Modern Love: At the Hospital, an Interlude of Clarity
(2019)
Episode 5, Season 1

Danish or strudel?
I enjoyed the lighthearted nature of this episode and as someone who is incredibly clumsy, I found it fairly believable that a date could end up in A&E. The only things that bugged me were: her bloody dress (WHY did he use it to cover his arm/WHY did she continue to wear it) and when she asked 'danish or strudel?' and he said 'danish' but she gave him the strudel...

Zoe
(2018)

Beautiful
A wonderful mix of three films I love: Eternal Sunshine, Her and One Day. Love and heartbreak are arguably two of the most intense feelings and in a way prove that we're human but if robots can feel these things too, what really makes us human? There's a scene where the "synthetic human" realises they can't cry so maybe that's the proof - does the film make you cry? Surprise cameos from Matthew Gray Gubler and Christina Aguilera which was unexpected but brilliant. Plus the soundtrack is an absolute treat!

Slaughterhouse Rulez
(2018)

It does not rule, at all
A great cast full of easily recognisable faces, a mildly interesting plot and some funny lines scattered throughout (thank goodness for British humour) but in all honesty, the only terrifying thing is the film overall. Somewhat enjoyable if you don't take ANY of it seriously.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things
(2020)

A fever dream
The entire film felt like a long fever dream. I was confused throughout.

Session 9
(2001)

Don't do it
Total waste of time. So incredibly boring. Don't bother!

Absurd Planet
(2020)

Such a shame!
I was really looking forward to this. I love nature docs and learning about weird creatures but the narration made this insufferable to watch. Such a shame cause the visuals are beautiful!

The Nightingale
(2018)

Great film but could've/should've been shorter
The film definitely could've been way shorter if she'd just stopped singing and just killed the scumbags. It was hard to find a character to like and when I did, (Billy), I felt like he didn't get the ending he deserved. Overall, it was horrific to watch and incredibly intense but cinematically beautiful, especially all the various tree shots. I continue to be shocked by the pain and hatred humans can inflict on one another but I am so glad to not have been alive in the 1800s.

The Innkeepers
(2011)

Didn't check in but I fell asleep
So incredibly boring - it's almost two hours of nothingness. The lead actress is terrible and annoying. It actually made me cringe at how bad and overly acted it was at points. Would not recommend.

Secret Obsession
(2019)

Oh, another helpless woman
Really tired of the woman in every movie (of this genre) being the 'helpless idiot' who just continuously falls over and can't seem to do anything logical. Genuinely frustrating watching this.

The Monster
(2016)

7/10
Overall I enjoyed the film. Thought the monster was pretty effective and enjoyed the storyline but WOW the young girl was actually insufferable. At many points in the film I almost gave up because she just kept on whining.

Ghost Stories
(2017)

Took me by surprise!
Amazing cast, Alex Lawther being my fave. He was delightfully awkward and intense. The scene in the car made me laugh out loud. The film is full of typically British humour and jokes that make you uneasy. I was kept guessing all the way through and loved the end reveal. Also enjoyed the continuation of certain quotes (from the radio or conversations) and the repetition of the numbers. The hooded figure in the background was a creepy touch! All in all, very glad I watched it.

Bird Box
(2018)

Stressful but enjoyable!
I enjoyed this film but there was a lot of secondhand stress - the children, the 'seers', the naivety of some. It kept me feeling tense throughout and I loved the whole theme built around the birds.

Midnight Sun
(2018)

A let down!
I really wanted to like this film but it was slow and pretty uneventful. Also, surely someone should've checked the name Katie Price beforehand. It took away from the seriousness of scenes. Patrick was great but overall, a cringe fest of terrible dialogue.

Be Afraid
(2017)

Very boring
Longest 1hr39mins of my life! Some of the scenes were visually appealing but a lot of the acting was terrible
