T.O.R.R. Dawn of the Red
(2011)

3 Stars (For me!) Because I actually finished it??
So, you know those super low budget B movies that end up being cult sensations? Or, at the very least, particular fan favorites??

Well, this movie is definitely NOT one of those.

What makes even the worst movies great is the actors and their acting ability. Their acting is what draws a viewer in, immerses them in the story, engages them, invests them in the characters' plights and emotions, and keeps them glued to the screen till the final scene- sometimes in tears, or cheering, or often wanting more!

NONE of the above is to be found in this movie. Zippo. Ziltch. The only actor that is sort of ok is the man who plays the Russian, uh, commander. Sorry - I wasn't even invested enough to catch his formal title. He is believable. So kudos to you, Sir. You probably added a whole extra star to the rating all on your own! ;)

The infected truly aren't worth a mention. An embarrassment to the genre. In film. AND print (as in, people's imaginations everywhere.)

It's a shame too. The pretense is a fun one. The "villain" if played well - we would never have even needed the "helping hand" of the background visuals to understand his motivation. That broke one of the biggest rules btw- show, don't tell. Additionally, an opportunity was missed in not having the other soldier's personalities play a larger role. As well as all of them seeming unnaturally quiet, what is worse is they all look strangely similar??

Anyway, just an all around terrible movie. I often choose to watch movies with low ratings, preferring to decide for myself; have my own experience. 90% of the time I enjoy the movies. This time, however - no. Just .... no.

Trust me. Your preschool daughter and her little friends put on better "plays" than the actors do here. Go give them your attention instead!

Shark Lake
(2015)

Ok...It's really not THAT bad....
Wow. People have shredded this movie - from the actors, to the script, to the sharks. The only truly valid point is the sharks. I suppose not that big enough of a budget to get some really great effects - but we still are able to get the visual point. And, really, it's a B movie people. Other than the sharks, the rest was enjoyable. Plenty of good ol' roll your eyes moments, but then a few quality honest to goodness surprising happenings as well. I thought the acting was fine, only once or twice was I tossed from being engrossed in the movie. I think mostly when the reality tv guy was there. Of course the setting was beautiful. Lots more I could say, but it would get into the land of spoilers.... Bottom line - if you love shark movies, are running out of them lol, this is your next top choice. It's all downhill from here.

Monsters
(2010)

Worth watching - Don't quit! Get to end!
It's a solid show. Gets a little slow about 75% of the way through... but just wait it out, because the ending is definitely worth it. I'm glad I gave it a shot, based on reviews.....

Homecoming
(2018)

Riveting!!!
Absolutely riveting! I had lots of things to do today, a beautiful November Saturday- all shot because I spent the entire day binge watching the whole season. I had failed to notice it was a new show, so I was hugely disappointed there was no Season 2 yet!! Hopefully there will be. ((((((SPOILER -- Must see her jump into that little car, map in hand, and speed off after that truck!! My heart is breaking for it!!))))))) So, yes, wonderful cast, setting, story - pace, suspense, and believability. Must single out cast again. Wish I had the time to mention each actor, as everyone was fantastic in their own right. Brava to ALL!!!! (Even you guys in the so called background- I see you.... and all your hotness too! ;) Love it!!!!!

Island Zero
(2018)

Pretty good for your money....
Felt like you were watching a movie you paid money for. The characters were well developed and spanned all ages. There was no randomly placed hot girl/employed as stripper walking around in reveling clothing the whole time, while everyone else wore parkas. How very courageous of the producers lol. The setting was perfect. So was the clothing. All believable. And the first scene dives right into the bloody mystery. All combining to make this a movie you want to keep watching..... ~~~~~~~~~~ The story moved along sort of slowly. Full of relationship threads that don't mean much ultimately. I guess other than building the watcher's connection with the characters?? The one inconsistency with real life is - island people tend to be smart, independent, prepared folks. So the fact that the place immediately fell apart, even emotionally, was a bit off-putting. Enough to draw me out of the story. Besides that, the suspense does eventually begin to build, and the pace picks up. People start losing limbs. The end was satisfying in one regard.... but then in the actual final scene I wanted more. But don't we usually?? It wasn't that bad of an ending overall. You pretty much could surmise what would happen based on the characters you've gotten to know. ~~~~~~~~~~ So -- it's not the very best in the genre, but it's miles away from the worst. It's definitely worth a watch.

Zombie Farm
(2007)

HORRIFIC- And Not In A Good Way
LOVE low budget zombie apocalypse movies with some type of military edge. Have seen countless. Have read half decade worth of the genre as well. I guess that makes me some type of "expert." Lol Not really. Just know entertainment. And this? Is horrible. I couldn't even make it all the way through. To be fair - I did give it 85%. But that was more than enough to judge, believe me - so I can save all the rest of you poor souls the time. It was just so bad, at one point I actually looked up and said out loud, "I'm bored." And that's never happened before. I can find SOME redeeming quality it almost everything. Don't kid yourself and watch to see what all the "bad hype" is about. It's not that type of "bad." Just skip it. It should never have been made. Sorry creators.

Isle of the Dead
(2016)

Fun Ride! Military-Zombie-Science Movie
I don't know what movie all the Negative Nancy's were watching, but from my seat the movie was a fun from the start military-zombie-science movie. Sure there wasn't much character development, nor was the script all that deep. But it was an overall fun spin on our favorite theme. With great scenery, costumes, and just fine zombies. And speaking of the zombies, there was a nice twist or two. No spoilers. ;) Overall, it was fun to watch beginning to end. At the end my family was looking at me funny as I was yelling over and over a particular phrase. I was definitely invested. So of course it's not a big budget film that's going to win an Oscar. It's meant to be. It was created to be what it is. Pure zombie lover's enjoyment. And it absolutely delivers!
