The Busch Family Brewed
(2020)

It's Decent
I really was not sure what I was getting into watching this show.

I'm from St. Louis, so the prospect was just more out of curiousity.

This was actually pretty decent. I do think that it was placed on the wrong TV Network. Hallmark or Lifetime would have been a better fit for this.

The Busch family had some odd details in the news a few years back. I remember that one of the brothers was accused of murdering someone and the plant's relocation to a new company was a big deal.

The filming took place quite a ways from St. Louis. They're so rich that they're mostly traveling around to different places. But it was good to see them in St. Louis.

The only storyline I thought that was alittle odd was the oldest son getting married to lady who wants him for his money.

I'm like wtf? I don't think anybody in that suitation would want to marry into that family for just the money.

I remember that blonde kid seemed like he was really spoiled and alittle immature, but this is some time back. The dad seemed like a serious buisness and his wife seemed very cool and calm.

The show would have done better on a network like LifeTime or Hallmark. MTV and a channel like BRAVO-would be a no no for this!

LUV
(2012)

A surprise!
I expected this film to be entirely different based off of the title cover and the description. It was really good. Common plays a father figure to Mikael Phiper(?). This movie does a good job at tackling complex issues in a tough economy. Especially if one only knows a jail lifestyle. The scenery was very interesting to look at, if you're not familiar with Baltimore. Fish and Danny Glover play old foes to Common's character. He wears an executive suit while driving a brand new Mercedes Benz. But they live in a slum house.. I kind of get the visual symbolism through it.Although it was a bit cheesy. The lengths he goes through to bond with his nephew while while battling Baltimore's banks and gangs are pretty interesting. It's worth a look.

A Genius Leaves the Hood: The Unauthorized Story of Jay Z
(2014)

Interesting take on Jay-Z
This is a very well put together documentary on the life of Jay-Z. It talks about his rise through the "Mercy" Homes to him battling against other music rappers like Dame Dash and Camron on who will control their record label. I remember most of these artists were super huge at the time. The only thing I didn't care for were the djs, reporters, and music executives interviewed. It seems like these "friends" are critical and bashing him. I don't think any one person can be that "evil". I just think people change and grow up. I do think they should give him more credit on how he's been about to use his success into other business that may be closed off to young black men.

The Loft
(2014)

Better than Expected
I didn't go into watching this with a high expectation. I was pleasantly surprised at how intriguing the plot was. It's basically 5 married friends who share a loft. The way it works is the all have a single key and text one another when they need to use it. A mysterious prostitute shows up throughout the movie, and it confuses the viewer a bit. Is she with James Marsden or his friend the overweight sloppy drunk? Even the rich building owner may have something to do with this prostitute. The jumps in the timeline are a bit confusing. You have to watch it until the very end to get the main plot. Overall it's a good action thriller if you're into the genre. I'd give it a shot for a rainy night. It's decent.

The Killer Speaks
(2012)

Very Good Series
I finished this in a weekend. This is a very interesting take on showing different murder cases. You get to see the method behind the madness. Some cases make you feel sorry for the person, like the mentally disturbed man in Montana. While others make you shake you head like the young man that brutally killed his ex girlfriend. One case that was very odd was the cold case solved 25 years later. The guy "felt" sorry what he did. He was already in prison for robbery. Hearing the doctors, lawyers, and reporters analyze the killer's interview also brings in a new, fresh perspective on how each case was crazy to do. If you're into crime or any documentaries you'll love this. Give it a chance!

Blindspot
(2015)

Decent Show
This show is good. I think it would be much better if it were on a service like Netflix or Hulu. Watching each episode from week to week is a bit draining, but the pilot was very strong. So I continued on with this. The story line is pretty simple. A woman named Jane Doe is dropped in the middle of New York City, and the FBI isn't sure why she is there. So far they've left bits and pieces of where she came from. Her tattoos help her solve the cases for the FBI. Her boss Mayfair is straddling the fence between doing illegal things with her unit. Which is the most interesting part of the show. I'm not sure where this is going, but it's a nice alternative to The Blacklist. The issue for me is The Blacklist is still going strong on it's plot. I would suggest for a weekend watch to keep up on Hulu or Netflix.

Limitless
(2015)

Great Show
This show really took me by surprise. I decided to start a few new fall shows but wound up sticking with two only. I started to look forward to this every week. This show's pretty good. I heard a lot of chatter about this after watching the Dexter series. It really has the same feel and humor at times which really makes this work. Jake is a 28 year old college dropout who happens to be given a magic pill (N.Z.T.) and he's told he'll work for the FBI. Jennifer Carpenter and Desmond Harrington do a great job reprising their roles as a detective couple..ah Dexter memories. Hill Harper (FBI Agent) and Bradley Cooper (Senator) have memorable roles also. The cases can be generic but I really enjoyed the terrorist in the woods case and Nantz's daughter (FBI Director) being taken hostage by pirates. Give this a shot. It's really well put together.

CSI: Cyber
(2015)

Not that Good
I'm not going to lie. They built a lot of hype about this show and on blogs. I decided to give it a try while traveling since most of season 1 is free. You can find it on a lot of platforms. I really thought this was the worst of any franchise of a CSI/Crime type show. It doesn't delve too deep and really falls flat at times. I was shocked since I've really enjoyed Patricia Arquette and Bow Wow in other movies and shows. I periodically caught up over the summer. And Season 1's finale is decent. I just wish they had stronger crime story lines or ones that were believable. The gist is Avery Ryan plays a technology psychologist and she recruits Bow Wow from jail (as the young tech guy) to help her solve cases. The other tech guy, more stout w/ glasses, has his parents murdered and he confronts the murderer throughout the season. Hopefully they expand on that in season 2. I do think it'll get better based off of how they're placing season 2.

Between
(2015)

Better than expected
This show's really good if you're not looking for anything too heavy. I really enjoyed the pilot, but by the season finale it jumps the shark a bit. Janette McCurdy plays a pregnant minister's daughter in the town of Pretty Lake. An illness creeps in the town killing everyone over the age of 22. Which I thought was a bit cheesy. The government traps the town with a giant dome sort of like Wayward Pines or any sci-fi film. The kids try to escape. You got introduced to the poor kids, amish, and rich football players trying to figure out a town system of how to reward and punish everyone in the town. I did like the friction between the different groups and their status in town. That's going to be interesting to watch in season 2. Give it a try. I think you'll really enjoy this.

Million Dollar Listing New York
(2012)

Good Show
I really enjoy the Million Dollar Listing series. I'm surprised I keep coming back. It's interesting to see high price real estate and the brokers that deal with them. I'm not a big fan of San Francisco or Miami, but I do enjoy L.A. and N.Y. This is my favorite of the franchise. I'm not going to lie, it does seem over the top and semi-scripted. But it is enjoyable. Frederick Van Ecklund, Ryan, and Luis make for an interesting dynamic on who's going to be the top agent in NYC. Frederick and Ryan deal w/ relationship issues while Luis deals with more of an age battle when it comes to selling real estate. Essentially Frederick and Ryan get into an occasional fight (a little physical). But for me the over the top sellers are what get me. I think you'll enjoy this show if you don't take it too seriously.

Zoo
(2015)

It has it's Ups and Downs
This show definitely strays away from the book in a lot of ways. The book wasn't the best, but this TV show is a little bit better. The gist of the plot is that animals communicate with each other to take over the world. In the book I thought Mitch and Jamie mostly do the investigating and finding out about the evil Radon corporation. It was also mostly set in NYC. The show's way different bringing in a team sort of like CSI or NCIS to solve the animal communication issue. Jet setting all over the world to find out what's going on. Some episodes are good...others not so much. It's so-so for summer TV. They kind of started off with the African desert scene (tigers mauling everyone). That was the best part and towards the end.

Power
(2014)

Good Surprise
I've seen 50 Cent in a few movies and was pleasantly surprised at how well they were made. This television series produced by him does not disappoint. My whole family loved it. Although it can be a bit graphic. James St. Patrick, Tommy, and his wife Tasha are involved in a nightclub business but deal drugs on the side. They're high class. So It's interesting to see how other Millionaires like Stern try to take over and destroy their business. Lobos and other drug dealers sort of take lines from Sons and The Wire and focus on Ghost trying to stay afloat. The other interesting character is Angela Valdez. An FBI Agent who's in love with Ghost but doesn't know what to do with him. I'm always shouting, what is Angela thinking. She's going to turn on him sometime. Of course Tasha and the family hate this. So it'll be interesting to see where this goes. If you like Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, or Boardwalk you'll love this!

The Good Wife
(2009)

Very Good
This series caught me on netflix a few years back. Season 1 and this past season are pretty similar. Anyway this series is a pretty good look at the Chicago machine of politics. Alicia decides to reenter the work force after her husband the governor is caught in a cheating affair. That's really a minor part of the series. Most of it deals with Alicia's law firm Florrick Argos solving different court cases. The two that come to mind are the terrorist plot of bombing a college campus and Colin Sweeny's involvement with a potential murder. The series seems like it's winding up now. Two of the main characters died, and Alicia is moving on her own as a lawyer. It's part drama, but mostly it tackles with criminal and social issues. This is definiately great show to watch weekly.

Empire
(2015)

Quite Good
Wow! This is one of the better series I've seen this summer. I decided to wait and binge watch it. I knew it was good when it was finished in a few days. This show's pretty good at not extending plot lines out, and at times, cuts right to the chase. Cookie and Luscious Lyon own Empire Records. The only catch is that Cookie essentially took the fall for her ex and she comes to reclaim her thrown. She encounters that all three of her sons have their own issues. The taking over of the record label wasn't as big of a deal in season 1 as people said it would be. There's also interesting crime drama that comes along with it. I'm not a fan of all the singing, but I would describe this as a mix of Sons of Anarchy with MTV News. Give it a shot. It's pretty good.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
(2015)

Watched in a day, It was great!
This comedy starts off pretty good, but gets better in the season finale. Kimmy Schdmitt stars as captive Indiana Mole Woman. Her captor, John Hamm, does an hilarious job portraying the delusional preacher. Kimmy goes off to New York City where she winds up working for Jacqueline Vorhees. A stuck up, but lovable Manhattan wife of the wealthy. Her daughter Xanhippie gives Kimmy trouble from time to time, but their relationship is hilarious. Kimmy rooms with Titus (who's always singing a Broadway tune) and Lillian the landlord who goes bonkers for no reason. If you're fan of any of the recent NBC comedies or SNL. You're going to get a kick of this show. Think 30 Rock, Community, The Office, etc.

Aquarius
(2015)

Really Good!
This is a pretty interesting series. It shows different aspects of the late 60's and issues that plagued L.A. I really enjoy the dialogue between Charlie Manson trying to make his stake in L.A. His lawyer's back story will be interesting to see how he turns out. I also don't think the wife has the family's best interest at heart. David Duchoviny's doing a great job as the lead detective. I didn't think this would pan out to be to appealing, but I was wrong. It's well shot and the acting is great. The whole series is very easy to watch and catch up on as a mini series. I don't really see this lasting beyond a few years. Give it a try. Even if it might take a while. I'm definitely checking out the X-Files now!

The Immigrant
(2013)

Decent Film
This is a great period piece! Really enjoyed the editing and the way it was shot. Joaquin Phoenix did a really good job as playing the pimp or slum lord of the film. The young actress who played the immigrant did a great job trying to make her way through the harsh world of early 20th century New York City. She winds up finding no family, her sister winds up on Ellis Island(in basically a jail), and she's got no money. I felt bad for her when her only Uncle called her dirty names and sided with cops and land lord. She accidentally finds Joaquin's brother while doing work on Ellis Island. While the film is slow, its good at the end. Good for a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Beach
(2000)

Good towards the end
I confess. I skipped this while it was out in the theater. I remember seeing a lot of trailers and promos for this. While it looked interesting...it looked real dull also. I decided to give this a try. It was really good. Tilda Swinton gives a great performance as the head of the island tribe. Leonardo is a mid-twenty something in search of life! Aren't we all? He winds up hitch hiking with a couple to a "mysterious" island. Where all the mid-twenty something's hike, fish, drink, etc. etc. While that seems corny, the plot at the end gets really good. And it had me hooked. If you have a lot of free time give this a try.

The Dead Zone
(1983)

Good!
One of the better movies I've seen in a while. Saw this on cable, and I'm glad I didn't skip it. Very good plus it has a lot of suspense with the plot. Christopher Walken stars as a teacher who receives an incredible gift. He can read people's minds to help solve crimes. I was a little leery, because there's a lot of crime shows out like this now. This plot still had me intrigued. Very well done and thought out. Walken helping the life of a kid was pretty good. I really liked the emotion between the son and father. I really like the twist at the end with evil politician's ending. The sad thing is some of it still rings true today. Give it a watch!

Nightcrawler
(2014)

Great film!
Oh after working in TV news for a few years. I had to share this with a few friends. They chuckled at the movie. Overall, it's a pretty good looking at working for nightly newscasts in a local area. Crime leads! You're supposed to (almost) do whatever it takes to get that shot. Now Lou Bloom's character and Rene Russo would have probably been fired in real life. I kept smacking myself at several scenes. But the story itself is very well put together. It could give people a look at actual police work and following scanners/ rushing to the scene to report the story. And I predicted law enforcement would step in after he moved the first body he shot to get a better angle. Overall, it's a good thriller film. You'll love this.

Showrunners: The Art of Running a TV Show
(2014)

Great show!
I really enjoyed this. When I worked as an E.P. at a small town station...creating content for multiple hours a day is tough (think Wyoming or Montana). I agree with the "new" term Show-running. These guys are definitely more like a Station Director or Manager at that point. Not just an E.P.! This is a pretty good insight into the world of television. I was surprised at how similar the writing process is with local stuff and a network drama. It's still writing scripts to get the audience's attention. Dealing with the networks has to be nerve racking at the level! Breaking into T.V. at any level is tough now-a- days. I liked the one producer's story on how it took him ten years to be successful. This film is definitely a watch for college students trying to break into TV/Broadcasting!

Bates Motel
(2013)

Pretty Good!
It took me a little while to catch up on this series, but it's definitely worth it. You'll fall in love with the characters. This is definitely more a drama than horror show. The plot of the show is pretty simple. Norma and her son take over an old hotel that most of the town covets in some way shape and form. Then her son enters the picture and complicates things for everyone. Norman and Norma Bates have this strange relationship. I'm glad they didn't go the sexual route. That would have been cheesy to me. I really like the plot twist at the end of season 2 with the different town groups and gangs trying to overtake each other. This is worth your time. Give it a try!

Community
(2009)

Hit or Miss...
This show's always a hit or miss for me. I really have to be in the "mood" to enjoy this show. It's actually pretty good in certain aspects. A corky ensemble cast...all stuck in community college together. The stuff that I kind of find weird is the whole sci-fi/pop- culture reference thing with the show. I actually thought it was cancelled but decided to binge watch the last two seasons. It's definitely taken a turn from being an office spin-off. I really enjoyed seasons 1-3. An ex-lawyer must go to community to college to save his career. I like the diversity of the cast plus Chevy Chase playing in a sitcom is great. The new season's gonna be a little odd without Chevy Chase, Troy, Shirley or Abed. At least it's on a netflix platform.

Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star
(2011)

You get what you expect
I can see why some people gave this a bad review, but honestly if it's free then why not. It actually has a few laughs in it but it really falls flat in the last 30 minutes. It really brings the movie downhill. The character of Bucky is pretty funny. Overgrown Iowa boy living in his parents basement while discovering they were porn stars lol. That was pretty good. The romantic comedy elements in it were pretty lame. It's your standard Happy Gilmore comedy, not too good but not the worst movie ever made. The comedy in it isn't that bad if you really think about. The issue is, it's almost too raunchy even for today's time. The raunch in it made it almost unwatchable at certain parts. It's almost like a junior boys movie to be honest. They'd find this as the best movie ever.

Canterbury's Law
(2008)

It was meh.....
This show isn't necessarily good or bad.. But The Good Wife's a lot more intriguing. Elizebeth Canterbury stars a "controversial" lawyer who bends the law while going through personal issues(a missing son and her husband not lovng her). I gave this a shot on Netflix. It's a good watch if you have a lot of time in a day. I really can't stand the main character. She comes across really cheesy. The story line is actually quite good if the show were developed onto further seasons. I see where they're going with this. Prosecuting Attorney v. Defender of the Defenseless. The pilot would have been better if you realized that she's dealing over her missing son. Also the show doesn't make sense to me until the last episode.
