Aladdin
(2019)

exuberant, alive, and completely entertaining
A jewel in Disney's animated crown, Aladdin is a true delight. Exuberant, alive, and completely entertaining, the adventure-fantasy combines a raucous sense of humor, iconic performances, and classical songs into a joyful blast of cinematic color. Aladdin is a exhilarating piece of work perfectly brought to life.

Geukhanjikeob
(2019)

very creative with sinister wit & intelligence
Extreme Job is a refreshing breather from reality and emotionally heavy content dominating the industry. Genuinely funny and entertaining- although utterly ridiuclous, the humour is well-executed with a charming ensemble cast. The characters, the direction, the climax, and the conflict come together flawlessly creating this unique film.

Pinocchio
(2014)

purity and innocence retained
Pinocchio is an intriguing, intelligently written and highly thought-provoking drama. The storyline was gripping, the characters felt very genuine and the performances were perfect. There was such commendable courage, unconditional love, and selflessness shown in this drama, this brought forth the emotions and conveyed the intensity of the moments spectacularly. A very intellectually engaging drama.

Five Feet Apart
(2019)

intense story of love & death
Five Feet Apart is an emotionally compelling and deeply poignant teen drama that borders on conventional melodramatic levels. One of the most wonderfully observed, elegantly directed & brutally heartbreaking films I've ever seen. Cole Sprouse & Haley Lu Richardson perform exceptionally. Cinematic drama at it's absolute finest.

Badigard
(2016)

a triumph
Bodyguard is tragic tale indeed. Ever so more poignant in the ever escalating tension Hatamkia creates. This masterpiece transcends itself into something a little different, something that has a great deal of emotional value, infused with action sequences and a tragedy that results in such a brutal finale, I was simply left gasping for air.

Beomjoidosi
(2017)

an impacting & distressing thriller
Yoon-sung Kang the master of tone strikes a beautifully haunting picture of paranoia and a horrifying portrait of delicate social commentary in The Outlaws. Ever so charismatic and charming with a stunning screenplay and outstanding performances from the entire cast. Yoon-sung's film is ever so relevant. It subconsciously strikes questionable fear into the void, beautifully executed with a dabble of stinging thriller.

Riverdale
(2017)

a deliciously enigmatic dismissive mystery drama
Riverdale is an electrifying and mysterious drama series. A blinding family drama with a incident that throws all their lives into chaos. A series with so many layers of depth and ideals. The performances are outstanding and overall has a wonderful balance. It's fantastic and engrossing.

Azar
(2017)

starts out promising but disappoints
Azar is an lifeless, underwhelming and forgettable bore. Never engaging, atmospheric or interesting to serve the audience a plausible scenario of tension and intrigue. The performances were dreadful and the cinematography unpleasant. Unwatchable.

Laibeu
(2018)

visually, aurally and emotionally stunning
Live is a fantastic drama, which is equally devastating and inspiring to watch. This is a very realistic drama, and it doesn't hold back to show the brutal realities of the police force. The direction is incredible, the character development is compelling and the acting is amazing. The storytelling was excellent, the overarching plots & story arcs as well as episodic conflicts were well paced. This drama truly gives you a new perspective of life.

a virtually unparalleled drama series
Prison Playbook is a character-driven human comedy, warmly written and bolstered by stellar acting performances. The drama expertly navigates its audience through its spot on comedy as well as powerfully heartfelt moments. The drama succeeds in delving into the characters & the beautiful & melancholic storyline. Serene and hopeful, Prison Playbook is a magnificent drama.

Now You See Me
(2013)

an unexpected find
Now You See Me does not possess depth, philosophy, and hidden messages, nor aspire to some sort of artistic value. This is an illusionist action movie, whose purpose is to entertain, and in that purpose, it succeeds. Although not comparable to the greatest cinematic achievements, this film is perfectly executed and directed, featuring exceptional performances from the cast. Totally mind-blowing.

Naruto: Shippûden
(2007)

enthralling, adventurous, emotional.
Naruto Shippuden is a transporting and utterly breathtaking experience. The depth of the characters and the dynamics between them is profoundly complex and emotional. The story-line is intense & engaging, and the payoff from witnessing these ever evolving plot points devolop and climax is incredible. The music is outstanding and the fights bloody and memorable. Be sure to avoid fillers, otherwise an absolute legend of a show.

Fallen
(2016)

pretentious misfire, just short of unwatchable
Mind numbingly predictable, plot holes and inconsistencies, Fallen is a pretentious misfire. The acting, screenplay, and pacing were intolerably bad. The characters were bland, sloppy direction, terrible editing and a rushed ending. Completely different from the books.

Rag-e Khab
(2017)

an astonishing rarity
Complex, intricate, moving and an absolute masterclass in the study of grey areas of life. Subdued achieves that incredibly flawless screenplay, Hamid Nematollah creates interesting yet flawed characters brought to life by an amazing cast. The story explores human relations, simple yet a completely compelling film.

Nafas
(2016)

an incredibly moving story seen through the eyes of a child
Breath is a harrowing and affecting film, propelled by an incredible performance from the young actress Sareh Nour Mousavi. This is Narges Abyar's finest, most passionate, and most accomplished work as a writer & director. The storyline has a great deal of refreshing and completely genuine authenticity that's immediately present from the very first scene. This brilliant film will leave you feeling broken, but it's a must see.

Seuwingkizeu
(2018)

brilliant showcase of a heartbreaking event
Swing Kids is a remarkable and unsettling fusion of brackets, philosophies and cultures. The impactful cinematography, the painstakingly choreographed tap dancing, and the hilarious sprinkles of visual humour that work so fantastically. It also flaunts the horrors of war and celebrates the pledge of freedom and collective suffering through friendship. Completely blown away.

Hiss Dokhtarha Faryad Nemizanand
(2013)

extremely frustrating, strangely personal, and deeply saddening
Hush.. Girls Don't Scream is a masterpiece of world cinema and one of the most challenging Iranian films I have ever seen. An emotionally shattering work that isn't afraid to honestly show the horrific side of life and critique the closed society & patriarchal institutions that oppress the people as well as how that oppression manifests in people. Pouran Derakhshandeh is a very brave filmmaker.

Black Swan
(2010)

taut and intense but also dynamic
Harrowing, alluring, and simply magnificent; Black Swan is one of the most aesthetic pieces of filmmaking. Combined with a deserving performance by Natalie Portman, fantastical direction by Aronofsky, mind-melting and horrific imagery, and a general theme instability; the entire film culminates in a work that can only be described as perfect.

Atash bas
(2006)

heartfelt but also unsentimental
Though the subject matter of Cease Fire is nothing new, Tahmineh Milani makes it seem fresh and vibrant by both visual and narrative means. Milani creates quite a bit of tension with the simple premise and povides yet another excellent glimpse into Iranian middle class society and the fragility of modern marriage. Small yet impactful.

Chaharshanbe-soori

The script contains some of the most infectious and infinitely quotable phrases ever. Iconic!

A visually stunning version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, a precious gem of a movie. The Great Gatsby portrays with great clarity and intelligence that real life is full of inherently compelling drama and suspense. The narrative is complex but focused, the pacing enhances the building tension of a developing moral conflict. The actors do brilliant subtle work, imbuing the script with authenticity and depth. A masterwork.

A marvel of world-class storytelling on business, friendships, social media, creativity, & how they all play the biggest roles in modern-day society.
