Doing Money
(2018)

harrowing
Based on real life. This is a good story and i dont doubt for a moment its true. There must be hundreds of thousands of women caught up in this situation. You would think that the men who are the clients would think what kind of women would willingly prostitute themselves like that? Even more horrifying was men who ordered multiple women or the ones who liked beating women up and were preparred to pay as long as they left her face alone. Terrible and not enough is done to help women who are trapped in this world. Even the female police officer thought that they were there through choice . Really? Multiple men per day in all sorts of sexual situations willingly? Shocking that this is going on.

Bordertown
(2007)

so good
This is a really interesting film. The story is great and it is based on fact. The fact hundreds of young women were murdered in mexico and nothing was done about it. In narcos mexico they even picked up on it as a side story all the way through the series. No one cared about the women except their own families and communities. Local police and politicians could not care less and did nothing to assist. Sadly it still goes on and still nothing is done. After all they are only women. They work for cheap in the factories and quite literally put their life on the line going to work. Mexico is a disgrace!

Cherry
(2021)

sanatised
I like films based on someones life but when its a drug addict and they sanatise it as they have hear it annoys me. They are junkies (drug addicted persons) yet held down jobs and she was a teacher and could wait until 5pm for her fix and function very well . Really? Perhaps people think we shouldnt see the darker side of addiction but we should even if only to stop one person going down that route. The bank robberies were another joke. Maybe all these parts i saw were only the semi autobiographical ones so we complere fiction. Both survived and looked well at the end after what 15 years. Uh huh. Thats why i gave it a six. Also it was way too long.

Black Girl Missing
(2023)

rubbish
Great story so much more could have been done with this. I am always shocked by the way America treats its missing women black or white especially when they are so young. I can never believe that they are so casual and believe that so many young women choose to leave their families. Sadly this film was so very boring and badly acted that i lost interest very quickly and i am sure everyone else will feel the same. There was no real ending to this film either. It beggars belief that her mum actually found her and rescued her. Why had the white man abducted her and how had he managed todo that and no one saw or heard a thing. Is it the american way? You are in a community but not really part of it. Oh i didnt see/hear a thing. How can this happen so much in America?

Monster
(2022)

creepy scary gruesome
I can remember the story of Dahmer and no one could believe it had happened. He was able to operate because he was white. If the portryal is true to life it is unreal that he got away with it for so long. His victims came from black neighbourhoods and they were poor. I am always amazed at how little attention is paid if someone in America goes missing. Must be because its such a large country. He was a horrible person with little to redeem him in this portrayal of him. Too murder all those young men and still go to the same club to pick up another victim again and again. Really? Some of this was hard to stomach for me. I am not sure if the last 2 episodes were really necessary.

Dopesick
(2021)

the best i have seen this year
Wow this was a great roller coaster ride of emotions. I kept rooting for them to get the pharma company or family. I am in the UK but we all know it happens here. Look what happened with seroxat. A non addictive ssri was how it was touted. Its more addictive than heroin and just as difficult to withdraw from. No one has paid for it yet. Maybe it doesnt matter cos its not an opiod? Anyway this was so well done. Michael Keaton is so underrated. He steals this as the lovely family doctor getting caught up in his own addiction. Everyone should watch this just to get some understanding of how these big companies get away with destroying lives. They are so powerful no one stops them.

Lansky
(2021)

i liked it
You know sometimes i read some of the reveiws on here and find that people over analyse some films. What are they looking for? Yes the pace was slow inn this and they couldnt fit the whole book. I did wonder why the investigation was stopped and by whom. What did happen to his money or did he spend it. Living as a gangster is not cheap. Well living in america even as a poor person is not cheap. Nothing is free in america! I dont particuoarly like ganster films as they do tend to glamorise the life and it is anything but . Yes he was an old man by then and he did plenty of damage in his life. Not someone we should be sympathising with. Harvey keitel brought some humanity to the role. Was he that nice in real life(lansky). Unlikely. John magaro was like a strange cross between pacino and dinero. And some of humphrey bogart was there too. Sometimes like a caricature of a gangsta.

Fear City: New York vs the Mafia
(2020)

interesting
We all know about the mafia but this gave an insight into the huge investigation to bring them down in the 1970's. It took police and prosecutors hours and hours of survelliance in one way or another to finally end their stranglehold on new york. I was shocked about the deaths of the construction worker/s and foreman being thrown out of high rise buildings especially the attitude of the new people coming to work on that project. The mafia shoul dnever be allowed to operate because decent people are going out to work for honest wages and the mafia just take take take and never give anything. Ruling the community with threats of death if they do not obey. Most italian americans left their own poverty stricken italy to escape the mafia and make a better life in america. Sadly like a disease the mafia also made it to america to exploit its own people. A really good watch and it shows how these men and women put their lives on the line to try to destroy the mafia.

Starfish
(2016)

disappointing
Having some experiance of a huge change in a family member this really brushed over the difficult parts and told everyone it all works out ok. Nope real life is not like that. Yes she is a strong woman wanting to work through this and hoping it all works out. In real life it rarely does. They would have parted like so many do. The change to him was too much. It moved very quickly through the months but ia msure every day moved like one month for all of them. Glossed over very large parts. I laughed out loud at the doctor who had never done a facial recory surgery before how utterly typical. Ordinary people get lost in a system where they dare not ask specific questions and if they had they would have been as a problem.

Another Mother's Son
(2017)

good film
This is a reminder how close the nazis came to invading britain. An interesting watch regarding a very brave family who risked their own lives to save a Russian prisoner of war. I visited Jersey a few years ago and the still have some of the old weaponary and the gun placements from the germans still standing. On a tour of the island we were told churchill would not send any relief to jersey after teh end of the war. Whether he thought them weak because of the invasion he would not send food . There was nothing left on the island. No cats, dogs or birds. All had been eaten. It was acutally the Kiwi's who saved them by sending a ship laden with supplies, not the British. Scandalous!

Seven Seconds
(2018)

fabulous gritty drama
Whats not to like in this drama? Great cast, good story and brilliant acting. Beau Knapp just keeps on giving the more you see him.

Dont miss this it is so worth a watch.

Candy
(2022)

great show
I really enjoyed this. The acting was excellent. Jessica looks like a very young Jane Fonda here. The story was an old story but still relevent today. Interesting to see how women were treated and how some things are still the same. Shocking ending to this story.

Black Bird
(2022)

excellent
Dont miss this its the best thing to come out in ages. The acting is great. Sadly Ray died before the release of this , he played a very good role. Normally these shows could be done in hlaf the episodes but this one is just right. Great stuff.

The Bear
(2022)

so so
Meh i am not sure why its rave reviews for this show. I just thought it was standard american fair. Lots of shouting and people being mf's. Shouty shouty shouty. The last episode was the best episode cos for a change it had a piece of happiness in it. Save yourself the crap and just watch that one.

Snowtown
(2011)

hideous hideous film
So horrible i switched it off so i have no idea of the ending. All of the people were horrid. Thank goodness i never went to Australia. Every society has its issues but for a film to be made of these particular scumbags truly is amazing. Put me off Australians for life. Not that i think they are all like that but i truly believe they would stand back and do nothing if this was their neighbours. Horrible story which should never have been made into a film for money to be made . Yech yech yech.

The Good Neighbor
(2022)

not what i was expecting
Give this a watch it was so much better than i thought it would be. You think you have it sussed then something else happens. Worth watching.....................................................................................................................................

The Northman
(2022)

boring
I nearly nodded off watching this. Boring. Smae old same old. Very much a guys film . Snore snore snore.

Who can actually relate to this ? Even some of the fight scenes were slowed right down. As for him being a slave and almost just being used in the field. Really? He must have found it difficult not to walk without a stoop/ probably training for that for months.

The Take
(2009)

Great drama
I have read some of martinas books and watch some of the series/films. This was the best so far. Tom hardy in a very early role plays it really well and also went on to play the krays later on and i saw the similarities. Its a good watch and lots of twists and turns. I watched it in 2022 and its was quite old then!!

Everybody's Child
(2014)

a hard watch
One film that could have been the story for thousands of lost ones. Hard hitting and true. No real ending it will be interesting to look Garry up and see how things have gone for him.

The Cokeville Miracle
(2015)

fascinating!
I dont remember this incident at all and i would have been 25 at the time. Perhaps i just wasnt interested in the news at that time. This film is stirring stuff. Also interesting when they come up with the facts around other kidnappings and terrorist acts. How come no one did die in that terrible act. Defo worth the watch.

The Escape
(2017)

snoresville
This was like a rich womans shirley valentine. Depressed marriage and children and stay at home mum didnt quite turn out like she wanted. Off she pops to Paris where she hooks up with a stranger, who could have been so much worse than he was. And the ending i managed to stay awake that long. Dont waste your life watching this.

No Place to Hide: The Rehtaeh Parsons Story
(2015)

sad but true
Another shocking story of the rape of a a young girl. The police did nothing and instead of investigating the rapists they investigated the victim. If anonymous hadnt gotten involved no one would ever have heard this story outside Canada. They were instrumental in having the case re opened. This is not the first time this group have become involved in a high school rape case and gotten results.

Alison
(2016)

great but horrifying
A true story about a horrifying crime. I had never heard this story. Alison tells her own story in her own way. How she survived we will never know even though she and a doctor tried to explain to us. Uplifting only because of the way Alison handles the aftermath. A real shocker at the end though.

The Captive
(2014)

i didnt like it
This is another one of those films that could have been done in well under an hour. It was slow, very boring and a bit disjointed. I wouldnt recommend it unless you had insomnia.

Windfall
(2022)

written for laughs
The laughes were few and far between. I would say this was an old fashioned what they called a farce. Difficult for 3 people to carry a film at the best of times. Very very boring. So boring i could not watch it til the end. I am sure it will pop up on tv one rainy sunday afternoon.
