Sicario: Day of the Soldado
(2018)

A shallow sequel.
Sicario 2 isn't a bad film. In fact it's rather enjoyable, yet what brings it down isn't its lack of ingenuity, but instead its failure to even hold a candle to its fantastic original. Replacing the intense, slower and less momentous shootouts of the original with a drug fuelled rampage of action, it has the perceived look of the original but not the superior direction, which only leads it to its downfall. By itself its good, but as a sequel it only seeks to be shallow and unfulfilling. Strong 6, maybe a light 7.

Commando
(1985)

Pure fun
Without a doubt one of Arnies mid range 80s flicks. Nothing compared to the likes of the Terminator or Predator, yet manages to hold its own against the likes of the tedious Running Man. A plot as compelling as it is simple, yet with action as gloriously over the top as one could ask for from an 80s flick, Commando is the perfect testosterone fuelled, typical one liner 80s classic one could hope for. As exciting a it is violent, it promises a wild ride of pure charisma. Wonderful.

Jumanji: The Next Level
(2019)

Basic
Basic with little to offer, however it manages to provide an element of enjoyment and is easy to watch. Nothing to marvel at, just basic simple fun. Performances hold their own, yet the main issue is within the plot itself. Far too long and focuses on relationships between characters who lack the sustenance to even grant said relationship into a conceivable plot thread. Come for the action, stay for the action, simple as.

Homefront
(2013)

Wildly entertaining
Title says it all, a simple, old fashioned action flick with nothing new to contribute to the stagnated genre, yet manages to stand out purely for its immense satisfaction and enjoyment. An easy watch and guaranteed enjoyment.

Pain & Gain
(2013)

Ehhhh
Accompanied by all your typical Bayisms associated with the director, Pain and Gain is surprisingly bearable depending on your expectations. If you go in with the expectation of a roid fest then well buckle in... apart from that it's alright...

The Machinist
(2004)

A tried and true formula perfected in its most hollow nature.
The Machinist is not groundbreaking or different in anyway. It doesn't try to be. Instead the film manages to craft the formula so perfectly and with such aggressively hollow intent that it manages to stand on its own. Performances at their peak, imagery haunting and a colour palette grey enough to make Batman jealous. The Machinist is a well nuanced and wonderfully haunting film whose visual imagery is striking, plot stellar and performances which excel it above the rest within its genre. Not without its flaws however, The Machinist is a solid 7, light 8.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw
(2021)

Suffocating
I would be lying if I said that the idea of another saw film with a different, more socially substantial twist with relation to today's modern foreground wasn't intriguing. This with addition to its stellar cast, a more capital agenda in terms of its budget, and a wonderfully approachable new aesthetic, Spiral was set to entertain both new and old fans alike.

In spite of this, Spiral flusters and fails at being either of the genres it wants to be. It feels like a divorce of the genres of torture porn and high octane thriller and instead falls into the limbo of mediocrity. Why? The gore toned down enough to bore old fans, yet too much to entice newer fans. Story trying the same old formula that we were promised would be different, made even more sour by arguably the most intolerable plot twist of the series. All this is capped off by the nauseating pacing, which never fails to slow down yet it turn allows no room for the digestion of the plot and what is presented before us and a result suffocates the viewer, not allowing for the process of the scene before the next.

Albeit a fair few entertaining aspects, Chris Rock, the traps and the soundtrack, Spiral is a thorn in one's side as it remains as lackluster as the previous installments with the hefty addition of pure unadulterated disappointment dashed into the entertaining mess which is Spiral : From the Book of Saw.

Dead Island
(2011)

Filled with both pros and cons
Don't get me wrong hacking the undead to bits is undeniably fun however the game is hindered by various factors. First off when on the island the game is a joy to explore yet upon entering the city the game becomes a bit of a grind and boring. The game suffers from various hit detection problems for instance an enemy was stood in front of me and I was striking them with my machete and it was going through him with there being no response to this. However it's fun to explore and to play.

Christopher Robin
(2018)

One of the most watchable films ever...
It's just mind-blowing and the best thing about the film is that it stays true to what it is and depicts the characters in the modern world incredibly well. Any age can truly watch this and be entertained. The film is also an emotional roller-coaster while it isn't sad it is overwhelmingly happy and joyful and brings a tear to your eye

The Emoji Movie
(2017)

Greatest film that is surprisingly shi-
Wow... Just wow thanks a lot for this thing that is just SO SHI-what next the slender man film oh no wait...

BlacKkKlansman
(2018)

One of a kind....
I saw this at the first UK showing and it was a film that was thought provoking, funny, and combined with ideas that make it all to relevant to today. It's terrifying and memorable, and one of the best films of this year.... Please go see this it's superb in almost every aspect...

The Happening
(2008)

Not the worst...
The beginning act is honestly fairly good and there are multiple performances which didn't make me question WTF I was watching. It had a decent buildup yet failed to execute in every way. Every suicide we see is fake looking and honestly embarrassing. Yet the concept is intriguing yet is bogged down by clichés of all manners with a ridiculous plot point about the plants and communication it just bores and loses you. Yet it's entertaining and if you're bored give it a go with some parts being downright hilarious. Such as the zookeeper being torn apart and the building site.
