The Perfect Wedding
(2021)

Better than a Root Canal...
Though they give you painkillers for the dental work. For this one, you're on your own.

The movie's problems include stilted and/or downright poor acting, a plot that seems like a collection of random plot lines from old B movies, and a pace that goes nowhere quickly.

The bad-girl lead is unable to pull off the role, the co-worker friend is a convent reject 'good girl', the bride is unlikable, the villain acts like a low-rent thug - there are no winners in the movie's main players, and though veteran actress Barbara Gordon does her usual good work, saving this movie is beyond her minor role.

Just say no.

Frasier: Goodnight, Seattle: Part 2
(2004)
Episode 24, Season 11

Frasier DID grow and develop
How did folks miss that fact that his job was in San Francisco, but his flight took him to Chicago - where Charlotte was? He didn't end up alone, a womanizer - he ended up pursuing the woman he loved, Charlotte. Great episode.

The Long Goodbye
(1973)

Unforgettable
I was meh on it until the coke bottle scene. This movie has the dubious distinction of being the only movie that I walked out on, convincing my riends to bail, also. We demanded to see the manager, got our money back, and left. I never wasted another minute watching an Altman film. I hear he's good at what he does, but what he doesn't isn't good enough for me. YMMV.

Ready or Not
(2019)

Not Worth My Time
I started watching but it got boring pretty fast. If all it takes is gore gags to amuse you, you'll love it. If you expect more from a movie, skip it.

Fifty Shades of Grey
(2015)

Heard It Was Bad But
I didn't expect it to be so boring -- and it was boring as hell. I will say, though, that it would take a masochist to stick with this movie till the end. I sure didn't.

Patterns
(1956)

Excellent film.
If you are able to find a copy or see it on tv, make time for this one. All films should be half as good!

Beverly Hills Wedding
(2021)

Great for Home Security
Home security pros often mention leaving a few lights burning and the tv going when you aren't home. This is a great movie for an empty house. If you are doing your taxes or correcting test papers or talking on the telephone, this movie would work well. Also, people who don't care about the story line, the acting, or the characters they play might enjoy it. If all you ask from a movie is that it have people moving and sound and scenery, this is the one for you.

But if you want well-drawn characters played by talented actors or a story with some depth to it, this is not your movie.

Both male leads are awful. Both female leads are awful. Ben Sullivan is miscast as a groom, but none of the others are much better. Brooke D'Orsay is painful to watch, but that's true of the whole movie.

Skip it.

Morning Glory
(1993)

Read the Novel
Having read the Spencer novel, I was very disappointed in the film. The main characters are excellent. Christopher Reeve, Deborah Raffin, Nina Foch, Lloyd Bochner, and Helen Shaver are a pleasure to watch, even in this rather slow film.

The problem is the screenplay by Charles Jarrott and Deborah Raffin, which was unquestionably poor. Much of the character development was lost, and WWII, which figured prominently in the novel and provided context for those stupid jars of honey, was barely noted.

The book's villain was barely a footnote and the conflict was shifted in a move that did not work at all. With a runtime of 1 hour 36 minutes, they could have kept the main villain and the original ending intact without going over two hours. They rushed important elements and left others out, making the movie weaker for their efforts.

The LaVyrle Spencer novel from which the movie was made, however, was excellent.

The Ultimate Gift
(2006)

Worth watching
I am a James Garner fan, but the cast as a whole was good. The plot was interesting and some good photography. A good message for our time! My only complaint was the butterfly; that was a bit too sappy, but it was over quickly. It could have become a maudlin tear-jerker but went a different and better direction. Wouldn't watch it again, but glad I saw it.

Baroness Von Sketch Show
(2016)

A great comedy break!
Like all sketch shows, BVS doesn't deliver the laugh with every single sketch. That said, the show never fails to deliver a fun half-hour. The women are great and hugely versatile, reminding me of comedy greats like Tomlin and Radnor. I couldn't pick a favorite actress; they are all really good. The writing is tight, the sketches are set in relatable situations, and the laughs are solid. This one is a winner.

Frankie Drake Mysteries
(2017)

The clothes are cool
The supporting cast is excellent. Actresses Riley Liddiard, Kung, and Matthews are a real pleasure to watch. The male actors are good, particularly Lemke. The weak link is the lead, Lauren Smith. Her smirks, modern hairstyle, and head tossing are distracting and pull me out of the enjoyment of the show. I won't be watching this show again, though I love the era.

Will You Merry Me?
(2008)

A Different Christmas Movie
This was a fun movie. The moms, Wendy Malick and Cynthia Stevenson, are excellent in their roles - really, all the main characters are good but these two women steal the show. Reagan Pasternak is especially funny as Mary in the nativity pageant. The usual Christmas scenes are there, but with twists and unexpected results that kept it from becoming the usual Christmas Hallmark dozer. I would watch this again. If you like Christmas movies that are funny, you'll probably like this one. Wendy Malick typically chooses good scripts.

One Starry Christmas
(2014)

This One Made Me Like It
I'm pretty well done with country Christmas movies and have been for years. I checked this one b/c I recognized Sarah Carter from Shark and was curious. It's a really cute, feel-good movie with lots of chuckles and a memorable song (sung by George Canyon) too. The parents (Neil Crone and Kathleen Laskey) are excellent. I really liked this movie and saved it to watch again.

American Pickers
(2010)

American Greed
I can't stomach this show. The guys deliberately take advantage of sellers. If sellers don't know the value and haven't done their due diligence, that's one thing. But to see a seriously under-priced item and STILL ask the seller to reduce the price, well, that's about as low as it gets. No respect for these guys.

Scents and Sensibility
(2011)

Awful
Forget Austen. If you're looking for her brilliant work, it isn't here. What is here is a poorly written script and inadequate acting. How can someone turn a smile into a negative I don't know, but Williams makes it happen with her oversized and overused grimace. The male lead would be good in a better project.

Sintel
(2010)

Animation: Amazing, Story: S***
Sucky dark story. Depressing as hell. SO sorry I bothered watching.

A Christmas Snow
(2009)

Pretty awful.
So slow. So improbable. So sappy. Actors aren't great. This is a faith-based movie, so be warned. Subtlety is not this film's strong suit. If you are looking for a film to mention God and throw in some bible reading, this is the film for you.

Summer House
(2008)

Stupid straight through
Acting, script, premise - all D-level. Watching paint dry is time better spent. I'm so sorry I gave this one a try.

Love You to Death
(2015)

Don't waste your time.
Seriously, let this one go. Predictable plot, poor acting, stilted dialog.

Christmas at Graceland
(2018)

Intolerable
Kelly Pickler, whose singing I can handle, is not an actress. Many people in these movies aren't good actors but she takes it to a new low. She is a successful singer, and she should really stick to it. Her accent (and I'm from the South, too!), that voice, her grade-five acting skills, and her Silent Night - it was so bad that I changed the channel and watched the shopping channel hawk coins, which I do not collect or want to. It was really bad.

I know that some reviewers are offended by the negative response to her accent, but even for Southerners, her accent is really strong and twangy.

I've seen Wes Brown in many tv shows; he was the reason I stuck around as long as I did, but even he could not save this movie.

The Sweetest Christmas
(2017)

Just Sweet Enough
I love Christmas movies, even when they make me roll my eyes at all the Christmas cliches (snowball fight, anyone?). This one has all the cliches, but somehow, I don't roll my eyes.

The difference is the actors. They rise above what could be a trite Christmas confection and draw you into the story and make you care about what happens. Jonathan Adams is wonderful, Lacey Chabert is believable, and the rest, esp. Lea Coco, Brenden Sunderland, Lara Gilchrist, Brenda Critchlow do a really good job.

I'd watch this one again. Thumb's up!

Christmas in Evergreen
(2017)

An Average Christmas movie
Ever seen a dancing class recital? The group is dancing away but there is always the kid who is simply doing steps. Sometimes you can see her mentally counting the step-ball-changes before the turn. It looks like dancing but it's missing what makes dancing, dancing.

For me, watching this movie, Ashley Williams is that kid and it ruins the movie for me. Overacting to the hilt, that jack-o-lantern smile, everything too big, too much, overdone. Natural is not in her acting tool box, she acts like a pre-teen in her school play. It's distracting and pulls me right out of the movie. It's a problem b/c she plays the lead and is on camera a LOT, so if watching an actor substitute big-eyed ear-to-ear smiles (sometimes at inappropriate moments) for actually getting into a role annoys you, you might want to plug in It's a Wonderful Life and enjoy the great acting that turns a Christmas movie into a Christmas classic.

The other actors are ok in their roles, and the plot is typical Christmas romance with the usual angels in the snow, tree decorating, bearded old guy dispensing holiday wisdom, etc. etc. The movie is predictable, of course, but that's what Hallmark movies do: guarantee the happy ending.

I love Christmas movies, and for me this one is fair to middling. If you enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies, you'll like this one as it follows their holiday pattern. Teddy Sears (Ryan) and Holly Robinson Peete (Michelle) were bright spots in this movie

Girls' Night Out
(2017)

Needed: NEGATIVE Stars
This was a horrible movie. Horrible plot, horrible acting, horribly boring. Worst of all is the ending which leaves you with unanswered questions till you realize you really don't give a d*** about the answers anyway b/c you're so glad the movie is finally over. Have a root canal instead, it will be less painful than watching this movie. I rate this movie S for S*** b/c that's what it is.

Fixer Upper Mysteries: Deadly Deed: A Fixer Upper Mystery
(2018)
Episode 3, Season 1

Ouch!
This should be a good-enough movie for yet another sleepless early morning. I've seen enough Hallmark movies to know what to expect, so I tuned in. When I open a can of Pringles, I know I'm getting some good chips; they're easy eating if there's nothing better around but nothing special. I feel the same about Hallmark movies: ok viewing if here's nothing better to watch. I have seen most of the suspense series and expected the same.

But this movie isn't even close to the run-of-the-mill Hallmark. Watching Jewel, I realized she didn't get this part by auditioning and, sure enough, she's an exec producer. Everyone else does a good job, but Jewel is a singer and too successful there to bother with acting till she's had enough lessons to be able to do a good job. Very disappointing, as I have enjoyed her music.

I'll skip further installments in this franchise.

Out of Control
(2009)

Average+
This is the usual suspense movie, good enough to hold your attention but nothing you'll be talking to your friends about afterward. Ms. Vandervoort does a fair job in this, as do the others, and it held my interest well enough. I've never felt much sympathy for stunningly beautiful women, not being one myself; I figured their beauty compensated for whatever prejudices they faced. Reading the venomous comments regarding Ms. Vandervoort, though, gave me an insight into the malice some people direct their way. This movie is not destined to be a classic studied in film classes, true, but the actors and actresses in it do an average to slightly above-average job.
