No Hard Feelings
(2023)

Nothing redeeming about this movie from an Oscar winner
This is SO beneath an amazing Oscar winner - this feels more like a B rated movie, and not a good one at that.

Felt very inappropriate (although I know he was 19, it was just super awkward, borderline obnoxious - I was wincing through it), not funny, not endearing - just a bad movie with scenes that were beyond unrealistic. (Was shocked that Hasan Minhaj and The Bear's Richie made appearances - felt beneath their line of work as well?)

Do yourself a favour and skip this one. (Although she looked fantastic). Any other Jennifer Lawrence movie is by far a better choice - I know comedies are tough but this was awful.

Sebastian Maniscalco: Is It Me?
(2022)

It pains me say this about an A+ comedian...
I was so excited to sit down for the evening and watch this special as I have watched every special that Sebastian has put out - his work is AMAZING (you know the voice, gefilte fish amazing, lol)

Something here just didn't work - I am 45 minutes into the special and haven't laughed once. I would like to say I am exaggerating but I'm not.

Material wasn't funny, delivery was off or overdone, routine felt very out of sorts, a lot of anti pc points came across weird....

Didn't watch the rest. I know comedy is super hard but Sebastian set the bar high - this one just wasn't even close to his usual.

DONT TRUST THE BAD REVIEWS - this was really well done
First and foremost let's remember this is a Disney movie meant for kids and their parents - so any complaints of it "not having enough depth" is just complete nonsense. If that's what you're looking for, check out movies from TIFF, Sundance, etc

This movie is a live action of heroine our daughters loved, and the female director (love this fact alone!) took the opportunity to expand and modernize this heroine to heights she deserved - in my opinion, she knocked it out of the park.

My girls are now 15 and 18 and they loved this version - what more can Disney ask for???? I imagine is the best accolade to the director, cast and crew that one could ask when making a live action film from a classic loved movie.

BRAVO to female direction and BRAVO to Disney for more empowering messages to our girls. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood
(2019)

Only 2 stars because of acting and cinematography - would be 1 or less otherwise
If this movie was to be reviewed based on its storyline, it would be a 1. I am shocked that 2 brilliant actors thought enough of this snoozefest to star in it. (Make that 3 if you count Al Pacino - he is still one of the greatest of our time). I have loved previous Tarantino films and this one was definitely the most boring, most painful and most annoying as far as time lost. Save your money.

The Lion King
(2019)

I REALLY did keep an open mind...
This is by far and away one of my top movies of all time and definitely a movie that I can say the lines pretty much the whole way through.

After thinking about "what I was disappointed with", I would say the following:

1. The broadway voices of Nathan lane, Ernie sambella and Jeremy irons really added that punch to the characters that you "don't know that you're missing till it's gone". Here I feel these characters fall flat with the "less projecting voices" and it was very noticeable. Seth Rogan was the best, but still, the missing "broadway aspect" these voices carried made the movie fall flat where it just could have been cast better???

2. So many of the little humorous exchanges with the hyenas and with rafiki were taken away. Part of the magic of the lion king was in the humor which was lost in this film. They did try and compensate a little, but I feel the laughter was just not there. Whoopi goldberg and cheech Marin were comedians, why was this not explored more to bring new comedians in for the hyenas roles?

Without the booming voices and humour, you realize that the movie is lacklustre where you are left with the story and the cinematography only. The cinematography is fantastic and I know this is a super hard movie to live up to the original, but I feel a lot of the magic that make this movie "a whole package" was just not there.

Did not feel the same about Aladdin remake - another movie that was with huge shoes to fill (duh, robin williams) and the Aladdin remake was absolutely fantastic.

Movie was as good or better than Taken
Vigilante badass movie for the sake of your daughter - this movie was entertaining and I enjoyed it way more than I thought. Jennifer Garner was awesome and totally badass for sure, nicr to see this role for a woman rather than a man.

Blockers
(2018)

WAY better than I thought it would be....
John cena was really good in this role. I was expecting to find it passable (comedies are hard) and I felt I hadn't laughed like that at a comedy in forever.

Well done. Got my husband to watch it and I laughed again the second time.

Applaud the all girl 40 something film - but not worth the time
I was really looking forward to this gloms release. Sad to say that this film missed the mark in a large way - I couldn't even remember the characters names which says a lot about character development. Nor did I have any feelings toward any of them - the story depth just wasn't there.

There were funny moments but they were very few and far between. The rest of the film just didn't stand up to how talented these ladies are.

Bohemian Rhapsody
(2018)

Hand Rami Malek the Oscar already
Ignore critics - this film was really good and entertaining (especially if you are a Queen fan and even if you arent) with absolute stellar acting by Rami Malek.

He won an Emmy a while back for Mr Robot against heavy hitting actors (Kevin Spacey, etc) which made me take notice and watch the show. I was blown away. When he got cast for this movie, I said "this guy will win an Oscar for this performance, he is THAT good of an actor". And of course this was before seeing any trailers...

I stand by my prediction 😉👍🏻
