Battlefield: Bad Company 2
(2010)

Don't believe the hype...
I suppose a Battlefield Bad Company 3 is just around the corner well it should be because these are games people love to play with the first Battlefield Bad Company being a testament to that. But, and a big but, don't fall for the media sensationalism.

Okay so you can blow up a building but that should not be the only reason why you play. It is a lot similar to the first Battlefield Bad Company game when I talk gameplay but please you can be forgiven for writing this off as a sequel cash in.

I play for achievements and I found I completed the game in about a week on and off but the achievements, this game, appears to have glitches.

You can collect all of the weapons as collectables which you pick up as you play but the achievement unlocked before I had collected all of the weapons and you are left asking yourself, I don't deserve this?

There are parts when you can commandeer a tank or drive other vehicles vehicles are still included if you are that way inclined.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is a rather easy game even on the hardest difficulty so don't worry about losing your life and restarting over and over again. Well, I myself I will admit I am not a very skilled gamer but I could still unlock all of the offline achievements and complete the game.

It is 2024 so don't download the DLC (downloadable content) because well, you can't. Additional content had come at a high price most of it is based in Vietnam. But look, you can't pay and download it has been too long.

This game has co-op (cooperative) gaming all over it so play with a friend not just on Xbox Live but in the privacy of your home!

Pick it up today on Microsoft Xbox Live Game Pass or buy a hard copy off ebay.

Forza Motorsport
(2023)

Ready, set, go!
Available now on the Xbox Live cloud.

This is the latest and greatest and yes it seems Sony has an edge with their long time Gran Turismo games bringing a run for Microsoft's money in simulated realistic car racing.

There are plenty of cars to choose from and for those like me, long live the Ford Falcon, it is a thrilling ride. Please remember that this game is not like driving in the Grand Theft Auto games or Need for Speed no this is simulated car racing it has to be taken seriously.

Play online with eleven other players all trying to get that number one spot in each race. It is rather difficult to win even for those who are more familiar with these games than other people but you can practice the track first before you compete.

Cars can receive damage but it is quite limited so you can roll your car but you might get away with just a broken windscreen.

Plenty of cars once again including production cars (made with order). I found one car, the Bentley GT which was a nightmare to drive but all cars drive different and that is one thing which makes Forza Motorsport special.

Race in the night, race in the day. Race in the rain, race in the sunshine there are options to change weather and thus the conditions of the track. Remember, these are official car racing tracks not public roads.

Customise your car with different colours, emblems and parts.

I just played Forza Motorsport for the achievements but had a lot of fun doing so even if I was putting work in so go and try it for yourself Forza Motorsport is available for free playing on the Xbox Live cloud.

Now excuse me while I drive off fast into the sunset.

Wolfenstein: The New Order
(2014)

Kill the Nazi threat...
Wolfenstein is back and bigger and better than ever.

So I played this game on the Xbox One X so I have 4K graphics enabled through the television and the console.

The Nazi's won WW2 and now in 1960 it is up to a group of resistance fighters to stop them. Firstly, if you have played Homeland: The Revolution Wolfenstein is not an open world it is a linear first person shooting game.

A lot of the achievements can be unlocked by starting, playing and restarting the first mission.

With the 4K enhancement with your system the graphics are more cleaner and crispy. However, I play on the Xbox One X not the Xbox Series X but Wolfenstein is one game amongst hundreds of others which you can experience this revolution in console game visuals even if it may not be as fluent.

Basically, you kill a variety of Nazi characters even a dog sometimes kitted out in this iron armour you have to act fast to save yourself before the dog mauls you. I was playing on one mission and you have to kill this one dog five times to unlock the achievement. So I went back to that particular part of the game but the dog was not in the location it was before. So I gave up because where else could this dog be I couldn't find it.

Achievement hunting with this game is rather easy because there are no Xbox Live achievements as Wolfenstein: The New Order is not a multiplayer game. You try and play other games with people around the world on Xbox Live most of them don't have even a handful of players.

Just go out and buy it especially if you are rather skilled at first person shooters unlike myself but I still completed it on the hardest difficulty you just get game over a lot but you pick yourself up and have another try.

Finally, if anyone is reading these reviews, I have been a bit on the back foot with this one because I have been exoeriencing bouts of depression and stubbornness. A lot of the time I just don't want to play over the last few weeks because of how I feel with myself. But hopefully things will be better soon and I can churn out more completed games with the reviews alongside to keep you informed.

Happy gaming.

WWE 2K16
(2015)

Let's get ready to rumble...
I play for achievements but you can still enjoy each game. I downloaded this for free on Xbox Gold when they were just getting started.

A good game.

Much like other instalments you have WWE universe and WWE mycareer modes as well as just regular standard exhibition mode. I created a CAW and entered in to mycareer mode but I have been playing for hours and I haven't got a title shot yet at the NXT championship belt.

A lot of the achievements are rather easy and even moreso if you play the game on easy.

I found a glitch with one of the Brock Lesnar achievements I did everything right but it didn't unlock. Please let me know if you find the same.

Mycareer mode may be a challenge but putting hours in to the mode without a title shot is frustrating and unacceptable.

As one would expect WWE games come out once each year but if you want to play something which is rather good (WWE2K20 and WWE2K21 are horrible) then just get this and even moreso if you are a fan of the WWE. As for me, watching pro wrestling on television is boring.

Go get it.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted
(2012)

Not a Forza or Gran Turismo game...
Hi I am back with a new review I have been busy playing Xbox games, still.

Don't go in to this game expecting a cooled down driving simulator because this game is fast paced having you drifting around corners recklessly avoiding, of course, oncoming traffic.

Also people like to play driving games with a driving wheel hardware set up but don't go out and buy one to just play this please. Please, what ever you do take advantage of the displays which are in this game. No, there is no driving steering wheel point of view display option with NFS: Most Wanted but don't waste your money unless you are playing other driving games which do have it such as GTA V or Forza 5 (Xbox gamer here).

Basically the entire game requires you to defeat each racing opponent as you climb the, most wanted, ladder and that is pretty much the game achievement wise however if you do play for achievements you won't be playing for too long.

You win each race which I found reasonably easy given I am rather good at driving computer games. As you ascend the cars will get faster and the competition out on the roads, which are public roads, more fierce.

I say this a lot and that is just buy it. It is cheap given its age. Beware, this is for the Xbox 360 computer game console.

There are so many other of these games part of the franchise. To date, the latest games there are two for the Xbox Series X. But, rumour has it the future of the Xbox will depend on the evolution of the television dongle. You plug and play, save to the OneDrive cloud, and there will be no more need for a disc... so goodbye computer game stores. If stores you find in your local shopping mall are still there they will be fighting a losing battle they will eventually go out of business because of these always online gaming capabilities which will eventually become the norm.

So what I am saying is don't buy the Xbox Series S or Series X and don't buy another console which will likely come out after these current generational computer gaming consoles. I have an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One X with the 4K Ultra HD (high definition) graphics on my television. But look I will be waiting for the dongle and be content with Xbox 360 and Xbox One X games. But you can deicde what you want to do however you will be spending more money rather needlessly.

Go for it.

Battlefield 1943
(2009)

Available on Xbox Game Pass...
Get a hold of this any way you can you fight on islands in WW2 where the Japanese are trying to take Australia and New Zealand. All gameplay are based on Pacific islands between Americans and Japanese. Please be aware that this is an online game I don't believe you can play offline as there is no campaign mode. If you are up for it this game is a lot of fun very much and you will want to come back for more. A short list of achievements (Xbox players) gives you a challenge but a lot of them can be unlocked rather easily. I recommend playing the rifleman role there are vehicles as well such as tanks, jeeps and aircraft. Enjoy watching your enemy bombed to bits with the bombers in the bomber bunker. Pick it up today.

Grand Theft Auto IV
(2008)

A rusky wants to own New York City...
It took me three days in three sittings to complete this game. In my opinion, you must have this game it is essential Xbox 360 gaming.

So the story goes you play as a poor and weary Russian who is looking to start over in New York City (Uh, make that Liberty City like Grand Theft Auto 3). You know a few people who are criminals and off you go in your quest to own the streets of Liberty City.

This title exceeded my expectations a lot of work has gone in to this game. Liberty City (New York City) has been recreated very well. It is breathtaking all the buildings you can see when you fly a helicopter around this open world of crime.

Just buy it it is essential Xbox 360 gaming you won't be disappointed.

Battlefield: Bad Company
(2008)

Oh wow I can destruct buildings...
So around the time this game came out people were so enthralled that this game has a certain level of destruction involved. Well, it does. But from what I heard and from what I have finally experienced what people said didn't do it justice.

Okay, so 2008. The Xbox 360 had been out for a few years by that time. But these horrible graphics I downloaded this game from the Microsoft Xbox Game Pass library. For the uninitiated the Game Pass game library is what you pay $30NZ dollars for every three months. This payment will allow you to access a selection of games (but come on lets be honest Microsoft ain't giving much away here) at about one hundred of them. So I paid $1NZ before the membership price got jacked back up to full price. It is basically an Xbox Live online service you pay for with your credit card without running off to the local EB Games to fall victim to an idiotic employee who doesn't know anything about gaming nor play any games on a console or personal computer. The selection is on the cheap mostly Xbox 360 games from years past now available for you to download, install and play when you can. But hey, any game should be worthwhile playing especially for achievement points right? Wrong.

I experienced, with Battlefield: Bad Company, freezing loading screens, being kicked out of the game when I was just getting started and when I was finally able to play, my squad were wearing grey coloured uniforms and I thought this is beyond a sick joke I felt frustrated as to why and how this was happening.

I downloaded and installed Battlefield: 1942 just the other week and I am cringing at the thought I will be experiencing problems with that game too.

Look. Buy this game and give it a whirl that's what I will generally say. But destroying peoples houses with a grenade launcher and a vehicle here and there is what your idea of destruction is? Go for it. What is ironic is when Battlefield 4 came out they were hyping that very aspect of gameplay. It was called, levelution. It had what Bad Company had but a skyscraper will collapse when you destroy the buildings foundations and it will come crashing down. People thought that was cool.

Don't believe the hype but play through it it can be a challenge but with my experience I would avoid it like the corona virus.

Until next time.

Forza Motorsport 5
(2013)

Better than what I was expecting...
So this is Forza 5 released in 2013 and still hasn't lost its charm.

Basically, Forza 5 is a grand tour through motoring both present and historic. You race slow cars, you race fast cars, you race new cars, you race old cars and you can race just about any car as you progress through career with a bit of education along the way.

I played this on the Xbox One. The interesting thing is that the Xbox One is semi-4K meaning there are features of the game such as the crowd and reverse view which are in 4K. But this is not a complete 4K game so make no mistake. Microsoft does not support a 4K Forza 5 on the Xbox One X.

This game has aged well it is still a lot of fun if you tend to be rather good at driving/racing games like myself.

You can adjust different settings such as car ware and tear and remove guidelines such as braking before sharp corners. The more you play like a pro the more credits you will be rewarded with to buy and upgrade cars.

Before I played Forza 5 I thought about buying a steering wheel, manual gear stick and pedal set to make my gaming experience more realistic. Don't. Don't because what I found is the heads up display suited me just fine. You can play this instalment of Forza 5 in different views but the best I found was the steering wheel and dashboard view. Playing at a computer desk with a decent gaming monitor also helps you. I game with a BenQ gaming monitor an American product which is arguably the best for HDMI and semi-4K gaming. BenQ has a reputation as being what it is because their hardware is used by the best gamers in the world. Also, don't buy a full 4K ultra HD television just buy a 4K gaming monitor and set it up on a cheap computer desk which you can assemble (two people is best) and sit in front of it with your undivided attention.

So these days Forza 5 would be like about twenty dollars from EB Games or anywhere else for that matter.

Just buy it give it a go and have fun on the track.

Homefront: The Revolution
(2016)

Not what I was expecting...
I thought this was downloadable content for the first Homefront game. But, what we have here is a game of a sandbox world of Philadelphia where the North Koreans are on the attack.

Now, I played this game through including the other parts to it. If you want achievements however make sure you unlock them as you play through. I didn't, and even though there is a feature which allows you go back, it doesn't allow you to go back to any mission of any of the game but only the last three missions. So I have to play through the game again from start to finish roughly if I want that gamer score.

One thing you might notice is that if you have played games like Splinter Cell or other third person shooters it that there is one thing they all have in common which is gun stashes, a friend with you to open garage doors at critical moments of the game and access to motorbikes if you are in a hurry.

This title was available for free on Xbox Live but the chance is long gone.

However, buy it. And play the first Homefront which is a rather linear affair. But Homefront: The Revolution is a real improvement and goes to show that the first Homefront had so much oozing potential.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
(2014)

Splinter Cell on steroids...
This is my first time playing a Metal Gear game and there are so many of them. They may be more familiar with Japanese gamers as that is where it grew because of it being successful.

This game is a lot like Splinter Cell, think Splinter Cell Conviction or Splinter Cell Blacklist. However, they may be similar but Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes has extra features built in.

Each achievement is about 50G but there are a couple of others which are more and should do wonders for your rank (Xbox Live).

However, unlocking achievements are not easy even given the freedom to roam over the map as you do. One achievement apparently is glitched, another says clear the mission while riding in the truck. Clear the mission? Well what does that mean?

The people who developed this game are mostly Japanese. A fine instalment in to Japanese gaming history.

Just go for it.

Homefront
(2011)

Expecting so much more...
Homefront may not be a movie cash in but this game was lacking in my view.

There are only six missions or "chapters" but when played on the guerilla difficulty they can be a real challenge.

You spend most of the game fighting the North Korean invasion with a mate or two. There is a very large variety of weapons but you will discover those as you move through the game.

I just thought that this game would and could look a bit better. At times, sometimes, it could be mistaken to be ahead of its time but most of the time more character was needed.

Don't go in to this expecting a game which is rich in graphic enhancement. You should go in to this game expecting just a cheap thrill. Achievements (I played on the Microsoft Xbox 360) are there but most of them have to do with playing through the game a couple of times.

I mean, okay, I played on the Xbox 360 but meh, you look at movies on YouTube comparing the console systems with the personal computer and the only difference you see are there are jagged edges (comically referred to as jaggies) in the graphics and no jagged edges on the more late systems. It is this which makes or break any game across the board.

Just buy it, have a play and cross it off the list.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist
(2013)

The best Splinter Cell game...
The best Splinter Cell game and I am not saying that lightly.

The menu selections, the gameplay, it has been well put together.

And neither is this a short game to play there are many missions and the developers have allowed the player to choose which missions to do even those over again for your cash for your weapons and other gear you will buy.

The game is based on your paladin aircraft an aircraft which you command war from the skies high above.

Try playing on the perfection difficulty like me it was a challenge but I did it.

This game has high quality immersive gameplay which is important if you want to come back for more.

You get two discs, not just one. The second disc includes a high definition package to enhance the gameplay.

Good one Ubisoft.

Soldier of Fortune
(2000)

Soldier of Fortune...
This review is for Soldier of Fortune Payback.

I played the Xbox 360 version.

Some of the most horrifying gore I have seen in a computer game.

This game has more of a multiplayer component than a single player campaign. But, you will just have as much fun. I don't know whether people still play this on Xbox Live... well, I mean, you would think so wouldn't you?

One of the rather different first person shooters and it is a pity that it is also one of the most seasoned and untouched.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent
(2006)

Being under cover has no limits...
I played the Xbox 360 version.

Sam is back and at his most dangerous. You will be taken in to a terrorist organisation (of white Americans) to pull off a few terrorist attacks on innocent people. But while you do, when you have already infiltrated the JBA headquarters by helping a member create a prison riot and flee together out of the chaotic prison compound, you will otherwise be there to get your espionage on and go through documents which you will become more familiar with these terrorists and will allow you to eventually unlock achievements.

I have played through this game a few times and it really has grown on me. Basically, when you are not at the JBA headquarters you will out on the field working against NSA interests and seriously, attempting to kill a lot of innocent people.

People will die... those who are even JBA members. Your superior Lambert will even come in to the story and help you out by giving you some accessories he thinks you will need to pull off your objectives more efficiently.

Go and buy this game, add it to your collection, and make sure you have the other Splinter Cell games, there are six.

Happy gaming.

Battlefield 2042
(2021)

Meh...
So we go in to 2042 with a world still being ravaged by war. Welcome to Battlefield 2042.

Firstly, let me address the initial re-action of a lot of us when the game dropped and then the weeks after. Get over it. This game is actually pretty good despite what you might find out in social media.

But there were strength in numbers not including me after I settled down with it, however, but a lot of people seemed to be rather unhappy. People had forgot though, the game could be overhauled at a later date due to edits the developers have in console gaming nowadays. They just took it at face value then spit the dummy.

The glaringly obvious difference about this game is it encourages you to play in a squad. Unlike other Battlefield games, you can just become the lone ranger. But still, if you play, you will see nobody cares and never did about playing in a squad.

This is a flexible game this time round because you can be a sniper, but be a medic too. So you will have what a medic carries in their kit, but also be armed with a sniper rifle.

There are a few maps when you start I don't know whether more will be available as downloadable content (DLC) but I think it is expected there will be many more.

According to DICE, who apparently fired a lot of their staff before launching this project, they think 2042 is going to be a year in which nothing really changes. Well, not in a strikingly significant fashion. Just don't go in to this game expecting flying tanks with laser beams and mech warriors. Nothing has really changed since Battlefield 4.

Given the poor reception, you could get this game at a sale price. Have a look around but at the end of the day it will be the internet which will enable you to save the most money.

Game on.

Need for Speed
(2015)

You. Must. Play. This. Game.
I have the Xbox One X version.

Hopefully you will have been taken in by the 4K hype by now and have a television with 4K Ultra HD.

You will not be disappointed.

Aside from the revolutionary leap in computer graphics this game takes place in the illegal street racing scene of Los Angeles.

You start with so many credits to buy your first car... I bought the 2000 Honda Civic Type R. The game always takes place at night. Although you do get a bit of a dawn, it is about ten seconds before it is nightfall again.

I guess a Volvo and a classic Volkswagen isn't such an ideal choice of a selectioo of cars and the purple Lamborghini? There are just things such as these in Need For Speed which say awkward.

The story in Need For Speed is integrated in to the online play. It is a good idea to complete the story mode (alongside a female mechanic) to get started and unlock parts and earn credits to buy them.

The cut scenes are real time, not animated. I skipped through all of them you don't need to watch and listen to them to know what to do in the game.

You will unlock achievements as you play. By the time you are finished with most of what you can do, you will have certainly unlocked most of them.

So go and pick it up or download off the Microsoft store (if you can). One of the best, although not so elaborate, car racing games out there.

Well done, 10/10.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
(2007)

An oldy but a goody....
This is Call of Duty. This is the crown jewel of first person shooting online multiplayer computer gaming, arguably anyway.

You feature amongst your squad and take on the Russian threat in missions which require you to get in, then get out.

I am a bit of a Battlefield fanboy but I am happy now I played this. Don't even think for a second that I am good at Call of Duty multiplayer because I'm not.

I played this game on veteran. It can be a challenge but regular checkpoints will help you progress through to the end.

I think you should just go ahead and buy this because it is a popular essential.

I played on the Xbox 360.

Duke Nukem Forever
(2011)

Duke Nukem is back!
Its true, Duke Nuke is back in this computer game on the Xbox 360.

So this game is quite a long playthrough and I suppose that is a good thing because people complained about a game such as Splinter Cell: Conviction as being too short.

This game is R18 because partly it has some of the most profound nudity I have seen in a computer game ever but that is just Duke Nukem for you. Duke Nukem is a real American badass and that is how you explain it.

One gripe is that there are so many boss levels in this game it can become quite frustrating because after so long such as an all nighter you just want the game to finally end and give you achievement points. But on the plus side, a lot of them are reasonably easy to defeat if you know how. I completed the game on hard but it really isn't all that hard so I recommend that is what you should do to get those points.

So add another to your collection. Considering this was developed in 2011 it will be cheap as chips by now. You will probably have to buy online because a place such as EB Games only have so many titles and they can double up.

Good luck.

Battlefield 3
(2011)

We have a war tomorrow...
I played through the single player campaign on hard I got the achievements and a job well done all round.

You fight a Russian warlord in this game and also an Arab villain.

The game is orientated a bit around the city of Tehran of Iran. You fight fierce gun battles at times but then you also have parts of the game when you fly a jet aircraft and maneuver a tank.

Play the game on hard you might die more often but it isn't as if you are going to be held down time and time again if you play differently and defensively.

People were complaining that there has been no Battlefield game based on the war on terrorism. Well, we are all wrong. Battlefield 3 is your ticket to war on terrorism warfare.

Just buy it because it is really cheap nowadays.

Hitman 2
(2018)

Agent 47 is on the job again...
This is my second game off of the Xbox One which I have played in 4K.

What can I say there is certainly more to do in Hitman 2 than previous instalments. I was actually wanting to play Hitman 3 but accidently got stuck with Hitman 2 through a misunderstanding.

More than a few missions. If you learn how to complete each one then return to it to play again you will increase what is called your "mastery" so you can also unlock achievements associated with that down the track.

You get taken in to what is like a Hitman game hub. You can download all the Hitman games for Xbox One.

As I said there is plenty to do you won't want to be playing the same mission once.

4K for now has flawless graphical quality so I do recommend buying a cheap 4K television with ultra HD (Asian brands you haven't heard of before) like I have to upgrade your gaming experience.

Do try it.

Fun in Acapulco
(1963)

A trip back to yesteryear...
I didn't know Elvis Presley was an actor until my parents told me. I logged on to YouTube to see this movie and I was happy I did. Like classic rock, I think it is a good idea to have your children watching these movies because back in the fifties, sixties and seventies - they were what people would call the golden age. People had morality, men knew how to treat women and any sexual interaction was rather conservative. In contrast, that is all the opposite these days. You don't have to be a fan of Elvis and his music this is a good film I am glad I watched it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
(2020)

Back in the U.S.S.R....
You might find this hard to believe but this is my first time playing a game such as Call of Duty. I do play the Battlefield games, and in multiplayer, and I can manage better. However like other Call of Duty games you really need to have your wits about you in multiplayer and I don't. The Battlefield games are more myself.

So here we go again fighting Russians and eliminating the enemy nuclear war threat the way Call of Duty knows how. You play as your own character when you set up to start the first mission. I completed the story mode with the veteran difficulty and it wasn't all that difficult.

I finished the game in one sitting throughout one day the other week and I was happy with it.

You have the ability to make choices in this game. The million dollar question is will you save your fellow American or betray them then forsake the country along with all of Europe with nuclear holocaust?

Sometimes the game can scare the hell out of me like when the time you fall down a hole underground to be attacked by some kind of human being with dead skin. Or how about the time when you start having nightmares about your war experiences? This is part of this game and is all playable.

It is interesting to note that there are no Chinese communists in this game it is all about communist Russia and as it usually is in media for that matter.

I bought and downloaded this game for just $70NZ from the Microsoft store online. I don't know whether the deal is still available but have a look if it is over one hundred dollars and you don't have the money I suggest going to your local EB Games or such to buy a hard copy.

Terminator Salvation
(2009)

Terminator Salvation for Xbox 360...
So Terminator Salvation the computer game tied in with the movie. It is old now, though.

So you basically get from one point to the other which is eventually Skynet. This game can be easy even on the hard difficulty if you know what you are doing.

You don't fight alone, however. You spend a lot of the game with other resistance fighters trying to keep Skynet down over the city of Los Angeles.

I haven't seen the movie so I can't say whether the computer game is different in regard to the plot. But if you can put up with a broken cover system which at times is rather frustrating that is about my only gripe.

You will have to buy this game online I really don't think you will find a hard copy in the gaming stores such as EB Games and so on.

Velvet Assassin
(2009)

Interesting idea...
It is an interesting idea to have a female assassin because that role usually goes to the men.

So not a very long game but there are achievement points to be had.

I played this game on hard but with your morphine shots you can gain a real advantage to defeat the enemy. Sometimes, you can just run past the enemy on to a checkpoint and leave them behind.

The kills with your knife can be brutal. You sneak up to an enemy Nazi soldier and press A when you are close enough to perform a violent kill. I'm sure, with your enemies being Nazi's, you will enjoy each moment.

There are guns in this game, by the way.

This game is not based on a true story.
