bit facetious? Pretty obvious they have a problem. Great line. Great writing. This movie is funny, witty with several heart felt moments like when Chic the bartender asks him if he has a kid? When his ex has to admit in times of adversity Bernie Laplanta forgets about his own safety and rises to the occasion or when Gail Galley asks him if he was the one who pulled her out of the plain. I've watched this movie so many times I could watch it with the sound turned off and know every line. Got a really good feeling for Geena Davis in this movie. She shows so many different emotions in a really great acting job I forget it's a movie. Hoffman at his best only in this one he's better.

The Hunt for Red October
(1990)

best sub movie ever
First of all I love Sean Connery so I love any movie he is in. In this movie the first time you see it will be the best viewing. A lot of movies must be viewed many times to totally enjoy, not to say multiple viewing is not enjoyable in this case. The one thing that never comes out is why he wrote the letter to the Russian authorities telling them of his intention to defect to the United States. I believe he knew the Russians would send the fleet after him and this would alert the Americans that something was dreadfully wrong. Rameaus did not want to take the chance of being blown out of the water by the Americans if the Russians wanted help from the U.S. to destroy him. Like he said they had one chance in three that the U.S. would figure out what he was up to. When Red October and Dallas surfaced for a little pow-wow you see him fall away from the periscope when he knows the Americans are on to his intentions. I believe that was in relief. If you have'NT seen it do see it. It's great.

Uncle Buck
(1989)

Candy is candy
When we lost John Candy we lost a friend. I enjoyed all of his movies as I think I saw most of them. Uncle Buck probably his best. Tia (his niece) does'nt hate him because he's Unkle Buck, she hates him because he represents authority. She is young and rebellious as most fifteen year old teens are. Miles and Masie love him out of the get go because they see him for what he is, a big loving teddy-bear. When at the bowling ally when Buck chases Pal away the ice starts to melt as Tia starts to realize Buck is not out to get her but to protect her. Buck had to tell Tia a bit about the birds and the bees. Where was her father all her life? Anyway this movie has a lot of laughs a few tears trust and love. At the end in the scene when Tia's mother comes into the house and Tea and her embrace just about rips one's heart out. Happy ending? Why not? Don't rent it, buy it and be done with it.

Runaway Bride
(1999)

what happened on the flight to Hale?
When Ike is walking the streets in the big city he comes off as brash and rude and snobby. WHAT happened on the airplane to Hale? All of a sudden Ike touches down in Hale and he's the nicest guy in town. How did that happen? For the next half of the movie I'm waiting for him to be the ass that I thought he was. It does'nt happen. He is now Mr. good guy. Julia Roberts working in a hardware store is really a stretch but it comes out later she was helping her dad so I guess I can buy it. The rest of the movie was quite fun to watch Ike and Maggie fall in love with each other. The proposal was the nicest proposal I have ever heard anywhere. This is a super good good movie. Not Oscar material, just a good light hearted love story. If you like Roberts and Gere you can't go wrong.

Steel Magnolias
(1989)

too much pain
Steel magnolias has it all. Lots of laughs. Lots of pain. Too much pain. First of all the laughs. I would love to have the part played by Tom Skerritt as (Drum). Out side scaring the birds away by firing his pistol and then with his crossbow was really funny. The sparing he does with Shirly (Ouiser) will make you chuckle out-loud. Really great acting by everyone in the cast. So why am I down on this movie? Too much pain. After having watched a really good light comedy I'm suddenly watching Julia (Shelby) fighting for her life for a long time. Too much pain. Then the funeral and grave yard scene that wouldn't end was too much for me. The only part of the grave-yard scene that made me not hurt so much was when Annelle said it should be a celebration as Shelby was going to see her King. Again a great cast great acting but too much ----

28 Days
(2000)

Buy it you will like it
The first time I saw this I didn't think too much of it. Five stars out of ten. This movie is one of those that must be viewed several times to get all the little ins and outs. Sandra is brilliant in this movie. So what's new. Jasper was way over the top. He over acted so bad it was pathetic. Every one else did a great acting job. Betty the nurse is always fun to see (practical magic). Gerhart the geek really was great especially in the flower shop scene. If you have not seen this movie and you want to view it I suggest you purchase it because as I mentioned before you need to watch it more than once to enjoy it completely. You can buy it VHS for about $2.50 at amazon.com. You will be glad you did.

My Best Friend's Wedding
(1997)

Julia is special
Never been a big Julia Roberts fan until I saw the movie Erin Brockovich. That is a great movie. My best friend's wedding is better. I found myself rooting for Jules because I guess it's really easy to love Julia Roberts. If you lined up 100 good looking women and Julia was one of them you would stop looking the second you saw her. She just has that certain something that makes you want to take her home and take care of her. Enough about Julia. The movie is just plain fun. When Jules forces Kim to sing and she butchers the song but the crowd for some reason is kind to her really is cute. The acting is great and the omission of the F word but once makes this movie easy to tolerate. The actor who played Michael should play Elvis in some sort of way as his lip likes to sneak up just like the King's did. George was great and honest to Jules. I had to watch this movie a few times before I really enjoyed it. The wedding is not the biggie here. Getting to it is. Don't know how anyone would not like this movie. Must see!

Dances with Wolves
(1990)

Kicking Bird had it all together
DWW is a great movie all about the shrinking frontier, survival, bravery, friendship, trust and love. I have this DVD and watched it at least ten times. When I want to watch a movie it's easy for me to skip past DWW. It's somewhat long with not too many laughs or tears. A good romantic comedy seems more like chicken soup. When I do slip in DWW and get into the movie I'm never sorry that I did. With kicking Bird and Wind In His Hair at different ends of the spectrum makes it very interesting. Stands With A Fist plays a super part. Her acting is fantastic. The one thing that bugs me was when some of the braves shot a half dozen arrows into the mule driver then scalped him while he was still alive. Later when Dunbar writes about how caring, loving and all for family I had a hard time buying. Should have not had the scene of the mule driver in it. In the end with Wind In His Hair yelling at DWW sends chills and tears through me. A really good movie.

Fried Green Tomatoes
(1991)

Honey I hit a car accidentally four times
This is not a Hollywood cutesy movie. When Buddy is caught on the tracks you kind of relax because you know he will free himself at the last second. Wrong! Is this a movie reflecting real life? Yes it is. I'm not real sure I enjoyed this movie because I guess I like cutesy better. If you want realistic this is your movie. I really felt I was watching real life. Now the good things. The food throwing in the kitchen was great especially funny when Idgie spread chocolate frosting on Grady. When the minister Scroggins testified that Ingie was at a three day revival when Bennit disappeared I couldn't believe it until I was told the book was Moby Dick and not the bible. Pretty funny the way they cooked up Bennit and served him to the law man. The actual murder scene was quite anti-climatic as everything had been settled by then. Worth seeing? Yes. Do I want to see it again? Maybe, someday.

Erin Brockovich
(2000)

I love bunt cake
Never been a Julia Roberts fan until this movie. She looks great in this movie. She sure has won me over. Who want's coffee and a piece of bunt cake? Erin's hand goes up right now and Ed says they have to go. Erin quickly straightens him out and he says "I love bunt cake". This movie is better the second time you watch it because it does'nt drag and is fun from start to finish. Didn't care too much for George. Kind of hard to believe a biker would be such a great family man and would want to be a baby sitter. Don't think he would have volunteered if the lady would have not been a beauty queen. It's always fun to watch an intelligent women lead a man around by the the nose. Seen it many times and enjoy it every time. Fun to see David beat Goliath. It was also fun at the end to see Ed finally shut Erin's mouth. It was really neat to see the real Erin Brockovich and Ed Masry in the diner scene. As for Julia Roberts being a great actress, in the scene where Pete Jensen is throwing rocks at P G&E in the middle of the night we then focus on Erin in the house with Donna. Donna sobbing asks Erin to go get them. Erin is looking at Donna and couldn't say a word lest she would start weeping. The look on Erin's face and the nod she gives Donna speaks volumes without saying a word. As Tony The TIger would say "greeeeeeeeeat"! She is the greatest right behind Sandra Bullock.

The First Wives Club
(1996)

what a divine little club
This movie is so funny. (keaton) Annie really shines in her role. She can flat out act and belongs in the same league as Bullock and Hahn. When they came flying down the building in the window washer lift the look on Annie's face is hilarious. How do they do that? Bette Midler was out of her class in this one although she wasn't given that many chances to shine. Morty was good. When I see him I see Cheers and the way he was always after Carla. The three husbands were really great and got exactly what they deserved. Goldie gave her same great performance as she has done dating back to Rowan and Martins "Laugh in". This is a must see movie if for no other reason than to see three great actresses and have a lot of laughs. SEE IT!

When the Party's Over
(1992)

not Sandy's best
I watched this movie waiting to see a plot. There isn't any. They live together, go to bed together, party together and then they move out to cities all over the country. Din't care for Sandy in this one. What's with the F word anyway. She uses it in such an unsuitable way right out of the get-go over who ate her breakfast cereal. If that was to impress, I was't. This movie just wasn't good. It wasn't funny, it wasn't dramatic, it was about a few kids who were spoiled brats. Shoud I go to high school? Should I not? I will watch this one more time as I always do to see what I missed the first time around. So many times the second time viewed it's better. In this case I think I will dislike it more than the fist time.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
(1988)

Ruprecht rocks
Steve Marten is funny, period. Michael Caine has never enamored me until I saw him in miss congeniality. That was the first movie I really enjoyed him in. I recently bought DRS because I like Steve Martin and as far as humor goes Caine can't hold a candle to him. In this movie all he is is a set up man. A darn good set up man. Marten delivers ninety percent of the humor in this film. That said they were both great in their own roles. The only reason I can't give this a ten star rating is because I have no desire to rewind it and play it again. I still have only seen it once. Not to say this is not a good movie, because it is. There are only about four scenes that are really, really funny. SEE it, you will like it.

Play It Again, Sam
(1972)

This geek is the greatest
Woody Allen has made a living out of portraying himself as the world's biggest geek on the silver screen. How he ever got started I will never know. All he does is load up the Brink's truck and off to the bank he goes. The reason this movie is so much fun is because you know another laugh is just around the corner. I would love to see the out takes on this movie. You could see the other actors trying to hold back laughing. Diane Keaton loves working with Allen. She is quite a lady and a real looker. When Woody asks the stunning gal if she wants to dance and she says get lost creep and his answer to Linda is she'd rather not has to crack up any one who ever saw this movie. Over the years I have had a hard time finding people who like Allen. You look at him and you would like to tell him to get a haircut and get rid of those huge glasses. That I guess is his charm and appeal to his fans. This is a very funny film. If you like to laugh about fifty times during a movie, see this one. I don't like Allen and I love this movie. Give it chance. You will like it.

Speed
(1994)

had Sandy in it. that's all I need to know
Not too hard to please me when it comes to Sandra bullock. If just a still picture of her appeared on the screen I could watch it for two hours. That said guess where I start watching this movie. Right, when Annie gets on the bus. This movie is just plain fun to watch. When she tells Ortese to get back behind the yellow line I laugh every time. Kind of strange Jack did not see the TV camera sooner. It was right there. When Jack and Annie escape the buss tears are pouring from my eyes. The very end same thing. Don't know how Howard managed to get dressed, take Annie and put the explosives on her, and get under the garbage can all in about thirty seconds. He's quick. Oh well who cares. Lot's of great action great acting and yes Sandy. Any one ever notice what a beautiful set of teeth Sandy has? Who looks at teeth? I do.

Two If by Sea
(1996)

Not sandy's best
This movie started out with some good laughs but why didn't I like it? Sandra was pretty funny but that didn't satisfy me this time. The story itself was goofy. I mean this couple was together for seven years and had nothing? Beano didn't exactly come off as a real big crime boss. I mean being the idiot of the Red Green show to king pin? I don't think so. The fishing scene was hilarious and the deer scene was great. I didn't care for Roz making a play for the rich neighbor only to run back to Frank when rich boy gets busted. The FBI, police and sheriff department were all so inept it was like the key stone cops. It had all in all some laughs but I was glad when it ended. Good enough to watch once I guess. This movie is so so.

Practical Magic
(1998)

fish tosh!
Fish, tosh to those who didn't enjoy this movie. I guess the old saying is true "you can't please every one". I don't get it. This movie is light as a feather offending no one. It has the best beginning of any movie I have ever seen. What other movie gives you a laugh in the fist 30 seconds? When Maria Owens jumps off the hanging ramp, snaps the rope and scares the hell out of 38 people and the dove even flys away as quickly as he can. That's funny! It's easy to follow all through the movie and I really like that. This movie was a laugh academy all the way. So so many laughs. The best one was when Sally mouths out "I don't know" When Gary has Jimmy's hand go into him and he's outside the look on his face is priceless. I could go on and on about this baby. It was great with a great cast, great acting and of course Sandy Bullock and Nicole kidman. How can you beat that? Those two are a sheer delight. I think you get the picture. I love it! p.s. Nice po po in the garden scene of SANDY. I also don't want to get in the way of Sandy's left hook. Joe Frasier would go down.

Love Potion No. 9
(1992)

It was a drag.
I saw this movie years ago and remember it as being quite good. The bar scenes were very good. I bought the VHS of it and gave it another viewing. They must have changed the VHS version as there was only one bar scene. I am wrong. It is not a good movie at all. It had Sandra in it and you can't mess her up. She was super in it as always. She did her very best to save this movie but it was not to be. It really was a drag. I can,t say for sure that it was that bad because I think they changed it quite a bit leaving some really great scenes out. It just wasn't the same as I remember it. I will say it was nice to see Anne Bancroft once again. It boils down to this. I think the first time I saw it it was okay. The version I bought was not okay. Don't get me wrong, the acting was good. The movie was bad.

Keeping the Faith
(2000)

Don't do it. Stay at home and cry
I didn't care for it. The slap stick comedy isn't any good. Don't care for Ben Stiller. Where do they get these guys? I think there's still hope for me. Are the actresses all taller than the actors out in tinsel town? Very poor attempt at trying to make Stiller and Norton funny. They are not funny. Two men of the cloth trying to get in a young girls pants to me is insulting. I keep seeing comments on this movie claiming how good it was. If you haven't seen it. Don't! This is not a good movie. This is one of those movies you wish would end but it won't. As far as Stiller and the leading lady being in love, I don't think so. I have more passion for my dog than they had for each other. Just a lousy movie.

Gun Shy
(2000)

had Sandy, that's all I need to know
First of all Sandy is in it. She is an absolute doll in this movie and that makes it worth while to view. She's just so lovable. However this movie isn't about her, it's about Charlie and Fulvio. A lot of laughs in this one. A bit hard to follow trying to figure out who the bad guys are and who the good guys are. How could you not like Fulvio? He has several scenes that are really funny. When he's trying to grow tomatoes was really funny. The ending was kind of dumb. I mean all those bullets going off and no one get's killed? Then they all get into a small tug boat and go where? All in all well worth seeing. Back to Sandy. Plays a great part but she looks so small compared to Charlie. Don't know how she figured Charlie was so full of fear in thirty seconds. I guess I don't have to know. This movie taught me to get a bowl of strawberries sit down relax and enjoy life and stop worrying about death. That will come when it comes.
