Der Baader Meinhof Komplex
(2008)

guns and cigarettes
a few words in advance,

never could a movie dealing with the RAF reach a high average vote and lead to a general approval. It simply depends on the different emotions according to this topic. Don't forget that some 35 years ago there existed an unbelievable high support among young people for the terroristic organization whereas the majority looked with disgust at the murderers.

So watching this movie is simply not more than a check whether the director catches the already existing attitude towards this controversial topic. In my eyes, the optimal way to direct this movie would have to treat it like a partly documentary with many original television scenes connected with the presentation of the characters. What I was interested in was whether this movie is able to place the viewer inside the plot, whether one could feel the atmosphere of this extreme period of German history and whether the presented scenes are consistent with the documents one had seen in television reports before. The movie has definitely come up to my expectations. The characters are just brilliant. It is some of the best German work of acting I have ever seen, every single scenes is so consistent with the picture one has in mind. Almost nothing stays from the line of the real development. The only thing I criticize is the selection of scenes. Maybe, the killers are given to much space to call out their misplaced ideology but neither is their behavior justified nor is any sympathy given to them. There doesn't exist any scope for interpretation about who was right and who was wrong. Furthermore, a few more words could have been given to the victims of the RAF whose assassinations are presented very precisely.

All in all, it is a shocking but good movie.

Conte d'été
(1996)

so brilliant,..... this is pure life
Conte d'été is just a great movie because it reflects how life is instead of demonstrating how it should or could be. There's absolutely nothing happening that makes you wonder: "What the hell is going on now" It could be the real holiday story somebody tells his good friends. It's so brilliantly realistic almost like a documentary movie. However, this doesn't mean there is no interesting plot. It's just pure life, there are real dialogues not this awful kind of small talks and pseudo intellectual nonsense which we know too good from Hollywood movies. Also the director has a feeling for significant details. The music scenes are just great and the landscape is just wonderful. Now I think I have to discover the Bretagne myself.... Some may criticize that the protagonists seem so helpless and remain unsatisfied during the plot but as I said, this movie demonstrates how life is and not how it should be. This is a very important difference. Of course the end is somehow unsatisfying but this is life and from some point of view it's a happy ending, too. Apart from that, it's not correct calling Gaspard a dull person as many did. He's shy and he's an artist. He doesn't like to be in a group and so on. But his character which lead to this unusual behaviour makes him so interesting. He is not showing emotions very often but in every moment you can imagine he is in an inner struggle.

Elementarteilchen
(2006)

you should try this one
only if you are able to deal with its strong topic. It's about the meaninglessness of being depressed in an unsatisfying environment built up by oneself. Two brothers Michael and Bruno grow up with different characters and backgrounds. What keeps them together is the inability to create a stable life on their own what can be predominantly deduced on a lack of mother love or interest. I don't want to go into detail or present any spoilers. Therefor check out other reviews. What I really appreciate is the surprisingly good work of all actors who do great in this movie. Especcially Christian Ulmen (who needs little words to say a lot)knows how to present Michael's character so perfectly that it's really a pleasure to watch him on the screen. I also like the development of the plot. You don't know how the characters will develop and how their story will end. Both brothers are not changing in big steps within the movie but in the end you are surprised how far they have drifted from each other.

Just watch it yourself to make your own opinion but please don't expect it to be to entertaining.

Jacknife
(1989)

this movie was needed...
Even 15 years after the end of the Vietnam war "Jacknife" came not too late or was even superfluous. It's one of the few that try to deal with the second sad side of the war: The time after. Different from movies like "Taxi driver" or "Rambo" which use to present their main characters as broken heroes in a bad after war environment this movie allows the audience to face a different view on the Vietnam vets. Their development is shown very precisely before and especially after the war. The problems are obvious but in all this tragic there is always the feeling of some hope on the basis of love and friendship. "Jacknife" might be the quietest Vietnam movie ever but after almost 15 years this is really plausible and therefor justified. Moreover, it can make us believe that the war has not finished, yet; at least for some of us.

The three main characters are amazing. De Niro has done one of his best jobs but Ed Harris is the star of this movie. Possibly, this was his best performance ever.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
(2002)

Well, I don't like Cloney as an actor, but...
...this movie rocks !!! you will feel surprised from the first second on. The story seems to be absurd for a few whiles during the film, but all in all it doesn't matter and just keep in mind: It's basically a true story. The movie consists of good and very amazing and inspiring scenes. You won't feel bored from the beginning. This is what I like so much according to this one. Every part is somehow different. Of cause, everything is connected to Chuck Barris and his relationship towards other characters but the mixture of showbiz and CIA is so enormously extraordinary that it's really honorable that Cloney managed to combines it as it is seen in this movie. It's really sad that CODM doesn't face the respect it deserves. I am sure if the director's name wasn't Cloney most critics would appreciate it much more but who cares about that.

I really like it and recommend it to anyone who is interested in good and interesting film-making

King Kong
(2005)

Peter Jackson is a bad director
Oh my god

How is this possible? You have millions of Dollars to direct a movie and you are still able to make such a crap. When your name is Peter Jackson I think it's no problem. I mean this movie is ridiculous and even for typical mainstream watchers who care much about special effects, action and childish dialogs "King Kong" should be a disappointment. OK, the effects are mostly (not always) brilliant and 1930th New York was almost perfectly rebuilt but this is the only part of the movie I can appreciate. The rest is just stupid. The best actor in this movie was Kong himself (no joke) because he was not speaking at all. But what is even worse than the awful actors is the whole script (which could have been written by a 5 year old child who has recently seen Jurassic Park, King Kong and Lord of the rings and now tries to combine them. An intelligent person would correctly say: This is impossible, but Peter Jackson seem to think differently. Anyway, there are so many moments which are just unbelievable foolish. To compensate all the mistakes of the plot Jackson (like in all his movies) tries to satisfy the viewer with scary, bloody slaughter. There is not a moment of suspense in this movie which is not based on the appearance of a typical "evil" creature(like dinosaurs, spiders, natives..). Further, the story lines are interrupted quiet often and prolonged, (especially in the beginning) what is just boring. In the middle, it's often impossible to follow the scenes because many explanations are just not made: Where have all the Indians gone; how did the crew manage to find a calm place for their ship and so on.

The movie is so full of unnecessary scenes that it just seem to be too short for Jackson to present the plot in 3 HOURS more seriously.

Sorry but this work cannot impress me much

The Vanishing
(1993)

why always comparing ?
Sorry, sorry, sorry...

this goes out to all who are P***** of by this movie and wrote their opinion by giving it an 1 or a 2. I have also seen the original and like it very much, however I totally disagree calling the American version as pure s***. I think The Vanishing is as good as the original or even better, especially Jeff Bridges as Barney is incredible which alone makes it worth to watch this movie. And there are quiet many people who agree to me and think that this a good thriller, for sure not perfect but very exciting, all in all intelligent and interesting. To those of you who permanently try to compare it to "Spoorlos" and who seem to be so disappointed I can only say, what did you expect? How could George Sluizer make you feel satisfied when he directed "The Vanishing" in 1993? I would agree; it's a typical Hollywood thriller but it's a good one; if you tried to regard it more individually I would suppose you to agree. I mean I only think it's a pity that those who haven't seen this movie and might be interested to watch it get such an underrated opinion of it just because some of you are showing their personal disgust to Hollywood remakes in a such a low way. I also use to enjoy Europeen cinema very much. Generally prefer it to so called blockbusters from Hollywood. But this remake is great and deserves a better vote. I give it a 9 and at least some of those who watched this movie should agree. Everyone who is able to comment movies without prejudices should be able to diversify "The Vanishing" from real crap giving it at least a 5 or a 6 even if he or she doesn't like it so very much.

23 - Nichts ist so wie es scheint
(1998)

great ..... worth to watch I promise
In Fact, there are quiet many German movies which have brought the evidence to establish themselves as classics. In general these movies are dramas or comedies and very often they provide the viewer with historical informations of a certain time and area. However, what is often missing is suspense. Allhough German television is full of good crime stories and thrillers this Genre is hardly found in German cinema.

At least this is one reason why I like this movie so much. 23 allows to enter the mind of a burnt out, intelligent but unloved son, who tried to break out of his boring life by rebelling against his dominant father and the establishment of the mid 80th. Where as his protest uses to be more like coming out of a group behavior which is based on ideals his intention during the movie changes completely and ends up in a computer spy environment heavily connected with a continuous downward development of his mental and physical condition.

In one sentence: This movie is one of those that shouldn't end because you want to know more about everything, the whole thing, so deep you will place yourself into the plot and you don't want to leave it. 23 changed my life. Afterwards, I had another opinion about reality.

Check it out yourself, I extremely recommend this movies
