Welcome to the Dollhouse
(1995)

I don't get it
I just don't understand what people see in this movie. I actually hesitate to even call it movie, as that implies that it has a plot, which it doesn't. Instead it has a series of scenes in which our protagonist faces one bad turn of events after another. There's just a complete lack of any story, except that thing toward the end with the little sister, but by that point I wanted this thing to be over so bad I didn't care.

Also, there is not a single likeable or even slightly interesting character to be found. Least of all the main character! She's selfish and kind of mean-spirited and just plain boring. Am supposed to feel sorry for her because of all the crap she gets from everyone around her? Well, I didn't.

I understand that this movie is a dark comedy and there is a satirical element at work here, but at least give me one character to get behind. They don't even have to be likeable, but at least have them be interesting.

Set It Off
(1996)

This movie is HILARIOUS!
My second favorite entry in the GCU* (right behind "Boyz in Da Hood" or whatever). A wonderful unintentional comedy that had it all: Murder, betrayal, ridiculous action sequences, a girls-learning-to-shoot montage, a steamy love scene, the dead kid brother (who was an honor student, of course), the "grieving" older sister who's pretty much over it in 3 minutes. AND an extremely cringe-worthy "Godfather" reference!

The performances are actually pretty solid, especially John C McGinley, who is chewing a toothpick in literally every single scene he's in. I assume one is supposed to feel sorry for the main protagonists and their sad circumstances but it's kind of hard, as they are complete idiots.

Anyway, if you want a genuinely entertaining movie you don't have to think too much (or at all, really) about, I recommend Set It Off

*Ghetto Cinematic Universe.

Day of the Woman
(1978)

Every. Single Time.
A shocking exploitation film that was accused by many critics of being an exercise in degeneracy with no artistic merit, incidentally directed by Israeli-American director. Meir Zarchi.

Santa Inc.
(2021)

A message to all those giving this show a rating of 10
I truly hope you are able to work out all of your daddy issues and I'm deeply sorry for whatever perceived wrong he did you.

I haven't seen a single comment from anyone who gave this trash a 10 even say a single positive thing about the show, it's all just "I gave it a 10 because angry Christians!!" The fact that you completely miss the irony of writing a review like that while accusing detractors of being "triggered" just goes to show how completely incapable you are of any self-reflection. The NPC meme is all too real.

Get help.

Confessions of a Time Traveler - The Man from 3036
(2020)

You other reviewers do realize that this is a mockumentary, right?
Perhaps your first clue should have been right in the opening credits where it states that this film was made by the "Nostradamus Brothers"?

Anyway, the movie is poorly executed and kind of stupid, but whatever. The predictions put forth in this one may not come true, but based on the credulity of the other reviewers here, we are almost certainly headed for the future predicted in Idiocracy.

The Clovehitch Killer
(2018)

Completely unique and totally not done-to-death!
Wow! A movie about a seemingly healthy and normal small-town white Christian family that's harboring *gasp!* deep, dark secrets. I honestly can't believe that this hasn't been done a million times before!

One star but for the fact that the acting is solid overall.

Pretty Baby
(1978)

Kiddie Porn
This movie is a piece of absolute degeneracy from Hollywood, the world capital of pedophilia and degeneracy. They are displaying their sickness right out in the open for all the world to see, while equally degenerate critics applaud the film for its "honesty" and "courage" in tackling such a controversial topic. This is kiddie porn and Hollywood should burn to the ground Is it any wonder that Brooke Shields (along with so many countless other child stars) went on to have such troubled lives??

A Simple Favor
(2018)

Glorified TV movie, but an entertaining one
This felt like something I might see on the USA Network, but it's not without its charms (like USA's Psych or Monk). I think billing it as a black comedy does it a bit of a disservice. Though there are some darkly comedic moments, the tone is more like a straight-up comedy, with some farcical moments throughout. The performances are good, though the characters are all not great people. The plot twists are fun, though a little well-worn at times (secret twin? REALLY??) It's a fun time overall
