The I-Land
(2019)

Possible the worst show I have ever seen
Its actually kind of impressive,, most people couldn't make a show this bad if they tried. The plot is like a discount version of LOST mixed with a dumbed down Cabin in the Woods, except without any interesting mysteries or likeable characters. The acting a dialogue is really bad. The characters actions are illogical to the point of being annoying. The show reveals its twist in the 3rd episode, so I continued watching thinking that the final episode might have an even bigger plot twist in store. Nope. The ending's twist is as stupid as what came before. And it doesn't even get to "it's so bad it's good" territory.

This show was so bad that I actually felt offended. The fact that this was produced is an insult to viewer's intelligence. If I were stuck on a mystery island and this was the only thing to watch I would go swimming and hope that shark would come and put me out of my misery.

You might not have liked the ending of LOST but it was still a lot better than this piece of garbage. Avoid at all costs.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
(2019)

A Decline in the Series
I love the 1st Wick movie, thought the 2nd was decent, this one had a few moment but it totally failed to capture the magic of the 1st one. Sure it's still a decent action movie, but it pales in comparison to the groundbreaking original film.

My biggest complaint is the action is not what it once was. You can see the baddies (who are supposed to be trained assassins) hanging back in group fights and waiting for their turn to attack Wick. You can see assassins armed with guns get within arm's reach of Wick without firing a single shot. Maybe this is because Keanu is getting older, but honestly I think the issue is with the production team. Simply put they could have choreographed and shot the action scenes in such a way that it wasn't so blatantly obvious how scripted the fights were.

My other complain is that this movie does not really have an ending. Its more of a "to be continued" type of thing.

Truthfully I will still watch John Wick 4. But I certainty don't expect it to be anywhere near the masterpiece that the 1st movie was.

Recommended to action fans, but discerning viewers watch out, the cracks in the series are starting to show.

I Am Mother
(2019)

Good Intelligent Sci Fi
I had heard nothing about this move and decided to give it a chance since I am a fan of sci-fi. I am happy to say the movie was really enjoyable. It's more character driven than action based and I really liked the fact that the movie leaves clues for the viewer to figure out and it never makes it too obvious or feels the need to spell it out for the viewer.

The movie looks good, the sci fi effects are convincing and the actors involved do a great job. The plot is ambiguous enough that you will be often unsure of who is telling the truth.

If you enjoy cerebral sci fi like Ex Machina or Moon you should definitely check this movie out. I would avoid spoilers too until you've seen the movie since figuring it out was a big part of the fun for me.

Triple Frontier
(2019)

Has Potential; Let Down by Plot Holes
This movie has enough potential to be good that it's a shame its not better. The fact that Netflix hired several famous actors for the movie would make one think they would give them a really good screenplay to work with, but sadly that is not the case.

The plot is pretty cliche ridden. Typical Special Forced operator reluctantly gets involved in one last mission plot. The worst thing about the movie is that these seasoned professional soldiers make some real amateur mistakes. -When reconning the house they're gonna rob they all wear civilian clothes instead of camouflage. -They have the radio discipline of 12 year olds. They exchange banter over the radio with no thought given to if any of the bad guys might have a radio scanner. -They have a shipping container full of weapons but no one brings a silencer on the mission. -They ignore their own timetable and get greedy when clearly they have more money than they can carry. -They overload a helicopter which crashes due to being too heavy. Why didn't they land somewhere and stash some of the money? -One soldier takes a bullet through the abdomen, we see him check it once or twice, but he proceed to cross the Andes mountain with no problems. -The whole time these guys are hiking the mountains we never see or hear of any food or water. What did they eat and drink for those days?

There's more but thats what I remember off the top of my head. In summary, this could have been a pretty decent action/heist movie but the end result was not that great.

Hap and Leonard: Monsoon Mambo
(2018)
Episode 6, Season 3

A let down finale to an otherwise entertaining season
Hap and Leonard is an underappreciated yet very fun show. And I've generally enjoyed it, but this episode was garbage. All the build up throughout the season only to have one of the stupidest ending I could imagine. Hap and Leonard don't even really play a role in the pivotal finale scene. Its a shame, too because apparently they wont be making any more seasons and its too bad that this is the last we'll see of Hap and Lleonard.

Dis
(2018)

Very Minor Spoilers below
I want to like this movie but its hard to do so. The opening sequence is quite weird and very disturbing so I had some hopes for this movie. But after that the start is quite slow and once things got going I had a hard time accepting the main characters portrayal. The protagonist (an ex-soldier) has terrible hunting technique. He crashes through bushes loudly with no attempt at stealth and he smokes while hunting. No wonder he doesn't catch anything. His tactical abilities aren't great either, he finds a creepy building, seemingly abandoned, but inside is a pentagram with candle that are still burning, and graves outside, and never once does he even ready his rifle. Then as he leaves he litters an empty pack of cigarettes which seems like a bad idea considering whoever is worshiping satan might notice the litter and know someone was there.

Then the movie eventually becomes like a weird fever dream. Kind of like the Nic Cage movie "Mandy", except without all the entertaining violence. For how dark and messed up it gets I strangely found it to be a bit boring. And the sound is obnoxious, its get quiet then suddenly will have a super loud screeching sound, kind of like a cheap audio equivalent of a jump scare. The audio levels are all over the place with this move.

Not recommended.

Les frères Sisters
(2018)

Very Enjoyable Non-Conventional Western
This is not your standard western but its really well done and entertaining. It takes a realistic approach to the Genre, no invincible gunslingers here, just regular guys. And instead of black and white bad and good guys everyone here is painted in gray tones, like you would find in real life.

The movie is dialogue driven and focuses on the characters rather than the action. There are some good action scenes but thats not the main focus of this film. Theses scenes are somewhat gory (in a realistic way) so sensitive viewers should beware.

This is the type of movie that one might almost expect to have one of those annoying non-endings just for the sake of being artsy, but it avoids that pitfall and has an ending that is fitting for the tone of the movie.

****VERY VERY Minor SPOILER Below**** My only complaint is that there is one scene where a character takes actions with a caustic chemical that are never explained and don't make sense. I really wanted to know what he was trying to do there but sadly it never was mentioned again. ***********

Overall I recommend this film to anyone that likes westerns and is in the mood for one with a slightly different tone than normal. I really enjoyed it.

Alpha
(2018)

Good story idea ruined by poor execution
I like the idea of a movie plot centered around the first domestication of wolves/dogs. Sadly, this movie is a bit of a mess. I found myself contantly taken out of the story by inconsistencies and illogical plot points.

-Despite using stone tools there is a character that had the sides of his head shaved down to the skin. The kind of shave I imagine you can only get from a razor. Yet they only had stone knives. -On a closeup of one characters hand we can see his fingernails are perfectly manicured and not even dirty. I'm pretty sure there was no such thing as manicures 20000 years ago. -Several times there are fires being made on what appears to be tundra. The wide shots clearly show no trees or wood for miles around so where are they getting materials to make these fires.

*****minor spoilers below*****

SPOILERS -The first scene of the movie starts off on a bad foot. A character is attacked by a buffalo who had the murderous focus of Jaws. Those kind of animals attack as a defense, they dont get mad that their family is being killed and just focus on one individual to take revenge on. -A character badly injures his leg, is able to climb down a cliff, set the leg (which indicates to me it was broken) then proceeds to hobble and limp for a scene or two but soon enough he's running on it like it was never a problem. The leg injury was just stupid added drama and the way it was handled was an insult to viewers. -Too many near death escapes. Fall under the ice and get trapped. No worries, you wont get hypothermia. Being chased by a pack of hyenas through a blizzard, don't worries, there is deus ex machina cave you will fall into and the hyena will fail to notice and run right past. Get sick to the point that your coughing up blood. Dont worry the movie is just doing this for sympathy, nothing will actually come of the sickness.

I did sit through the whole thing and found myself thinking what a shame that they screwed up so many things in this move. With more thought put into it this movie really could have been good.

I Think We're Alone Now
(2018)

Slow Movie Carried By Strong Acting Performances
Peter Dinklage is a national treasure. I became a fan of his through his performance in Game of Thrones and I've really come to enjoy his acting. He is the reason that I Think We're Alone Now is decent and worth a watch. I am a fan of post-apocalyptic stories in general so that contributed to my enjoyment.

However, this movie does have some flaws. The plot is slow moving, has weird abrupt tonal changes, unanswered question/plot holes and the final act is just weird. They shoehorn in a side plot that becomes a huge part of the ending and it just felt off to me. Plus I can't articulate just why, but I think the title of this movie is stupid. I guess it just doesn't fit in with the actual story, plus it makes everyone think of that song of the same name.

Recommended to fans of post-apocalyptic movies who enjoy strong acting. Not recommended to watchers looking for action or adventure movies.

Mandy
(2018)

Strange Retro Acid-Trip Grindhouse Madness
I watched this movie because (a) it had an imdb rating of 7.2 (b) the revenge plot sounded interesting and (c) its got Nic Cage.

At first I was a little bored. This is a slow-build type of movie. It sometimes uses long lingering shots that don't contribute any information to the plot. The main character and his lady Mandy are pretty bland people at first. The cult figures are obviously evil but not that interesting until they decide to go after Mandy. The stuff starts getting CRAZY.

The 2nd half of the film turns into an insane grindhouse style killing spree. I enjoyed it. It makes full use of Nic Cage's craziness. I loved his decent into madness, starting with his booze chugging in the bathroom, later snorting a big pile of coke belonging to a guy he just killed, and finally sampling something in a jar that I have no idea what it was. I loved his performance and even laughed a couple times. The movie uses weird filters and colors so watching it is like being on LSD. BE ADVISED: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE ON LSD (OR MUSHROOMS) OR YOU ARE PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEED A BAD TRIP. Just watching it sober makes you feel like you are tripping out.

Sure the visuals can be a bit much and the synth soundtrack is borderline annoying but it creates such a feeling of tension and madness that I can't help but kind of like this movie just for the experience. The movie is weird, it has plot holes, it is boring at times and cheesy at others, and once it was over I couldn't help but think "Wow, what the hell did I just watch?" But that being said I still enjoyed it, hence my rating of 7.

Be warned, this movie is not for everyone. If you are sensitive to violence (or even just weird sounds and colors) do yourself a favor and skip it. Fans of Nic Cage insanity and weird, wild action scenes should slog through the slow beginning and enjoy the madness once things get rolling.

The Meg
(2018)

Dumb, Yet Fun
I've never read the book this was based on and had zero expectations other than having seen a trailer for this movie. Overall I enjoyed it, in a guilty pleasure sort of way. The action is over-the-top and Jason Statham does a good job as the lead. Perfect mindless summer movie fun right there.

But there were several things about this movie I wasn't fond of: ****Very Minor SPOILER BELOW****

-Inconsistent CGI shark. Some scenes it looks great, in others the CGI is pretty terrible.

-The sharks behavior is ridiculous. Worse than that shark in Jaws 4 that swam from New England to the Caribbean because it wanted revenge. Here the Meg sticks around our characters for no reason at all WHEN IT LITERALLY HAS THE ENTIRE OCEAN TO SWIM IN. At times they made it seem like a regular shark (attracted to movement or lights) but other times it was just portrayed as a psycho killing machine. Wouldn't a 75 foot shark just go find and eat some whales? Instead of going after like one puny human at a time? Hell at one point the shark goes after a little dog. It would be like if a lion went around eating ants, it's an inefficient food source that takes way to much energy for too little return.

-The forced romance between Jason Statham and the Chinese scientist was weak. Their banter was annoying instead of cute. And the little girl scenes served no purpose at all.

-This movie does what many movies are doing these days: Chinese pandering. The chinese scientist speak fluent english but at times switches to what I think is mandarin to talk to her father or daughter (both of whom also speak english fluently.) I know China is a huge market but do they really need to try to shoehorn in extra chinese stuff to make it more appealing to that market? This movie is not as bad as say The Cloverfield Paradox or Skyscraper, but still, it was annoying. If I was a chinese moviegoer I would be offended by such obvious pandering.

-Too many fake outs where you think the shark has eaten someone or something only to find it just missed them and the camera angle the movie used was just misleading. This is a cheap trick, I consider it about as lame as jump scares.

-Rainn Wilson (who I generally like) plays a weird billionaire guy who kind of seemed like the answer to the question "What if Dwight Schrute became a billionaire?" His action in this movie show him to be one of the dumbest characters in any movie ever. After he leaves the research station to pursue the shark, the sequence that follows is more like a shark hunt feature one of the 3 stooges. It was so dumb.

-None of the character show fear or shock. No matter how crazy or traumatic things are they still engage in "witty" banter and jokes. (Please note the quote indicate that the banter and jokes are not actually witty.)

Wow, so I've got this huge list of complaints and I'm still awarding a 6? Yes because the movie was stupid, yet fun. Like if sharknado had a good budget and decent actors.

Recommended to: Moviegoers able to switch off their brains and people who are just naturally dumb.

Not recommended to: People that can't overlook illogical behavior and marine biologists who know things about sharks.

Big Legend
(2018)

Better than it should be
I wasn't expecting too much from this movie, but it ended up being better than than it should be. I was entertained from start to finish. For it's budget this film is extremely well done.

The monster scenes are done right, you mostly just get glimpses of the monster which seems like a good choice on the director's part. Sure, occasionally the characters make irrational decisions and some random coincidences occur but otherwise the plotting is tight. This movie ended up bring more fun than I thought it would be be and the people involved did a great job of making the most of their apparently modest budget.

Recommended to fans of bigfoot-esque, monster in the woods type of movies. (If you are someone who only enjoys movies with budgets of $300 million and higher you might want to skip this one.)

Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee
(2016)

Engrossing (And Distrubing)
I have awarded 7 stars for sheer entertainment value. Despite some questions surrounding the authenticity of this documentary's sources the bottom line for me is that this movie hooked me from the start and held my interest from beginning to end. It's a disturbing look at the life of a rich man with questionable morals acting like he's king of his adopted foreign country.

Be warned, there are some disturbing scenes and topics discussed such as rape, and graphic descriptions of torture and murder. But if you can handle that I recommend this movie, I found it engrossing.

Batman Ninja
(2018)

Batman Anime; Fun But Dumb
I really enjoyed the creative look created by fusing Batman imagery with Japanese artwork and anime. The movie has some visually stunning moments. However, the plot is pretty dumb, Batman's verbal interactions with joker sound like they were written by a 7 year old and the plot doesn't make much sense.

Honestly, every 10 star and 1 star review should be ignored. This movie is decent for what it is, not great, but mildly entertaining and fans of the animated Batman series might find something to enjoy here.

5 Doctors
(2016)

Lacks humor
Maybe this is just not my kind of comedy, but I found this movie to be boring and not humorous. I generally like quirky comedies and I don't mind dry humor but this one didn't do anything for me. I think my biggest problem is that I don't really like the main character. He's not funny and he lacks charisma. Maybe this was meant to be some kind of indie drama? I don't know. I honestly wanted to like this movie but I can't recommend it.

The Lighthouse
(2016)

Weird and Moody Historical Movie (Very Minor Spoilers)
This story of 2 lighthouse keepers (set in 1801) feels like it has the potential to be good, but eventually lets the viewer down.

Not much happens in the first third. Just 2 guys in a lighthouse, basically. And it ends up being the best act. The two main characters don't say much and I think that might be why it's the best part of the movie. No offense to the actors, but I feel like as the movie progressed and the script called for increasingly demanding performances the actors fell a little short.

In the 2nd act a storm hits and things start getting a little weird. The characters find a hidden stash of whiskey and get drunk a lot. I expected more of a "man vs nature/the elements" aspect to this movie. Instead, it's more about 2 guys, some whiskey and a decent into madness.

The 3rd act was so weird that I started to lose interest. Without giving any specific spoilers, the decent into madness I mentioned earlier ends up consuming the whole movie. The storm and the lack of supplies are hardly addressed.

The tone and look of the movie are dark. Lots of low light situations where it's a little hard to see whats going on on the screen. It's hard to describe, but the feel of the movie is just weird The movie also contain some pretty bad dialogue clichés. Mentioning them would be hard to do without spoilers, but I'll just say the script was weak in some places.

Lastly, I want to know how a light house in 1801 had some sort of gear-driven rotating mechanism. It was never shown or explained how such a thing works. For a movie called "The Lighthouse" I would have liked to learn more about the actual lighthouse. It sounds weird to me too, but during the boring parts I found myself wondering about that. Might have to google it later.

Overall, although I wanted to like this movie, the beginning made me think it had potential, but sadly that potential got thrown in the trash as the movie got weirder and darker. I could only recommend this to someone who is in the mood for weirdness and lunacy, and doesn't mind the times that the scrip or acting fall a little short.

Thumper
(2017)

Nothing New
I kind of like gritty movies about the drug underworld. This one was just OK. All the elements were there but the movie didn't really do much for me.

My main problem is I didn't like any of the characters. Even the protagonist. They all made such dumb decisions. And even the scenes of the protagonist's home life which felt like they were supposed to earn her sympathy ended up just being sad.

Not a bad movie by any means. But certainty not a great one. I suspect younger audience might like this more than those over 30. For me the movie was hard to connect with.

In a month or so I'll probably forget this movie completely and that is it's worst sin- being unmemorable.

Brad's Status
(2017)

Unlikeable Protagonist
My main problem with this movie is that Ben Stiller's character Brad comes off as whiny and ungrateful and is basically not enjoyable to follow for and hour and a half. He is self centered and needy. At one point a young woman in the movie (who did a great job by the way) points out his flaws, but the makers of this movie seem unaware of this and think that somehow his story is one that people would be interested in. I thought he came across as spoiled and hard to relate to.

Additionally, the classical soundtrack was overdone and the ending lacks resolution.

Perhaps viewers who have lived a more privileged lifestyle than me can relate to this movie and find something to like here, but I didn't enjoy it personally.

Espionage Tonight
(2017)

Boring
The opening scene of this movie is shot in extra-shaky cam, with fake looking CGI blood and terrible attempts at comedy. For example the main character references his erect penis in the first 3 minutes of the movie in an unfunny attempt at humor, then later uses the blood of a guy who's been shot to make "war paint" stripes under his eye in an unfunny attempt at humor.

So I figured this would be spy comedy (perhaps poorly done but still a comedy.) I was wrong.

I watched the next 45 minutes in utter boredom. I connected with none of the characters. I found nothing funny. The plot of a reality show about spies ended up being wasted with a really boring script. I honestly don't even think I'm going to be able finish this one, it's that bad.

Not recommended. This movie makes "Killing Gunther" seem good in comparison.

Brawl in Cell Block 99
(2017)

Good Lord, This Is A Rough Movie To Watch
First of all, if you are squeamish (even a little) DO NOT watch this movie. But if you've got the stomach for an extremely violent (and sometimes depressing) movie this might be worth your time.

Vince Vaughn does an excellent job. In fact, the acting in the whole movie is surprisingly good for a grindhouse-style flick. This is about a man in a bad, bad position, who bad things happen to, and who in turn does some very bad things. But if you can handle this type of movie you will be entertained.

The action is gritty to the point of being potentially sickening. I was disturbed, and yet I wish more movies took this approach to action. The fight scenes are not comic bookish like so many movies, rather they are brutal and somehow realistic. Honestly they were the best thing about this movie.

Don't expect a brawl in the sense that a whole cell block starts fighting riot style. This is more of a Bronson-esque "one man out for revenge" style of movie.

The only negative I noticed is that there were a few unbelievable parts regarding the prison system, but they were needed to drive the plot along in the direction it went. Viewers should really just suppress their disbelief (and gag reflexes) and just strap themselves in for the ride.

Recommended for anyone that can handle the darkness and appreciate the brutally gritty craziness that is this movie.

Nightworld
(2017)

Ends up being better than you'd expect
While this is not the best movie by any means it is pretty good. Better than I thought it would be, at least.

The best part is the mystery of the weird building. It reminded me of the Peter Clines novel 14, in that it involves a mysterious apartment where not everything is as it seems.

The ending and explanation are pretty good. I was somehow expecting to feel let down by the reveal and that wasn't the case.

The acting is pretty good, or maybe I should say its really good for this type of movie. The characters seemed nuanced and not just 2D cutouts are can be often found in these lower budget movies.

Plus I liked that the setting was somewhere other than the US, that added a little bit of extra charm to the movie.

Recommended, honestly this movie is better than I thought it would be and I was entertained for the whole 1.5 hours it took to watch.

Dog Soldiers
(2002)

A Movie That Punches Above it's Weight Class
This movie has no right being as good as it is. It's not great, but by all means it should be terrible. And it's not.

Things I liked: -The effects are practical, not CGI. And they only show glimpses of the werewolves until the end of the movie so one doesn't get tired of the costumes. I think they did a better job with the werewolves than many high budget Hollywood movies would. -Sir Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight, does a great job in his role. The rest of the cast did pretty good with their acting too. -The plot moves along quickly and sustains a fun tone throughout.

Negatives: -I did find a couple of minor plot holes/things that don't totally make sense.

Overall this movie is much better than one would expect. Sure it's kind of cheesy and it's clearly a low budget effort, but they make the most of what they have to work with and it ends up being surprisingly good.

Recommended to fans of werewolf movies and anyone that enjoys a well made B-movie

American Made
(2017)

Feels like watching a movie length montage
I had virtually no expectations for this movie other than a trailer I had seen.

Turns out the entire movie is like a trailer. The whole movie was a series of jump-cuts from scene to scene. There were a ton of montages of Cruise flying, smuggling, etc. It felt like the movie tried to hard to not get bogged down in details, but as a result I found the movie hard to connect with. It didn't help that Cruise's character doesn't have much of a persona. He likes to fly and has questionable morals (such as being willing to smuggle drugs) but there is not much there beyond that.

I think they wanted to show that he loved his family but he made so many questionable decisions that put them at risk that it was hard to like his character. Plus some people have described this as a comedy but it totally lacked any laugh out loud moments or even internal chuckles.

I feel like this story could have been better told with more of a cohesive story line, rather than having Cruise montage his way through it all. It felt like a 2 hour trailer to me.

I gave 5 stars because the movie is somewhat entertaining, but I feel like it fell short of it's potential and I wouldn't watch it a 2nd time.

Killing Gunther
(2017)

A Dumb Movie Slightly Redeemed By Arnold; 4/10 Stars
I love assassin movies. The best thing I can say about this movie is I did watch the whole thing without shutting it off.

95% of the movie follows a documentary crew who is hired to follow a team of assassins. They are trying to kill the worlds greatest hit-man, a guy named Gunther (Played by Arnold.) One or two of the assassins are amusing but most of the jokes fall flat and the movies ends up being pretty tedious as a result. I honestly wanted to like it but the writing is pretty bad, the action is laughable (but not in a good way) and what could be an interesting premise is wasted.

The best part of the movie is Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is the only actor in the movie that feels like a real actor, which is crazy because he's know more for his action abilities than his acting abilities. Sadly, Arnie is only in about 5% of the movie and the rest of the time viewers are stuck with a mediocre cast. At the very least I give Arnold credit for making the most of his role. (Although I bet he only was on set for a week.) Even though this is a comedy movie and not a true story I was disappointed by the lack of internal consistency. Basically Gunther (Arnie's character)is capable of performing assassinations that defy all logic and explanation. I would have rather him been a very good assassin who is human, rather than a super-powered baddie who can apparently bend the laws of time and space.

I acknowledge that there was a decent idea here. Unfortunately it didn't work out and I'm surprised Arnold agreed to appear in this movie. I'm guessing most of the budget was spent on his salary, otherwise his presence makes no sense to me.

Sadly, I cannot recommend this movie, unless you are a huge Schwarzenegger fan and you love the idea of an assassin comedy (and you smoke enough pot that you are able to suspend disbelief in the face of the ridiculous and are able to laugh at jokes that aren't really funny.) Sober viewers should probably skip this one.

The Big Sick
(2017)

After Reading Good Reviews, A Let Down
I understand that different people have different tastes but I was surprised to see such high praise for this movie. I found it tedious and not very funny at all.

The lead actor is very good in his role in Silicon Valley but I found I didn't really enjoy him as the lead for a 2 hour movie. I hate to say it but he's not that funny (without being teamed up with Gilfoil that is) and without a strong lead the movie becomes boring. The plot is nothing groundbreaking either, I found it to be very predicable.

I kept waiting for things to get more interesting (or at least funnier) but it never happened. If you watch the 1st ten minutes and are not entertained you should probably just shut it off.

Even the title is off-putting to me. I get that its a reference to the love interest getting sick but its weird they went with "The Big Sick." To me it doesn't fit the tone of the movie at all.

Perhaps my expectations were too high (movie is currently 7.9 on IMDb) but I didn't find this movie to be very entertaining. I have awarded a few starts based on the strength of some of the supporting actors, without them I would have shut this off within 30 minutes.
