Madness in the Fast Lane
(2010)

More shocking than fiction....
What you are about to see is more shocking than fiction. I cannot imagine an screenwriter being able to write such an amazing an twisted plot. This story is even more amazing because it has original footage from the real events. From the very first seconds you are immersed into this real life road movie of two Swedish women traveling in UK with strange purpose. The documentary is fast paced and from the beginning blows up in your face when police arrive to a highway for what they believe is an accident involving the two women and multiple cars. It just gets more twisted when the "victims" of the accident become violent and literally throw themselves into the passing cars. This is just the beginning.......

Yugoslavia: The Avoidable War
(1999)

Now all makes sense.
Even being a heavy reader of history and politics, the war in Yugoslavia still didn't make too much sense too me. After this documentary all makes sense. Germany had an obsessive desire to rip apart this country. For me even now seems so unthinkable that Madeleine Albright and William Clinton could be so biased and so one sided, specially because Albright is Czechoslovakian so she know Slavic and German history and interests. But without doubts it seems clear enough now that the real power in the United States do not resides on the puppet in turn but on an elite highly stable, spread all over the ranks of the U.S. bureaucracy. Media is the king and once its said on one or two of the world top media outlets then it's sacred truth. The media consensus has to follow, and if you are a reporter that disagrees you risk your whole career for not following the horde. Its a pity that the International Criminal Court is a kangaroo court. After this documentary I was convinced. My suspicions started when the ICC charged Gaddafi for giving viagra to his soldiers so they could rape more women. Raped were all the Serbians and minorities that were left in Kosovo to be "taken care" by the United Nations Mission on Kosovo and the criminal KLA. But as history is always written one sided, nobody is going to indict Helmut Kohl and Hans-Dietrich Genscher for their role in igniting the war and all the atrocities that came after.

Nanjing! Nanjing!
(2009)

The film makes you feel you are at the spot
One of the best war films I ever seen. Being a Chinese film is amazingly balanced. Its very difficult to maintain neutrality confronted with such a savage and cruel event. Nanjing! Nanjing! is absorbing and the black and white photography is superb. During the film you can watch how the inner forces of each character unfold. Some bring the evil within some the love and compassion within. War bring up the worst and the best of people. As Psychologist Phillip Zimbardo states; everybody has the potential to be evil given the right conditions. The film encourages us deeply to value life. As one of the Japanese characters says in the movie: "Life is more difficult than death."

Los indolentes
(1979)

The best movie from Luis Estrada
Los Indolentes depicts the story of a once rich family of land owners (hacendados) which after being affected by a land reform fall in a downward spiral of self denial, indolence and economical crisis.

Saw it once long time ago on TV in Mexico. The film has such power that the images and behavioral psychology of the main characters persist in my memories even today. The images are mystical such as the ones from Pedro Paramo. The screenplay is sharp and deep in the way it depicts human behavior. Many people that I know present the biased rationality that the lead characters display on this film. The story can draw parallels with the whole psyche of the Mexican society; the believe of having a glorious past (real or imaginary), doomed by external forces, which in turn lead the people to apathy, inaction, low self-esteem, wishful thinking and ultimately to self-destruction. A great film to see, enjoy and study from.

Wonderland
(2003)

Great Movie. One of my favorites ever
Val Kilmer and Dylan McDermott are terrific. I have seen Kilmer on The Doors, however his interpretation of John Holmes is superb. Nothing compared to Boogie Nights which was kind of slow. Wonderland is a movie which is able to show you a horrible crime story from the perspective from a guy who is just indulged in his drug vice and indolent of what ever happens around. At the same time, the John Holmes character shows a very clever hustler who is able to pass through the nastiest and ugliest situations almost unharmed. The movie deserves being watched more than once. The seventies ambiance sensual and full of drugs is amazing.

Shottas
(2002)

Low Budget, but the movie is clearly above the Hollywood waste.
I read that the movie is very bad. I don't agree. Some scenes are filmed like soap-opera but in general the movie avoids all the clichés from the Hollywood films. I recently saw Miami Vice from Michael Mann and I hated it. For Hollywood there are only good guys and bad guys. Just that, nothing in between. Instead in Shottas shows you exactly how gangsters are created. Created by imitation. Dreaming of a nice life that will never come. Music score is very good and Marley is good even he is not a real pro-actor. Some of the gangsters look like if they were taken from the real shanty-towns of Kingston. That is good. Shows authenticity.

Las amantes del señor de la noche
(1986)

Isela Vega on her debut as director
This is a good movie by many reasons. The movie is about witchcraft and a passion thriller around it. It was written by a very known Mexican writer Hugo Argüelles in conjunction with Vega herself. Great actors appear in the movie including Emilio "indio" Fernandez and the always enigmatic Irma Serrano who is already celebrity of its own. This film passed unnoticed in Mexico, where I saw it. In part thanks to the lousy distribution system of that time, which used to privilege the foreign movies. Nowdays there are no longer Mexican movies so the distributors no longer have the concern of programming Mexican movies. I personally believe the movie could had turn into a cult movie. It has a good plot, good intentions, interesting actors and low budget.
