Drowning by Numbers
(1988)

Not worth watching despite being beautifully shot and charming quirky acting it's ultimately too stupid for words as well as numbers.
Drowning by unsatisfactory boredom would be a better tite. Its probably would 4 stars since it IS beautifully shot and all cast members display charming quirky acting however it's 's ultimately too stupid for words as well as numbers.

The three women are sexy and seductive, the colours are gorgeous, the men are dull and silly but for the coroner who us silly but mildly amusing. It looks great, the music is fantastic but ultimately it lacks substance even though they made an attempt at poetic justice in the end. YUltimately that is a failure too. FInally you will feel that was beautifully photographed, the sets marvellous and well acted but WTF did they make it? WTF did I watch it?

The film's musical score by Michael Nyman is entirely based on themes from the slow movement of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante in E flat, bars 58 to 61 of which are heard in their original form immediately after each drowning. Greenaway alerted Nyman to the potential of this piece in the late 1970s and had previously used it as material for part of the score of his The Falls and for "The Masterwork" Award Winning Fish-Knife and Tristram Shandy. "Trysting Fields" is the most complicated use of the material: every appoggiatura from the movement, and no other material from the piece, is used.

Sade: Never as Good as the First Time
(1986)

Classic classy songstress racing a horse across open country to the coolest groover on earth. <3
Nearly all Sade songs are about commitment and security, but this song, "Never As Good As the First Time," from the 1985 album Promise, an ode to hooking up and living purely in the present, is the exception. The reckless pace matches the lyrical abandon. It's no accident that the music video is mostly just Sade racing a horse across open country, which is so great that it's tempting to replace the Internet entirely with GIFs of Sade racing a horse across open country!

Arguably one of the coolest grooves on earth.

Sade is an English band formed in London in 1982 and named after their lead singer, Sade Adu. Three members, Paul Anthony Cooke, Stuart Mathewman, and Paul Spencer Denman, were originally from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Its music features elements of soul, quiet storm, smooth jazz and sophisti-pop. All of the band's albums, including compilations and a live album, have charted in the US Top Ten.

The song by English band Sade from their second studio album, Promise (1985). It was released as the album's third single and contained a vocal intro not included on the original album version, as well as a slightly different vocal mix. The song reached number 8 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Three Thousand Years of Longing
(2022)

Deep, thoughtful and moving
Not your typical shallow genie Aladdin-style fast-paced, light-spirited, fun romp with witty dialogue Three Thousand Years of Longing is a deeply thoughtful and lush visual and philosophical extravaganza.

Really I was tempted to give it a ten since how could one have made it better? Hard to see unless of course, you want Mario Kart style genie stories.

Written by Miller and Augusta Gore, it is based on the short story "The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye" by A. S. Byatt and stars Idris Elba as a djinn who is unleashed from a bottle by a professor (Tilda Swinton) and tells her stories from his thousands of years of existence.

Just a wonderful movie.

Leaving Neverland
(2019)

Brilliant! Honest truth that MJ was a Smooth Criminal
If those men are lying, they should get the Academy Award for best actors of all time! Their families were also interviewed, and their devastation and recognition are also authentic. Evidence that Jackson did buy Safechuck an engagement ring is below at nme dot com /news/music/cctv-footage-emerges-of-michael-jackson-shopping-for-jewellery-with-leaving-neverland-accuser-james-safechuck-2461674.

Yes, they did lodge a civil case against Jackson which was ONLY dismissed because it was out of time. It was fair enough to do since they had been groomed and abused. Later, when they had their own sons, they were concerned about what if something like that happened to them, and they knew they had to speak out.

For Leaving Neverland, they were NOT paid to do the doco, nor were their family members who were also extensively interviewed. MJ's supporters LIE that they came out for money. Completely UNTRUE! They were not paid for the film. Watch their body language. If they were lying, they all should get the Academy Award for Best Actors of ALL TIME. Jackson was a smooth criminal who had young boys Beat iT for him, then replaced them with a new younger model before they reached puberty!

The fact is the only reason it didn't hold up in court is that Australia's own Wade and James lied when they were 10-12 years old and groomed by Michael and his lawyers.. they were both in Love with Michael thinking they were only one and had been told that not only would their relationship with Michael be over if they didn't cover up their "special way of showing love" that they themselves would go to jail and Michael also would go to jail. Michael even gave Safechuck a wedding ring... he Married him! When Wade and James came to their senses and tried to sue Michael as adults, the evidence wasn't tested... why? It didn't go forward, not because of a lack of evidence but because of time constraints. The evidence is massive.. the help found him naked in the shower with naked young boys many times, and the boys that previously testified that Michael molested them were not believed largely because Wade and James lied to protect themselves and Michael. Have you watched Leaving Neverland? I bet you haven't. The research I have looked at, and the evidence is OVERWHELMING and in no doubt. You just don't want to look. Yes, I am thinking legally. It's a shame the court didn't give the boys leave of the court to proceed out of time due to the fact that, in time, they were young and brainwashed by the best smooth criminal in history!!

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead
(2010)

Inspirational & life changing
While I think there is even more healing to be had water and dry fasting for periods Juicing is a great thing.

Joe documents his story in an entertaining an insightful manner. His story and care for others shines through and the whole movie I have found so inspirational I probably have watched it 5 times .

Enterprise: Carbon Creek
(2002)
Episode 2, Season 2

T'Pol entertains and out humours the humans
Any Trek episode where T'Pol entertains and out humours the humans is a brilliant one for us all. There are quite a few dud Enterprise episodes and whilst this one is an unusual storyline it is one of the best if not the best since Season 1 Episodes 1&2.

30 Rock
(2006)

The pilot was great then came Tracy Morgan. Pathetic
Alec is a classic & he and Tina weave some brilliant lines inside the rubbish however the rest of the character are super weak, cliched and can't act to save their lives. Tracy Morgan being the epitome of that. He is completely pathetic and not remotely funny.

Interstellar
(2014)

Could have been great. If it had vision and boldness
Could have been great. If it had vision and boldness.

It tries to do so much and in the end does so little. Just nonsense.

Blade Runner 2049
(2017)

Waste of 2 hours 33 mins of your life
Great acting, Great general concept, Great effects and lighting and completely butchered. So incredibly slow and obvious, no real heart at all.............. It's a movie about connection that just doesn't connect.

Hoaxed
(2019)

Please Watch with an Open mind
Please Watch with an Open mind Clearly Mike Cernovich is NOT a Racist nor alt right or far right yet the mainstream media continue to label him as such. Why?

It's a huge psyop.

Lots of video evidence and testimony here including some great interviews with the Founder and leader of the BLM movement who actually is a very cool guy! Check it out. It's always good to get a new viewpoint.

How Do You Know Chris?
(2020)

Cracker Movie! Understated sleeper that creeps up on you.
OK, I gave it a 10 to help counterbalance the ridiculous underrated 6.65 it currently has from too many people who have overdosed on American over dramatisation and hyperrealism. Probably it's an 8. Still, it's a cracker because it is such a sleeper... it's so slow but never boring because it's so nuanced. Very good understated acting.

I hate overhyped American acting. Like the best Jim Carey is Trueman and even there he is way over the top. How do you know Chris borders on the predictable yet never is? It skirts boredom constantly but keeps your interest and never drops you.

It has Australian, and some British touches yet wouldn't alienate another national as the characters are so human, lovely yet flawed, and believable. It's not a story I would have watched had I known what it was going to be yet I am so glad I watched it now. The delivery was sublimely colourful and meaningful artwork with minimalist strokes. Characters are painted with enough brushes and tugs to give each depth, contrast, concern yet intimacy. Less is more. Really touching......

Well done and thank you. I feel blessed though it wasn't really about spirituality though maybe connection and disconnection? Maybe that is my experience of spirituality? If you watch it prepare for the slowest simplest movie on earth and then be intrigued by its vastness. Cheers.

A Stray Goat
(2017)

A waste of time
I wanted this Korean movie to be good hence I persisted to the end but sadly it was pathetic at the start middle and ending. The main charachter is mostly spineless with occassional efforts of redemption. The story is boring and not illustrated well/

Krisha
(2015)

Horrible & Obnoxious.
Horrible & Obnoxious. Don't even bother....

I am told "Sorry, your review is too short" Life is too short to waste on such ugly rubbish.

If they wanted to make a good film about teh subject there was all sorts of ways for the family to have shown some love compassion and worked with the woman, However no they just had to be braindead and abusive.

Nothing to contrbute but "Drugs are bad OK?" Alcohol is bad Ok?"

Seriously I wish this was never made. I wish I could get bad the viewing time Of my life.

I only write this to do my best to save otehrs from such a waste of space.

Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor
(2013)

Trying to be too much and ultimately just completely stupid!
So they thought it was cool to bring back all the doctors but in making it really complicated they in the end just make it completely stupid.

Olympic Dreams
(2019)

Very very dull
It could have so easily have been 10 times better but they chose to make BOTH main characters completely mentally and emotional such that the whole movie seems like perpetual coitus interruptus! Just all dumb choices including watching this.

If this movie had not been so highly rated I could have saved a watered 1hr 20 minutes of my life....

Standing Up for Sunny
(2019)

Heartfelt, funny, charming & touching
OK so it's not a 10 (I did that to counter the idiot who only gave it a 1) it's probably an 8. The only drag is the lead actress's acting ability is not great... poor soap opera actress... Australia has MUCH better than here but I guess they had a low budget and she was the best they could get that could also covert mega cuteness factor? Once you ignore that blemish she delivers enough for you to enjoy the rest of the beautiful simple genius of this charming film and it's central character delivered wonderfully by RJ Mitte.

Hitsville: The Making of Motown
(2019)

Just wonderful couldnt be better
Not just the greatest story of music production on earth but maybe the revelation of the greatest business model based on Love, nuturing and ironically the Detroit assembly line! Berry Gordy brought out the best in people, with Love, brutal honesty, guidance and heart.

One of Berry's best songwriters and producers, Norman Whitfield, started out for years as a secretary! Years later he was allowed into the Snakepit (the main studio) and produced magic such as "Heard it through the Grapevine"!

Two of the legendary songwriting team Holland Dozier & Holland couldn't even play musical instruments when they started as 18 year old interns with Berry! The guy is a legend as much as the music that was produced as a result of the environment he created. Great music and clips along the way of course that's a given but the insight into the men and women at this core is just incredibly charming, inspiring and heartfelt. The honesty and Love between the founders Berry and his first intern Smokey is literally a masterpiece of humanity at it's best.

Manon des sources
(1986)

THE BEST
One of the greatest films of all time. Brilliant Story,Photography, Acting and sheer beauty and tragedy! If you haven't see if you own it to yourself but watch the prequel Jean De Florette first.

Der Kandidat
(1980)

Unbelievably slow and boring like German humour if it exists!
Admittedly I had to turn it off after 25 minutes. I wanted to give it a go as it was highly rated here however this rating appears to be left by a rouge Nazi! Simply put save an hour of so of your life but quickly reading points of interest about the man and he works or attempted works and move on! Happy New Year!

Franz Josef Strauss, premier of the state of Bavaria, former head of three federal ministries and by far the most colorful and controversial political figure in West Germany, was born 6 September 1915 became a Oberleutnant in the Third Reich, then a right wing politician which saw him as Defense minister wanting to arm his troops with individual nuclear warhead and he tried a take over Germany by waging a campaign to take control as Chancellor (his closest attempt was in 1980) from Chancellor Helmut Kohl until Strauss died hunting in woods on 3 October 1988.

Few Germans ever viewed Strauss with moderation. Whenever he appeared in public he seemed to set off sparks that ignited rabid condemnation and hatred among his critics and adulation and loyalty among supporters.

Critics condemned him as a fascist, a menace to Germany and Europe whose policies would lead to domestic and international turmoil. One critic said of him, "He stands rather to the right of Genghis Khan." But supporters saw him as a realist, struggling against what they viewed as the muddle-headed, shortsighted views of his political opponents.

Of medium height with a bull neck and booming voice, Strauss in his prime was powerfully built and weighed more than 200 pounds, a muscular dynamo who in his youth was a champion cyclist. His appearance and manner were the delight of political cartoonists, who invariably portrayed him as a knobby-kneed Bavarian bumpkin in lederhosen and Tyrolean hat.

Yet he was a scholar of the classics and an outstanding university student whose academic brilliance continued to impress many after he graduated with honors as a doctor of law. His speeches were peppered with Latin expressions and an earthy sense of humor that at times he would turn upon himself.

He was a staunch anti-Communist who, during the 1956 Hungarian uprising, rattled Europe with the comment that the combined might of the Western Allies "could wipe the Soviet empire off the map."

A Roman Catholic in overwhelmingly Catholic Bavaria, Strauss on occasion tangled with the church. Emerging from one confrontation with the hierarchy, Strauss declared, "I was ruder to the bishops than I have ever been to anybody in my life."

Serving in cabinets headed by conservative chancellors, Strauss quickly mastered the intricacies that other ministers usually left to department professionals. But despite his brilliance and widespread popularity in Bavaria, he never managed to get either of the two federal posts he most desired: chancellor or foreign minister.

During a long career that began when he emerged from a prisoner of war camp at the end of World War II, Strauss was buffeted by controversy and scandal that frequently wound up in court battles.

Strauss was born in Munich on Sept. 16, 1915, when Bavaria was still an independent kingdom. His father, Josef, was a butcher. One of his suppliers was a poultry farmer named Heinrich Himmler, the future leader of the SS, Adolf Hitler's elite force that, among other functions, ran the concentration camps.

The elder Strauss was no Nazi. A staunch Catholic, Strauss' father was active in the Bavarian People's Party, a small conservative party that sought to sustain independence for Bavaria.

The son later recalled what he said was his first political experience--a thrashing he received as a boy from his father for passing out Nazi literature on the streets. Young Strauss said he was unaware of the contents.

Strauss entered the army at the outbreak of World War II in 1939. He fought in Poland, France and the Soviet Union and was once nearly court-martialed for calling his uniform a kluefterl (a childish masquerade). Suffering from severe frostbite, he survived the Battle of Stalingrad by leading his platoon out of a trap and then fighting a rear-guard action for 50 miles.

When he emerged from a prisoner of war camp at war's end, U.S. occupation authorities named him as deputy county director in Bavaria. He also served in the Bavarian state Interior Ministry.

He helped found the Christian Democratic Union and the Bavarian Christian Social Union and in 1949 was elected to West Germany's first Parliament.

His debating brilliance and bull-in-the-china-shop tactics soon brought him to the attention of Konrad Adenauer, West Germany's first chancellor. In 1953, Adenauer appointed him minister without portfolio. At 38, he was the youngest member of the Cabinet.

For Tactical Nuclear Arms

In 1956 he was named to what would become his most controversial post--minister of defense. He advocated such then-radical policies as the formation of a 300,000-man professional army that would be equipped with tactical nuclear weapons. These weapons would be supplied by the United States since postwar agreements prohibited West Germany from manufacturing nuclear arms. "A nuclear bomb is as valuable as a brigade and much cheaper," he said then.

West Germany at the time had only about 55,000 men under arms, none of them combat-ready, and rearmament was still a highly controversial issue. Today West Germany has non-nuclear armed forces of just under 500,000, made up mostly of conscripts.

The biggest single controversy of Strauss' tumultuous career was the "Spiegel Affair." That erupted in 1962 when police, apparently on Strauss' order, raided the Hamburg headquarters of the liberal news weekly Der Spiegel, which had long been a bitter critic of the defense minister. The raid led to the arrest of its publisher and three senior editors and the confiscation of the magazine's documents.

The magazine had published a report, purportedly based on secret government documents, that revealed serious shortcomings in Strauss' brainchild--the West German armed forces.

The raid shocked the nation, triggering fears of the return of the tactics of the Nazi Gestapo.

In the uproar that followed, Strauss was accused of lying to a parliamentary committee. Although he was later cleared of any wrongdoing, Strauss was forced to resign and he retreated to Bavaria.

Defied His Counterparts

In 1966, when the two conservative parties joined with the Social Democratic Party to form the "Grand Coalition," Strauss returned to Bonn as minister of finance, a post in which he often defied his European counterparts on economic policy.

The coalition collapsed in 1969, and Strauss again returned to Bavaria. In 1979, in what was probably the easiest election held in West Germany, Strauss was elected state premier. In 1980, he made an unsuccessful run for the chancellorship in elections won by popular Chancellor Helmut Schmidt's Social Democrats.

His last bid for federal power also ended in failure. When the Christian Democrats and Christian Socialists regained the chancellor's office in 1983, Strauss sought to take over the posts of vice chancellor and foreign minister from Genscher.

But the new chancellor, Kohl, refused to agree to the switch, and Strauss remained in Bavaria as state premier.

No intelligence in sight.
Intelligent life outside of the earth is FAR more likely than finding any intelligence, inspiration or insight in this movie! It's pretty dumb and extremely uninspiring. Brad Pitt must have smoked way too much weed...

The Duke of Burgundy
(2014)

Sumptuous Elegant Boredom!
Beautifully shot. Both women are gorgeous however there is not much progression in their relationship or story. Cynthia really is a bit useless as a Dom and her Sub Slave Evelyn ends up bossing her around a bit. It's quite pathetic really but for the beauty of their bodies, their demeanour and the sets and costumes which are just incredibly elegant and stylish. A bit of progression into becoming Switches (ie Cythia becomes the Sub and Evelyn becomes the Dom for a bit) might have been more believable as well as interesting? Evelyn clearly likes to boss her boss around but suppresses her true desires. They should all have just gone for it and explored some boundaries instead of plateauing and boring us to death! In the end but for the photography, settings and lighting this movie is a complete waste of time...
