Preacher
(2016)

Series 3 is a let down, Series 1-2 were brilliant
Series one took you on a whirlwind of dark humour and character discovery, from the curious character of Preacher himself to the despicable Odin Quincannon, series two continued this interesting evolution with amongst other things the emergence of Herr Starr and the "friendship" between Eugine and Adolf Hitler. Series 3 however seemed to drag on, and appeared to have abandoned dialogue in favour of all-out OTT fight scenes and a simplistic "tough talk" script with all the subtlety of Donald Trump in a ladies changing room. If this is close to the comics - then perhaps it needs some artistic touch-ups - and I don't mean more CGI. Indeed, some may have spotted the continuity gaffe when the Saint of Killers was being "whipped to the bone" S3E4 - you can see a reflection of his back on the glossy doors and it appears to be perfectly fine, then he turns around to reveal some poor makeup effects of it being deeply cut. That along with some of the lame CGI and limited dialogue makes this season seem rushed.

Breaking Bad for grown ups... Hurry up season 5
Like the predecessor Breaking Bad - this takes a little while for things to fall in pkace, but it has been worth wait the wait so far - in particular the courtroom showdown between the two brothers (I'll say no more!). I would say that BCS is even better than BB and can stand on it's own feet independent of it's predecessor. It doesn't have the darkness of BB (which at times I found tedious) but instead has mostly fast-flowing well crafted dialog. This might just be one of the best titles yet - close second only to Halt and Catch Fire ;)

Halt and Catch Fire
(2014)

Farewell to one of the best series ever to come out of the US...
...By a Brit ;) Sure it had some minor flaws and cliches, but it had a very important message about failure and finding inner strength to continue trying to find the next big thing.. and finding solace if not. Those of us who happen to work in startups especially in the tech arena can well relate to the characters and story lines, and for those that don't - it's all very much like that. Whether it's scrounging a lift to a conference to demo something because your company is in dire straits (or because the board doesn't approve) or seeing key people being asked to leave having inadvertently almost destroyed the thing they started to create...Halt tells the stories and is gripping start to end in a job well done. Farewell, great ride whilst it lasted.

Sattre doesn't mean dumbed down constant explanation
Not so much deadpan but dead. Its nice that some directors in the US thought they should try and launch a "self deprecating movie of American society and foreign policy" - the caveat of course being that the actors and directors are not including themselves as subjects of deprecation. I suspect the target audience for this film is the kind who might vote for the kind of president who replaced Barrack Obama, except they're probably the least likely to watch anything they think might be critical of their perceived sense of righteousness. With this in mind, the film overly and excessively labors the point, so much so that it forgets it's satirical intentions, insulting the intelligence of anybody watching it who might already be aware of the foolishness of US foreign policy not just since the war in Afghanistan, but for the past 70 years at least (probably not the place to go into it) catch 22 is a far better place to start. As Winston Churchill himself once said "you can count on Americans doing the right thing... Having exhausted every other possibility first". The icing on the cake was in the press scene in Germany, where it seems to need to spell out the point several times that it is almost ridiculing the viewer - my partner and I were screaming yes we know... we don't need to be reminded constantly. Team America with it's crude simplistic style looks like a work of genius in comparison.
