Damsel
(2024)

Writing=Bad Acting=Meh, But still entertaining.
A ridiculous movie, but its cinematography is pretty good. You can literally skip the first 30 minutes, as nothing happens until you enter the dragon pit.

I guess it's some B-director's pet project that they jumbled together, but the movie benefits from them just going for it, they don't try and explain everything in excruciating detail, so its a fun ride once it gets going.

Flaming bats were kind of cool. Glow slugs are fun. It has a charm not unlike that of the really early mid-evil fantasy movies.

All in all, its not that great, but its good to see a fantasy movie try and strike out on its own out of nowhere. Too many books/shows/movies are all trying to go for super serious fantasy, but not everything can be Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

Solar Opposites: The Ping Pong Table
(2023)
Episode 1, Season 4

This show was never great, but nearly unwatchable now.
I liked the little people in the wall fighting with candy etc. In previous seasons, and overall, some of the episodes are okay, but I always hated the main characters.

It is a drag to even try and sit through this episode. Woohoo, their boss dies, yay (I guess) someone's head gets smashed. They call Ping Pong "Ping Ping" for 10 minutes... So, what is the plot, where are the jokes?

Only joke this whole episode was that their are 3 invisible planets the humans don't know about, kind of fun. If we lean more into this and less into half-assed character development that will get ret-conned next season (this show will never end I guess), we may have a show

More jokes, gore doesn't make a show by itself.

The Sandman: 24/7
(2022)
Episode 5, Season 1

Snorefest
Terrible acting, terrible plot... unconvincing characters... If I wanted to watch a highschool rendition of The Twilight Zone, I can find better on youtube. This show gets worst by the episode.

Fake love, plastic faced gay fantasy, what the hell is the guy with the ruby trying to do? Every character in this crap town has some stupid love life that they need to share with the people in the diner, all while we get stared down by close up face shots of plastic surgery addicted big lipped aliens.

Basutado!! Ankoku no hakaishin
(2022)

Poor writing, and a terrible story.
Girl might be cute, but can't carry the show, couple episodes in and you notice how laughably bad this thing is.

Even if fan service is something you are looking for in anime, this show is so terribly put together that its hard to get through. The action is not good at all.

Episode 1 and 2: One-half dimensional villains attack the kingdom, girl agonizes over kissing some dude to awaken a spell (whilst people are dying) then summons the guy (after monsters kill like everyone). Awakened Main Character (MC) talks about how he hates the world and how he won't help, then helps. Some creepy stuff between main girl and him, then she kisses him away again.

Usually, an entire kingdom in the anime world has a bunch of heavy hitting fantasy heros. Here, some old priest controls a wizard through his virgin daughter, like... bruh.

The art for the MC is terrible, what kind of steroid induced comatose makeup dream did the artist have when coming up with that?

This show reminds me of late 90s Manga that can't decide if its porn or not, then they clean it up by scrubbing all the things the porn audience wants, and your left with like a quarter of a story.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II
(2022)
Episode 2, Season 1

Terrible
"That ending though!" -People with exceedingly low standards.

You people found that exciting? Really?

Only reason I watched episode 2 was some reviewers hyping "AMAZING ENDING EP 2"

I guess if you have the stomach to watch the rest of the first two episodes, you might consider an old lady in a Wal-Mart scooter exciting.

This episode was terrible, horrendously poor. The pilot was bad too, but its somehow going downhill. The running around and spinning is so clunky, I can pretty much see the stunt wires. The 'good guy criminal' is a child's idea of what a criminal is. The pacing is awful, very long drawn out unimportant spots, then Obi-Wan says the bounties on me, let the girl go.. oh your helping, OKAY! In less than 5 seconds.

STOP Rating this crap high just because its Star Wars, if you want better quality Star Wars, be honest with yourself and the piss poor creators that made this abomination.

Love, Death & Robots: In Vaulted Halls Entombed
(2022)
Episode 8, Season 3

Fantastic Animation, However...
What a crap premise, suicidal characters, and just half-assed 'plot'. Why shoot at orange/apple-sized SWARM of killer robot things? Just run away, oh wait no, lets turn at shoot at them! Okay, someone died? IMPOSSIBLE, stand around and stare so we lose ground. THEY FOLLOWED US? NOW RUN... oh wait...

Shimoneta to Iu gainen ga sonzai shinai taikutsu na sekai
(2015)

Unexpectedly Hilarious
Stumbled upon this gem after binging a bunch of anime. It is unshamefully dirty and humorous as the characters take the battle for morality all too seriously. :D.

The Tomorrow War
(2021)

Better if you skip the first 37 minutes
This movie should have played to its strengths, it could have started with when they entered the future and just continued to the action. The sloppy attempt to make a half baked story just wastes the audience's time. Besides the terrible plot, the action for action's sake is like a 6/10. Terrible movie all around, not worth 2 hours.

Loki: Lamentis
(2021)
Episode 3, Season 1

Terrible episode with horrendous writing, rips you out of past episodes.
We watched 2 episodes before this one, the stakes were building, some badass is murdering the time cops and about to do some crazy stuff behind the portal... and what do we get? Nothing.

We get no background on the Variant except for the fact they have been fighting the TVA forever.

We get a stupid exchange with some old woman in a cabin.

We get a half assed train scene which with half a fight.

They complain to each other.

They dodge meteors to get into fistfights with the blue suited people, who have no reason to fight them, whatsoever. The sky is literally falling, why would you stand around waiting to fight someone, miles away from the 'arc' when you have no time to return to it, then stop and stare at the blown up arc?

Jesus Christ, man, if there was ever a throw away episode where they just said: "meh we need to waste 40 minutes" this is it.

If you read it this far, you probably aren't some high as a kite Marvel fan that 10/10s every new thing saying its the best ever. This didn't even meet the lowest of expectations that one would have after watching the first 2 episodes.

Shadow and Bone: Show Me Who You Are
(2021)
Episode 5, Season 1

Kind of a Mess, Self Involved MCs
Felt like a bit of a jumble to me, they could have evened out last episode's super slow pace, with this one's crammed timeline.

There should be more intrigue, more depth, this love story is so terrible they should really have focused more on the political/war side, or something. No matter what they say, this is how I see their love story:

-You know that guy, the one you got your unit killed for in the first episode? -Yeah!?! -Well he got two of his friends killed for you, finding a big deer last episode! -Really?!? -You were literally all he thought about before, during, and after he led them to their demise!!! -How romantic!!! -Not only that, he is neglecting his duties, strong arming your lover/superior, and he wants to see you!!!

Couple Weird P. S.(s)

Gay Guy in Stable: 'Take the damn horses, I know I saw you as a stage performer earlier, and you are acting fishy now. Want to roll in the hay?' What the heck? :D

I just now noticed the leader of the rogue faction has a bum leg. I genuinely thought the cane was a stylistic quirk.

Shadow and Bone: Otkazat'sya
(2021)
Episode 4, Season 1

Slower Episode, He's Back
Bit of a slower episode this one, and was a poorer in quality tbh. There is a heist that is in fact fun and not too serious. That's about it, the heist, stag hunt, flirty eyes with General Shadow. They could have given some answers among all this.

Is there a war between people going on? (with who?) How big is the country? If they are so needing soldiers (why, and for what) how can they just send randos off to search for magic deer.

Poor Directing: This kinda breaks a scenes: BF and Co. Are trudging slowly in a blizzard, one complains he thinks he lost a toe. Cover up your damn ears then, put your hoods on, bundle up. Fight scene, gun doesn't shoot, he drops it and runs up barehanded? (Use it as a club, maybe pull that knife out that you do later...)

Poor Acting / Writing: Big Ear-Dirty Face-Whiney Boy is back! I don't know if its his internal dialogue or just the way he's portrayed, but man I hate the boyfriend. Ever notice how the other soldiers are like 3x cleaner than he is? Man got his friends killed fake-chasing after a woman who is frankly better off without him. Actor mumbles his lines wike wis. "Itsda wun thwiing I can still give you" FFS man, everyone else is coherent. Besides the fact they look nothing alike, the child version of this character is acted out much better.

Shadow and Bone: The Making at the Heart of the World
(2021)
Episode 3, Season 1

Much Better Episode, The Plot Thickens
There is something fun about seeing the rogue leader with a goat. :D. I enjoy that we get a glimpse of sneaky knife woman's motives, but then the story continues, not getting engulfed in something for another episode. Boy am I glad big ears isn't chasing down carriages this episode.

I really liked the creepy librarian, the actor hit that one out of the park. The psyched poison taster was pretty fun too. I didn't read the books, but if these zany characters originate from there, props to the author.

Heh, flying thing got skewered by a pointy stick WHERE WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN USEFUL (Part of my annoyance for ep. 1, doesn't bring this one down at all)

If I had to criticize something, it would be the whole 'take a detour, gambled away the buy money, put us all in peril, now I am going to complain to the people I screwed' thing with the gunslinger. This is a variant of that common trope where someone makes terrible decisions, its portrayed as endearing, and nobody pays the price. There was enough suspense going already, garnishing is just unnecessary, like putting boots on a duck.

Shadow and Bone: We're All Someone's Monster
(2021)
Episode 2, Season 1

Love interest is annoying
Getting better, though I don't need to stare at a glowing arm for 30 seconds when it means nothing to me as the audience. Guy cleaved some dude in half, that was pretty cool. The fight scene as a whole was much better than the ship attack from Ep 1.

Reason its a 7 and not an 8 or 9 is the guy distracting from the main plot by asking everyone and their brother about his girlfriend. Running to the tent, okay not thinking clearly. Running after carriage, token gesture of his cinematic love for her. Interrogating guy who came back on a bloody horse "You left her with one man?" That one man sneezes more capably then this guy can stand. Busting into the commander's tent and demanding they go after her? Really? ENOUGH ALREADY! If he is willing to do anything for her, steal a horse and go after her, no? Okay then...

Shadow and Bone: A Searing Burst of Light
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 1

Plot is good, the action didn't do it for me.
Maybe the monster scene on the boat was an epic intro in the book, but the actions of the characters didn't make any sense on screen in the lead up and during the fight. Can I get an explanation as to why if these things are attracted to light, scaredy pants lights a lantern? If they are under attack, why are the non-combatants not taking cover? Some guy jumps of the boat and navigates his way directly to the exact spot the other side is waiting for the ship? No way magic woman was killed when that thing grabbed her, she should be freaking out burning the hell out of it. Pretty sure they could design the ships better against the threat they are facing. Also, I feel like a bunch of spears would help here, skewering a flying monster that muskets don't appear to hurt would be more effective, especially if that thing is coming at you head on.

All that aside, the story has merit and the characters are interesting. If the plot gets rolling it can be great. If this turns into a show of impossible numbers of side characters dying while the MC(s) stroll along it will be disappointing.

Boss Level
(2020)

Could be better
This movie can't decide between mindless action and trying to tell a story, so it fails at both. People that compare this to the best of action movies need to take a closer look. The humor falls short and is very repetitive. The narration is terrible, and the guy talks likes he has relived the same day thousands of times, we pick up at only 140. If the guy missed the truck 22 times, how many times did he die elsewhere? Well a dozen times in this second and that and... FFS show and don't tell. If you are going to tell, you better back it up and follow your own continuity.

At this point you are probably wondering, "so what, probably some good action right?" Unfortunately its pretty mediocre. Most 'action' scenes are close up shots of people staring at each other before a sudden movement and someone dies, or an explosion with some half assed CGI that is outdone by movies from the early 2000s.

If you are wondering "WHY IS THIS SO UNDERRATED?!?!?" Its because the quality is lower than you think, and artificially inflating its rating by giving it a 10 won't make it any better.

Star Trek: Discovery: Project Daedalus
(2019)
Episode 9, Season 2

Good Episode
Wish there was more development before this episode, but the execution was good.

IDK why someone that needs an apparatus to breath in artificial atmosphere would have the same suit as everyone else... make a suit that allows you to breath, so say if someone rips off your cheek accessory's, you can breath in the helmet.

Also, how did life support make the air breathable in 2 sec... no air, or cold air (not specified) would still take a while to make breathable/temperate. Also why take off your helmet? If someone, say a crazy ai decides to poison the air, and your helmet won't work (like it did to pike in the pod, another instance where you would be wearing it anyway) you could still breath.

Did they have to kill her? They could have ejected her, helmet intact, remotely disabled her suit's booster, and recovered her when they destroy the ai. Of all the far fetched crap I have seen in Star Trek (I like the crap okay) This is actually a pretty easy solution.

Star Trek: Discovery: Light and Shadows
(2019)
Episode 7, Season 2

Action packed episode.
Its a fast paced episode, all action and little story. It fit well with the shorter time. Most reviews have polar ratings, (10s and 1s) I didn't find it that great, but it didn't drag like some of the other episodes in season 2 thus far. No story means they can't write a bad one :D

Only major critique I have for this episode (there is always something :D :P) is the Pike/Tyler argument and Tilly/Stamets slow walk to the transport. BURN THAT FUEL MAN, RUN SCIENCE NERDS! I KNOW YOU WON A FAKE 1/2 MARATHON. (The show forgets, but I won't) :)

For the season up to now, I think the show is suffering from a lack of characters. They bring back the ex-klingon and ex-terran for everything. Who is the new security chief? (actually where is security) I don't even know who the chief engineer is (they have the adopted one who is more of a doctor then the physician). In most Star Trek the Doctor has some crazy experiment or contributes huge amounts. This guy feels like the diversity hire, all we know is he's gay and likes opera. (Hes not even Chief Medical Officer just Physician, #feelsbadman) Dude died but it was treated more like Tylers sorrow for murdering the guy was worse than the guys actual death. Theres the other Doc but she is just that fake-angry-doctor cliché.

Tying back to this episode, I think thats why this one kinda works, few characters, short episode, pretty lights and loud sounds keeps us entertained.

Star Trek: Discovery: Point of Light
(2019)
Episode 3, Season 2

Man, who writes this garbage?
Whole episode was weird, but moments like this are really stupid:

The Command Training Program's Half Marathon has a winner! 4 runners, all come in within a second of one another. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. Do you know how long of a gap there should be between people? Many, many minutes, and that is if they are all competitive runners, which these space officers are not. How big is this starship? I know its big, but you are telling me there is a single deck with enough room to have people run through its corridors without disrupting operation/other traffic?

Guess I shouldn't be too surprised seeing as this comes from the same show that has a spacebug (Saru) able to run 80 kmh, which is almost exactly 50 miles per hour, then takes about 10 minutes to reach Burnham when she can see him on the ridge.

But come on guys, next you are going to tell me there is an alternate universe with the same people in the same positions, but every attribute of life is different? Oh wait I watched season 1.

I still enjoy watching Star Trek, new and old series, quality has always been an issue, since the original series However, just the smallest amount of effort could clear scenes out that are not only unimportant to the plot, but make either no, or even contradictory, sense to the rest of the show.

Gekijouban Fairy Tail: Houou no miko
(2012)

I enjoyed it.
If you like the show, you'll like the movie too. A short arc to be expected of an anime-movie but its the same Fairy Tail.

Pretty good animation on the fight scenes and throughout the movie, nice clean transitions and ambiance.

The Mandalorian: Chapter 12: The Siege
(2020)
Episode 4, Season 2

Messy Writing, This episode dumb action held together by fancy visuals.
Nevarro can't be freed until the last imperial holdouts are taken care of... HOW MANY IMPERIALS WHERE THERE?!? They just keep coming back, again and again, en masse, fully equipped. There sure appeared to be too many imperials on Nevarro in season 1, okay they killed them all, nope there are like 200 more. Why do they suicidally fight to defend a base thats about to blow up? why do they have speeder bikes sitting behind a door waiting for the assailants to escape, then chase them, why does speeder dude stand in front of a turret dramatically waiting to be shot, why do they wait for the speeders to die, and then finally send fighters. Breaking emersion for action is fine every once in a while, but the show is trending away from storytelling to an action-only adventure.

The Haunting of Hill House
(2018)

Meh
I like drama, and I like horror. Unfortunately, this show has the worst of both, some jump scares every 15 min, put together by some uninteresting family drama just doesn't do it for me. It just came off slow, and I never really got scared.

Goblin Slayer: Goblin's Crown
(2020)

A decent Anime-Movie
Chronologically after the anime season 1, this movie is very consistent with the Novels' story with minor changes to make it smoother on-screen. There is a large recap at the beginning (20 minutes or so), which might confuse those that saw the same scenes in the anime, but will catch you back up if you forgot some things. Soundtrack is pretty neutral and shouldn't turn anybody off.

If you like the movie or the anime (Which are GREAT!), I would suggest the Novels/Manga. The slower pace of reading gives you the opportunity to catch minute details of character development to partner with the goblin slaughter!

Star Trek: Picard: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2
(2020)
Episode 10, Season 1

Planetary Sterilization Pattern #5
Oh, so there are four other patterns to sterilize a planet that are routine enough to number? Security Chief of Star Fleet blows her cover as a deep agent to command a one time assault on a planet they have not confirmed as the correct one. (Good thing the Synths are too stupid to spread out) They could have put a random Romulan in charge of a fleet, but they chose her why? WTF happened these last episodes? The first seven episodes built up a lot of good suspense, then flat nothing. It was so poorly jumbled that I was rooting for the Romulans to win.

Star Trek: Picard: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1
(2020)
Episode 9, Season 1

Disjointed Story, and I am here for the Borg.
How I got to this episode: There was buildup and suspense of the Borg Cube reanimating and taking out the Romulans, I half expected that the whole ancient threat the Romulans spoke of was the Borg themselves. I was teased with them about to turn on, but then they all get ejected and the "XBs" who were previously so docile they stood still while getting shot finally take back the cube... So there is another threat, and two episodes to finish the season. How this episode went: Some new Dr. Soong Jr. (I thought original Soong was so fixated on synthetic life he never had a family) appears and has a whole colony of synths whose only defensive measures are space flowers... space flowers that don't harm ships, but bring them to the surface, and so close to the colony its a short walk. So if a ship was hostile, its crew is now on world and would go to the colony and kill all these no so enhanced "super advanced" synthetics who have no other defenses. This would be okay if they were in fact docile, but at the first sign of trouble, they are willing to annihilate all organics to survive. (If the synths were so worried about there own survival, they would have put better defenses up over the years, not an express pass to their colony) Romance... bleh, THERE ARE 218 WARBIRDS ON THE WAY! Why is everyone making small talk lovey dovey, and murder chick is completely forgiven. She murdered the ONLY person she has shown to have a connection with. The girl who is so scared she is going to mess up the transporter mercs a guy? uh, okay, the rest the group is A-okay with having murder girl walk around and act like nothing happened? (Man that character was written poorly, if she can murder the guy she loves, you think she would have the guts not to hide under a table in turbulence.)

Enterprise: Terra Nova
(2001)
Episode 6, Season 1

Terrible Episode, Just Bad Writing
I like the series so far, but this episode sucks! Some people in one of the first colonies don't want 200 more people to encroach on their planet... PLANET! That's right, they can't make space for 200 new colonists? They were so upset by this, they argued with their counterparts on earth, to the point that they would suspect a meteor disaster as a murderous strike from earth? I don't buy that either. The kids survive the disaster, and create a stupid society, god are they stupid. In 73 years they changed so much that they distrust 'humans', are a tribal society, but somehow know how to use and maintain the old weapons. Even though they can't make ammo, they can liberally expel it in a firefight with Enterprise crew. SHALE I SAY! Yep, that's the writers' chosen word for BS, and that is what this episode is.
