The Year of the Storm

  • We Will Never Forget You

A fascinating documentary that shows how the Republic of Croatia liberated a large part of its territory that was under occupation by Serbian forces.

Operation Storm (August 4 - August 7, 1995) was a large-scale military and police operation in which the Croatian Army and police liberated the occupied areas of the Republic of Croatia under the control of Serbian forces.

The operation returned the entire occupied territory to the Croatian constitutional and legal order, except for Eastern Slavonia. However, this and several subsequent victories of the Croatian Army created the conditions in which the process of peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube region began in January 1996.

Operation Storm, along with Operation Flash, was a key action that led to the end of the Homeland War. The operation liberated 10,400 square kilometres, or 18.4 percent of the total area of Croatia.

In the objective preparation for Operation Storm, HV forces - with the consent of the BiH authorities - carried out, in the months preceding the Storm, several consecutive operations in the territories of that neighbouring country.

Immediately after the Storm, the forces of the HV (Croatian Army) in cooperation with the HVO (Croatian Defense Council) and the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina continue offensive actions against the Bosnian Serb forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Operation Maestral and then Operation Southern Move) and come within reach of Banja Luka, and in a situation where the complete defeat of Serbian projects west of the river Drina threatens, a more permanent truce is concluded with international mediation.

That mediation, which was actually pressure from international authorities, will turn out to be a wrong decision, which was later admitted by some foreign officials from that era.

Many still consider Peter Galbraith to be the main culprit.

According to the testimony of various diplomats, it was he who threatened sanctions if the actions continued. Many today consider him to be to blame for the current state of affairs in today's Bosnia and Herzegovina, because they believe that because he stopped the advance of Croatian and Bosniak forces at that time, he enabled the creation of the so-called Republic of Srpska, an entity that practically enabled the Bosnian Serbs, despite their military defeat, to create a parastate within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the end, Peter Galbraith is largely responsible for this state of affairs. This just goes to show what damage short-sighted politicians can do.

Croatia eventually liberated its territory, became a member of the European Union and NATO. It defeated a much larger enemy and won its independence.

To the people who served in our Croatian army at that time, I can only say-thank you. We will never forget you.

  • Everything Makes Sense In The End

An interesting series that is definitely worth watching.

What is good are the characters, which are worked out down to the last detail. The casting is mostly very good, I would especially like to highlight Edward James Olmos in the role of Admiral William Adama, who played his role excellently.

The plot is interesting, and contains a lot of symbolism, and in the end it all makes sense.

The visuals are good, and as the show went on, they got better and better, and the plot got more and more interesting.

The relationships between the characters are carefully constructed and become more and more interesting and complicated over time. The characters are complex and interesting, and that is certainly the biggest asset of the series.

Of course, there are a few shortcomings, but actually very few, in general the series is very good.

What I didn't like was the directing style, in my opinion the so-called shaky camera makes every film or series look cheaper and less cinematic. I also didn't like the choice of "song", and I'm not talking about the credits.

Just to avoid spoilers, I won't give away anything from the plot, but anyone who watches the series will understand. But these are personal tastes, someone might like the song or the artist, I don't like either one. But despite that, the series is very good.

When you look at it all together, it makes a lot of sense, especially the ending.

If you follow the plot carefully, the ending won't really surprise you, everything was leading up to it. The symbolism is clear, and striking.

  • The Bondsman From Hell

Well, this looks like good old-fashioned entertainment.

The series is a fun combination of comedy, horror and action.

Kevin Bacon proved to be a good choice for this role, his appearance and persona suit the character he plays. An excellent choice for the role of Hub Halloran.

I've watched three episodes so far and I like the series, it's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.

So far there aren't any of the usual things that writers like to put in today's series, things that spoil the fun and bring us back to the real world. I hope it stays that way.

The special effects and makeup department did a great job, the masks are excellent and I especially like that they used practical effects, which always look better than CGI. There is some CGI, which is combined with practical effects, but here it looks good.

The other characters mostly seem interesting, and I would especially like to single out Damon Herriman as Lucky Callahan, who is hilarious. Beth Grant, who plays Kitty Halloran, Hub Halloran's mother, is also excellent.

So far, very entertaining and without unnecessary things we don't want to see. Let's hope it stays that way.
