Most Dangerous Game
(2020)

Fun Thriller, no frills, just enjoy
Okay, I'll come straight out of the traps and say; the premise of this movie (like every "game" movie or series) is highly unrealistic.

I'll also say: it doesn't matter. Suspend your disbelief, it's a thriller.

It's well scripted, well acted, well paced. Christopher Walt is phenomenal as always. Hemsworth plays his part well, the hunters, especially Webster as the British gentleman ice pick hunter, are on point.

Put your logical brain at the door, relax, pour yourself a drink and just enjoy.

Gods of Egypt
(2016)

Fun adventure
Watched without any expectations. The special effects were strong and interesting. I didn't feel any connection to any of the characters, didn't feel there was any story arc. The movie seemed to me the equivalent of a firework display; not bad, but just held my interest for the attractive parts.

The Bubble
(2022)

Just what is going on here
The irony of this movie is that it's a bad movie within a very bad movie. Like, the fictional bad movie they're making is probably more entertaining than this one if it existed.

There is nothing funny in this. Nothing. Like literally not one funny line. Or funny scene. Every bit of dialog is stilted and you're waiting for a funny line; and it never happens.

Inventing Anna
(2022)

Disappointing
Having listened to the BBC podcast series on Anna I was really interested to watch this. I was disappointed because so much of the series was focussed on the journalist and not on her story. What a wasted opportunity.

Guns Akimbo
(2019)

Pure fun
Don't expect anything deep or complex (but why would you, from a movie called Guns Akimbo) but my god is this a fun, entertaining film. Radcliffe is fantastic and I think it says something about his range that he seems to just embrace the utter silliness.

Pour yourself a drink, relax, leave your brain at the door and let this movie take you on a fun ride.

Life
(2017)

Unbiased review - decent sci-fi suspense
I purposely didn't read any other reviews and went in with an open mind.

I found the suspense, tension and pacing of this movie strong. The screenplay was good if not outstanding, but I felt there was character development and I did feel genuine sympathy for the characters and their predicament.

Without spoilers, I felt the threat was believable and frightening enough and created suspense; I'd have liked the threat to have been less one-dimensional and predatory. An obviously sentient creature, I'd have liked to have seen more evidence of its intelligence and learning capabilities and without diminishing the threat, a more fairly matched fight even if the outcome is the same.

Overall a fairy strong film; but in terms of space suspense/horror not a patch on classics such as Alien.

Contratiempo
(2016)

Phenomenal
Sometimes, just sometimes, you uncover a gem out of nowhere. This movie is it. The plot, acting and screenplay is flawless; it twists (and you expect the twists) and it twists again and again. A modern Agatha Christie for sure. Watch, you won't be disappointed.
