Kfulim
(2015)

All of the 3 seasons are good
It's a rate exception that a series wouldn't disintegrate into some sort of a soap opera/cheesy degenerate episodes even after couple of seasons (another show like that is Fauda), in Kfulim what you got in the 1st season is more of lees what you'll get in the next seasons. The variation that was was the good kind- so you don't get the same narrative with more or less the same storyline (which is what happens in Fauda- it's exactly the same season over and over just with different terrorists that are being killed).

I didn't give it the full marks as some of the endings are a bit artificial, some plot lines don't make much sense and in the last season once you learn what was the objective of the bad guys it's really unrealistic, other then that pretty solid.

Maestro

A wanabe
This whole movie smells of trying so hard to be a good movie without actually doing it, makes for a very annoying watch. It's like watching Zombieland 2 where they knew they did something well in the 1st one but they don't have the touch anymore so they just repeat similar scenes and make it visually the same as the 1st movie but it misses the mark by a mile. Here they must've watched some good dramas, they had an interesting story in their hands but it's cheesy, boring and flat as their artistic abilities.

In the end it's just a B movie about some bohemian people who enjoy their lives and have their little dramas. Had to drop it before the end of the 1st hour, was too boring.

Dallas Buyers Club
(2013)

Super interesting
I love how the first half an hour McConaughey is shown as the usual hillbilly that no one will be too sad to see free his space to something better in this world but after that Ron manages to become a sophisticated patient who revolutionized the treatment for AIDS patients in the USA while most of the bureaucracy of stuck up old white males doing everything they can to not help them because that's what 'mericans doing best- hating everyone who's not exactly like them while preaching that they're doing gods work (must've looked eerie similarly while they were mass killing Indians while shouting about jesus's love for 'em all)

La dolce vita
(1960)

tests your patience
As i've decided to add to my historical knowledge of old & classical movies this wasn't a very successful foray. For some reason i really don't connect to Italian movies (except Tarkovsky's Nostalgia). Somehow Italians are way into visuals and way less about substance. It was the same case here, it was filmed very well but there was no real substance to it (maybe it was very interesting back in the day but for it to be still considered a classis it should have some everlasting message that i haven't found here) the protagonist is going between high end parties and i have to tell you it's as boring as if it was done by Hollywood today.

Cool Hand Luke
(1967)

Well done movie
The movie manages not to fall into clichés too often (or very rarely at all). As i love people who are outsiders this is a bang on movie for me. Luke is the perfect outsider- he flourishes in intense situations (like war) but isn't suited for the 'boring' day to day life. And that brings him to jail for some very fun night activities. Jail as we all know isn't the best place for someone who can't follow a routine and Luke manages to dig himself a hole (pun intended) deeper and deeper as the movie progress. But in the end Luke's goal wasn't to get out of the jail, his goal was to have fun and make fun of the guards so in that he damn well succeeded.

Fortitude
(2015)

good series very annoying ending (season 1)
So the whole 12 episodes out of the 13 of the 1st season were pretty damn solid- there was action (albeit a bit too much to such a remote location), the stories were making sense (for about 90%) and there were many things going on so it wasn't boring or arduous. Also loved it that they didn't drag the series for their 10 episodes but the # of the episodes was as much as the story needed.

Unfortunately the last episode managed to mess up many things. (spoilers ahead) Killing small insects with explosion is a really poor choice, realizing that all of this was because of these insects in such a short time frame was unrealistic, lots of cheese stuff between the mayor & her hubby and few other things.

Une affaire de goût
(2000)

cool idea with an ok implementation
The idea of the movie itself is very cool (the rich guy is hiring someone so he can annoy the hell out of him so he'll be pissed enough to kill him as we later learn that he was on the verge of suicide anyways).

The implementations is lacking- there's no full buildup to lead to the murder, some of the scenes aren't making real sense etc.

When I've watched the movie i thought that it was way older than when it was filmed at 2000 which isn't bad- just makes you feel like the movie was done in late 80's or early 90's.

All in all a good movie that if it'll get a remake by a good director would be a blast.

Age of Tanks
(2017)

Good 4 episodes with big holes in the last episode's armor
The first 3 episodes were very good and descried the selected times/battles very well. I liked how they've constructed the.

The main problem through the whole series is the translation- the Eng audio and the subtitles don't match which can be very confusing. Since i know Russian and Hebrew i saw many mistakes in the translation that was given from these languages as well.

The biggest miss is the last episode. They keep telling how the tank has no role concentrating on some small (or ill prepared) examples- Baghdad in 2002 & Grozny in 1999 but completely ignore the Israeli experience that is continuedly fighting with their tanks almost daily. Also in the end when they say how the Russians have invented a system that shoots at an incoming threat in 2015 when the Israeli army has already incorporated a system that does the same function back in 2011 (operational, not just on the Russian paper).

From the neglect of the Israeli experience from the last 30 years which is the most prevalent currently & the incorrect name of the holyday that they've told about the Yom Kippur war i do tend to think that like most French the creators of this documentary are anti-Semitic in their nature, which is a shame but this kind of thing is everywhere (even in 'enlightened EU).

Great acting
I found that since it's a short movie & the director doesn't have a lot of time to do too many things that i'd risk to watch a full movie if he'd ever do one.

The story itself just presents how lawlessness (in 1 form) is encouraged in Russia but what really makes the movie is Sergei & the girl at the 'party' their acting is just superb.

Zhizn i priklyucheniya Mishki Yaponchika
(2011)

A strong start that goes downhill very fast
I'll start with the good: The very 1st episode is fantastic- the phrases that used there are so witty and often that it can almost take another viewing to realize all the jargon of Odessa of that time. Also the 1st episode is full of action, we're introduced to the characters and the story line flows.

Now the bad: From the 2nd episode onward the witty phrases become scares as lizards on snow, if you'll spot 3 in an episode it'll be fortunate.

Then we're constantly being dragged to a cabaret that takes about 10-15 minutes of each episode where we see women dancing. It's not porn and the dance isn't too good to fascinate with their choreography so after the 2nd episode it's just becomes boring and annoying The story line itself becomes full of holes as a yellow cheese. At some point we understand that Mishka became an important mobster in Odessa but except him and his 2 childhood friends we're barely introduced into the whole organizations that he has, what happens there, how it grows etc, just a whole in the plot that a bus can drive through.

Overall i'd suggest to see the 1st episode and if you liked it go read any of the books that Babel wrote- he has a character based on Mishka and his books are full of the witty phrases that are so enjoyable.

Seaspiracy
(2021)

The main cause of polution
This movie is good at showing that instead of cutting on on straws & plastic bags we should combat the main problem- unregulated fishing and the whole greenwash industry around it that lets 'environmentalist' eat fish with bamboo cutlery with a clear conscience. The fishing industry is unregulated, often lawless, already had brought many species to the brink of extension but keeps telling everyone that it's what Fishermen do, well if we won't eat their fish they won't need to do that, right? No need to catch 50% bycatch & throw them dead back, no need to destroy the ocean floor, no need to cause extension of sharks just so some Chinese will show their stupid status and no need to pollute the whole ocean with their nets. But the fishing industry isn't stupid, just like with cigarettes & more recently oil they'll keep investing in 'think tanks' that will create meaningless labels to say that this fish is fished sustainably when even the organizations that certify that say that they aren't. Most of the informed people stopped smoking, many are reducing their car drives and now is the time to stop eating fish so we won't destroy our planet.

David and Goliath
(2010)

touching movie
The cinematography is great, actors are good and the story is very touching

Erdö
(2011)

left you wanting more
I liked the short but i think it wasn't enough, some shorts are good that they are shorts but this looks to me like a good beginning for a great film, maybe a pitch to some investors but not good to be a stand alone

The Legend of Beaver Dam
(2010)

cute short one but too musical for me
It's a cute short movie but i really don't like musicals.

I Love Luci
(2010)

Very cute short movie
The movie is charming in the very good way, not cheesy and portrays the people it shows (which aren't the very 'good' type in the common sense) in their full humanity

(2012)

Very well done movie for an armature film
One has to keep in mind that this movie was done by the director himself without any studio to back him up. It comes without saying that because there was such a minimal budget there are many areas for improvement but overall the movie is very well done. The main character plays perfectly, the storyline is good and the camera work is good (though a bit less time looking at rivers could have been better). There are several supporting actors who could've done a better job and couple of the dialogs aren't polished enough but i'd suggest that this director is a rough gem to be looking for

Get Out
(2017)

good movie
This isn't a real horror film & i say it in the most positive way. The movie is very well done, suspense is great, only problem is how weird the family is in the beginning- doesn't seem plausible enough. Otherwise great movie, solid play and good points about USA society in the present

Ekaterina
(2014)

soap opera
Was very disappointing, thought i'll learn more about that interesting period of time in Russia but instead got a soap opera (and of very low quality- not in filming but in dialogs, characters etc- writing) for 90% of time and some history parts for maybe 10% Also they keep showing ships in the ice on the rivers, i understand it makes the picture better but in real life that would destroy them

The Witcher
(2019)

Confused storylines with no spirit in them
As i did read 2 of the books of the author (& didn't like them too but thought the World he had created has a very good potential) I was looking forward to this series. It was a very big disappointment, only saw 2 episodes where they've presented several story lines that aren't connected and happened in different times (the training of Yennefer which happens way before as she'll become Gerald's lover, the fall of Corinth which happened many years ago, the meeting with the bard {why the hell we even need to listen to his annoying songs???} which is also happened before & is a really non important side story) and the current timeline with Gerald killing monsters, then deciding against killing people for the lesser evil but when he wakes up after making out with the girl he rushes back to the market to kill her with no explanation provided. But the worst part is that the world they've created doesn't hold a good spirit of Fantasy world, it''s not too sinister, or dark, or oppressing, it's just a confused array of characters running around with no porpoise in a World that isn't coherent Oh and lets not forget how they made the beautiful Elves into slightly ugly humans with elephant ears, I hope i'll be able to not see in the future how they portrayed the dwarfs

American Gods
(2017)

Popish hollow story
I've managed to watch only 3 episodes & then i really had enough, as many TV series/movies aimed for a large audience it's full of good camera work, special effects & people talking about nonsense with smart looks to make it sound smart but it's actually nothing, was very disappointed as heard good things about it

The Departed
(2006)

this movie is looooooonnnngggggg
Once there was a director who made very good movies and then i guess he ran out of ideas and instead just decided to do very long movies that keep going & going and doing little ripples here and there with some average twists but after 2 hours it's just damn too long!

Forks Over Knives
(2011)

Every time i want to eat meat i watch part of it
A great movie that combines the suffering of the animals that we eat to the colossal mechanism that the USA built to make this work and not let people know what's happening there (and not to pay for the damages that this industry does), like anything in the USA they take it to the extreme (from one end to make you eat things you shouldn't because these guys give politicians money to making a new mega industry of curing all the health problems that it creates)

Chwa
(2016)

Cute short movie
Watched it in a flight, very short, cute & funny movie, well worth seeing

Vertigo
(1958)

A surprise
I thought it'll be another old American movie that is boring but the movie is done very well, won't call it a masterpiece (maybe for that time) but a solid movie. The characters are well developed and played, the Hero is doing a great job and the plot will leave you in suspense

Top 10 Secrets and Mysteries
(2016)

Another series for Hillbilly's
If you want to get the info from each episode (and it's scares to begin with) just fast forward to each item (i did it for the interesting places in one of the episodes), other episodes are utterly stupid and hold no info whats so ever. Done for people who live under the rock and don't know anything (and apparently can't even look it up in Wiki. Someone said Trump? I'm sure he'd enjoy watching it)
