Young Sheldon
(2017)

Not cute, not funny, just annoying
There's already a show about a boy genius, it's called Jimmy Neutron. This show is basically a weird hybrid of that, Everybody Hates Chris, and The Big Bang Theory. And it's...not good.

You can clearly tell that everything the kid says is meant to make you think "aww, that's so cute! Look how smart he is!" But no. Young Sheldon isn't cute or funny. He's just annoying and obnoxious, and his extremely Smart Alec comebacks to everything are really draining to listen to for 30 minutes at a time. His family is more entertaining to watch than he is. The kid that plays Young Sheldon is a great actor and I'm sure he'll go far, but...he's not playing a likable character in the slightest.

Simon Birch
(1998)

Cheesy, unrealistic, doesn't do the book justice at all.
I had to read A Prayer for Owen Meany for AP English, and we watched this movie in class. We have a seminar coming soon that asks "Why do you think John Irving didn't want the name of his book to be attached to this movie?" If you both read the book and watched the movie, it's pretty easy to see why...

Basically, the movie trivializes the most important parts of the book, or just doesn't include them at all (where are the three cousins???) The scene where Joe's mom is killed by Simon's baseball is almost laughable because of how cheesy it is, what with its slow motion and everyone's shocked expressions. The scene with the bus crash is even worse because of how...unrealistic it is. There's an entire scene about how Simon can hold his breath for an unnaturally long time, yet he couldn't make it out of the bus when it went under? Really? Owen's death scene in the book (which is completely different from the one in the movie, aside from the fact that he was saving a group of children in both of them) was emotional and literally tied the ENTIRE story together. This, though...it asks more questions than it answers.

Adding on to the cheesiness, the kid that plays Joe is a really, REALLY bad actor, and I just can't take him seriously, especially when he acts sad about finding out who his father is or when Simon gets out of the bus. However, the kid that played Simon did a very good job and made for a pretty memorable character. Really, the only other roles in the movie with good actors were the Sunday school teacher and Joe's mother.

The only reason this gets more than a 1 is because the movie does have some pretty funny parts, mostly the Christmas pageant scene. Overall though, this really isn't a good movie. It might be okay if you watch it alone, but it simply has nothing on the book. If you liked the movie, I guarantee you that the book is 100 times better.

Astroblast!
(2014)

Not bad
I was surfing through the channels with my baby cousin when this came on. We decided to watch it because nothing good was on TV.

As soon as I saw the cheesy theme song, I thought the show would suck. But...it's actually not that bad! Compared to most of the garbage shows that Sprout makes nowadays, many of which I've had to endure with my little 3 year old cousin, this show is actually tolerable. It has good characters and the animation is bright and colorful, which is pleasant to the eyes. It's also pretty funny and it teaches good morals. It's not the greatest kids' show ever, but I would recommend it to little kids.

The Thundermans
(2013)

Really? REALLY, NICKELODEON? IS THIS WHAT TV HAS COME TO?

*sigh* Seriously, this show SUCKS. It's bland, cliché, boring, and not even close to being anywhere near funny. Even HALFWAY funny.

I couldn't even get halfway through an episode of this! It's even worse than Breadwinners!

This is just another family sitcom done by every other cartoon channel. It's not much different from iCarly, Haunted Hathaways, or even a new sitcom like Henry Danger or Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn.

This family has superpowers, which honestly feels like a Wizards of Waverly Place ripoff. There are much better shows with this concept. Heck, even Henry Danger is better than this!

Kappa Mikey
(2006)

The Nostalgia! It BUUUURNS!!!!
See, Nickelodeon, this is what you get when you actually TRY to make good shows! Not stupid stuff like The Thundermans! This is a genuinely good cartoon.

Back when Nicktoons Network was a thing, this was my favorite show. It was funny, the animation was great, and every character is lovable in their own way.

So of COURSE NICKELODEON HAD TO CANCEL IT AND REPLACE IT WITH THAT SPEED RACER GARBAGE.

What is wrong with you people? -__-

Anyway, back to Kappa Mikey. It's really great. Great like My Life as a Teenage Robot, Corneil and Bernie, and Jimmy Neutron. This is a QUALITY CARTOON. It's appropriate for kids, unlike Breadwinners. It's funny, unlike The Thundermans. And it has awesome characters, unlike EVERY TEEN NICK SHOW EVER.

Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn
(2014)

maybe good cartoons are making a comeback
This show isn't TERRIBLE, but it seems like it copies most of the sitcoms that have been popular lately.

The fact that the four main characters are all quadruplets is unique, I guess, and it's easy to pick a favorite (Nicky, of course B))

Nickelodeon is still the worst kids' channel on television, with Disney close behind. But their shows have improved a TINY bit since Breadwinners. Maybe TV is making a comeback.

Anyway, back to the show. The characters are quirky, and the teacher is HILARIOUS. It's a show that appeals to both boys AND girls, which isn't something that you see a lot nowadays (most TV sitcoms nowadays are geared towards girls) and it's not painfully bad like The Thundermans.

Overall, I'd say this show is somewhat worth watching.

Henry Danger
(2014)

It's OK...
WHAT? A NICKELODEON SITCOM FOR BOYS? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

Anyway, Henry Danger is about a boy that is also a superhero. Now, I don't know what kind of advertising Nickelodeon used for this show, but it isn't that bad. It's moderately funny and has likable characters. The thing is, the plot is incredibly cheesy. And blowing bubbles to become a superhero is stupid. Oh well.

Like I said, this is a good show for boys around the age of 7-9. It's fairly average, but not terrible. The episode I saw had a kind of love story plot, so I guess that girls would enjoy this show as well. I guess this is a "hit or miss" kind of show.

Dance Moms
(2011)

:/
This is one of my favorite shows. Being a 14 year old boy, most people think I'm crazy. Oh well :P

However, Season 5 has recently started and the show has started to get really...fake. The beginning of the season reveals that Chloe and Christi have left ALDC, and they are teaming up with Kelly and Paige to sue Abby. Then Abby brought in JoJo, one of the most annoying kids from the dance competition, and Kalani, as well as other dancers for a separate team. Then they competed and some kids were sent home and now they're one big team. The show is kinda "meh" now. It isn't BAD, but it seems really scripted, y' know?

South Beach Tow
(2011)

Hilarious
This is one of my favorite shows. Ever. It only gets 9 points because of how scripted it seems, but good LORD, it is funny.

This show is about a towing company and all of the craziness that they go through. My favorite tow operator is by far Bernice, she adds a lot to the show.

Bernice: Extinguish yo cigarette or I'ma extinguish it fo ya Some random lady: *proceeds to exhale smoke into Bernice's face* Bernice: *takes off sunglasses and walks away* Dave: Bernice, keep your cool! Bernice: *sprays lady with a fire extinguisher*

It's a lot funnier when you watch it on TV.

Seriously though, go watch this show. It's funny!

Breadwinners
(2014)

No.
Remember when Nickelodeon was good? When Nick GAS was still around? When we still had awesome shows like Kappa Mikey, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and Jimmy Neutron? I do too. Man, those were the DAYS.

And now we have Breadwinners.

This is a show that tries to be "cool" when its theme song is a cheesy rap (although I must admit it is pretty catchy) and it's full of potty humor, and the two main characters have the most tryhard "we wanna be cool" names I've ever heard: SwaySway and Buhdeuce. All these guys do is twerk and deliver bread.

I will say that I enjoyed the show a LITTLE bit, so it gets a 2/10 instead of a 1.

Nickelodeon has seriously gone down the tubes lately. This show isn't making it any better. If you REALLY want a quality cartoon, then go watch Kappa Mikey.
