A group of friends travel up to a cabin located deep within the forest. Shortly after arriving, they stumble across an abandoned mine and decide to explore the dark and mysterious tunnels. As the group hikes deeper within the mine, they make a shocking discovery that quickly turns their excitement into fear. Hunted by a mysterious force, the group must work together to escape the mine alive.
Mine Games, apart from having a hilarious pun for the title, is a right old mixed bag. Together with the standard horror clichés that we have all come to know and love, the story overall is a hidden gem which left me both surprised and satisfied. ‘Surprisified’ you might say.

*an online screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films. **there are a few spoilers here. Director: Richard Gray. Writers: Robert Cross, Michele Davis-Gray, Richard Gray and Ross McQueen. Cast: Briana Evigan, Rebecca Da Costa, Julianna Guill, Rafi Gavron and Joseph Cross. Mine Games aka The Evil Within is a horror film from Australian director Richard Gray. The film is more of a mind game, than anything else as the film's central plot plays with a few different ideas. Are the six friends in the film experiencing a supernatural entity, or a nightmare, or a psychotic break? The script does not lead the viewer down any specific path. Instead, Mine Games tries to unsettle the watcher, by playing with time. The past, present and future all come onto the screen, sometimes all at the same time. Overall, Mine Games is a well written indie horror fun, which is...

Jackie Earle Haley has made good use of the second wind his career was given after his Oscar-nominated turn in Little Children in 2006, keeping himself busy with roles in films like Watchmen, Shutter Island, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Lincoln, and most recently, Robocop. Now, he’s taking a step behind the camera, and will direct the upcoming indie crime drama, Criminal Activities.
The film, which is being co-produced by Capacity Pictures, Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures and Producer Capital Fund, will mark Haley’s directorial debut. Not only will he be stepping behind the camera for this outing, but he’ll have a starring role as well, alongside John Travolta, Michael Pitt, Dan Stevens and Rebecca Da Costa.
Criminal Activities will tell the story of four men who reunite at an ex-classmate’s funeral. One mentions to the others that he has inside information on a stock that is “guaranteed” to make them instant millionaires.

It's taken a while to get there but finally Phase 4 Films will be releasing the Richard Gray helmed supernatural chiller 'The Evil Within' in early May across both DVD and VOD formats. The movie, which you may recall being previously titled 'Mine Games', stars the sexy horror hottie coupling of Briana Evigan ('Sorority Row') and Julianna Guill ('Friday the 13th'). It's good to hear the pun-esque title dropped in favour of a new effort however what doesn't help of course is the fact that Bethesda Softworks will be releasing a new survival horror game with the same name for the PS4 and Xbox One and other platforms in late August. Joseph Cross ('Lincoln'), Ethan Peck, Alex Meraz, Rafi Gavron and Rebecca Da Costa also star in the project. Check out the artwork and trailer below....

USA, 2014
There was a time when seeing the involvement of either John Cusack or Robert De Niro would lend a hefty amount of prestige to any project, so the idea of both men appearing in the same film, circa the mid-1990s, perhaps, would portend a particularly exciting picture indeed. Sadly, we’re a long way from the mid-1990s, yet the new film The Bag Man, which stars both Cusack and De Niro, does inspire a moderate level of intrigue regarding these A-Listers. Specifically, it’s almost impossible to not wonder why, exactly, either man signed onto this middling, claustrophobically minded project. Even now, even after both of these generational icons have starred in a number of would-be direct-to-dvd cheapies, you have to wonder if they need the money this badly.

The Bag Man, the all new crime thriller starring John Cusack, Rebecca Da Costa, Robert De Niro, and Crispin Glover opens in theaters today, and in support of the film I talked to star Crispin Glover about what attracted him to the role, his own films, and the appeal of touring to promote a film. The first sign there is something seriously wrong with “The Bag Man” is the poster. In the same size font, we see the names of the film’s three stars: John Cusack, Rebecca Da Costa, and Robert De Niro. Equal billing for Cusack, De Niro, and … Da Costa? Who is Rebecca De Costa? Why is her name given equal status? And for that matter, why does De Niro look like Bernie Madoff playing Robert Evans, or vice versa? And why does Cusack look more like Richard Nixon here than he did playing Nixon in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”? And what to make of the writing underneath the title “The Bag Man”? It reads: “The Cat’S In The Bag,” followed by “Inspired By The Story ‘The Cat’ By Marie-louise Von Franz”? What the hell is happening here?! The movie itself is equally confounding and wildly off-putting. It is, I think,...

Crispin Glover stars in the crime thriller The Bag Man with John Cusack, Robert De Niro and Rebecca Da Costa. In the film, directed by David Grovic, Glover plays a motel receptionist with an unnerving quality about him, who befriends the motel's criminal guest, played by Cusack.
Crispin Glover On 'The Bag Man'
For Glover, The Bag Man was something of a diamond in the rough. Following his turn as the Knave of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, Glover received numerous offers for parts – but not many of the variety that Glover was looking for at this point in his career. “The year that I got this I hadn’t acted in a couple of years. I was in Alice in Wonderland, which was the largest grossing film I’ve ever been in. I expected a lot of offers, and I did get a lot of offers,” Glover told Uinterview exclusively.

I have only myself to blame. After checking out the trailer for The Bag Man (previously Motel) and noting the presence of John Cusack and Robert De Niro, two actors who have done terrific work in the past (I mean, De Niro has two Oscars on his mantelpiece, for chrissake), I started to get a little excited for this indie crime thriller. Perhaps it would maintain a cool, neo-noir vibe, or at least give Cusack and De Niro a chance to craft nasty, interesting characters. Alas, that quantum of expectation simply made it all the more agonizing for me to sit through one of the laziest, dopiest thrillers I’ve seen in years.
The film starts off with a boring set-up, as criminal Jack (Cusack) gets an assignment from his big-shot boss Dragna (De Niro): pick up a bag and hold it at a seedy motel until Dragna arrives.

To set the stage a little, the movie is a crime thriller directed by David Grovic and inspired by the story "The Cat" by Marie-Louise von Franz. Outside of De Niro and Cusack, the movie features Rebecca Da Costa, Crispin Glover, Sticky Fingaz, Dominic Purcell and Martin Kelbba. And, while it is a crime thriller, not everything in it is played perfectly straight, as is readily apparent in the clip. Set in a seedy motel, the film centers on John Cusack's character, a criminal hired by Robert DeNiro's character to retrieve a mysterious bag. At just a minute and thirty seconds, the trailer features a montage of fight scenes rather than a narrative recount of the film. As if the femme fatale stripper character played by Rebecca Da Costa wasn't enough of a clue, a voiceover provided by DeNiro's character makes for an eerie aural backdrop that demonstrates the film's clear noir aspirations. "Y'know something I don't like surprises," says DeNiro's character. "I mean don't get me wrong, I appreciate the unexpected. But I don't like surprises." Check out the trailer here:...

John Cusack is a conflicted bad guy in David Grovic’s “Bag Man,” in which he plays the titular bag man for crime boss Robert De Niro. Robert De Niro seems to alternate between playing a caricatured version of his past roles and playing an actual part. Having seen the first trailer for the actor’s latest crime thriller The Bag Man, I could not quite decide which De Niro I was watching.
The Bag Man focuses on a crime boss (De Niro) who hires a man named Jack (John Cusack) to bring a bag to a seedy motel. According to the trailer, Jack had better not look in that bag, if he knows what’s good for him (I’m pretty positive that means that Jack is going to look in the bag). Unsurprisingly, things do not work out as they’re supposed to and the appearance of a shady prostitute, a criminal with an eyepatch, and a few other suspect characters make life rough for Jack.

File this under: movies you forgot existed. As much as he's a bonafide legend, and will go down as one of the great actors of his time, Robert De Niro still will sign on to the most random, middling fare from time to time. Which brings us to "The Bag Man." Never heard of it? Well, maybe you'll recall when it was first announced a couple years ago under the title "Motel." Still doesn't ring any bells? Don't sweat it because the first trailer is here. Co-starring John Cusack, Crispin Glover (!) and Rebecca Da Costa, the film is basically your standard crime flick, which revolves around a bag of money. Because there's always a bag of money. And there's always a slinky, femme fatale too, along with a seedy location for everything to go down. This movie does have it all, but all that it does have looks pretty uninspired,...

It's one hell of a hot horror double act which sees sexy duo Briana Evigan ('Sorority Row') and Julianna Guill ('Friday the 13th') team up for Richard Gray's new time-travel thriller 'Mine Games'. It may still be without an official release date but today we can take a gander at a new piece of teaser art plus a trailer for the thriller. The action of the movie takes place in an abandoned mine discovered below a cabin where a group of college students are hanging out during their Summer break and it seems to be a bit of a blending of Christopher Smith's 'Triangle' and Drew Goddard's 'The Cabin in the Woods'. The new early trailer, revealed by Kaleidoscope, is a tad weak and doesn't yet look totally polished but the flick co-stars Joseph Cross ('Lincoln'), Ethan Peck, Alex Meraz,...

Crispin Glover has joined the indie-action thriller "Motel," which already has John Cusack, Robert De Niro and Rebecca Da Costa attached to star. David Grovic will direct the story about a hit man (Cusack) hired by a crime boss (De Niro), who teams up with a mysterious woman to fight off a bunch of baddies in the Delta. Um, okay. Martin Klebba aka the dwarf who punched people in the groin in "Project X" is also on board, and the film is currently shooting. [THR] Sofie Gråbøl (star of the original Danish series "The Killing") and Signe Egholm Olsen will team with Dogme director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen's latest film "The Hour Of The Lynx." Based on an original story by Swedish author Per Olov Enquist, the psych-thriller will follow a vicar who runs an experiment which gives violent, traumatized inmates at an institution the responsibility of caring for animals as pets.

Based upon an original screenplay by James Russo, the film is being directed by David Grovic, who, along with writer Paul Conway, has also performed rewrites on the project.

Indie action thriller Motel is attracting quite the cast for its tale of hit men, criminals and other assorted lowlifes. So it feels somehow perfect for Crispin Glover to be stepping aboard. To finish the job he’ll have to battle a series of other shady characters, and ends up partnering with Da Costa’s femme fatale to try to escape his fate. There’s no word on who Glover or Klebba will be playing, but you can bet Glover hasn’t signed on to play an ordinary motel customer.David Grovic is cranking the cameras right now, working...

The gorgeous Briana Evigan (below) just cannot help herself. She seems to be popping up in horrors and thrillers at every turn. Already with sub-par 'Donnie Darko' sci-fi sequel 'S. Darko', slash-happy remake 'Sorority Row', hungry tiger tale 'Burning Bright' and home invasion set-piece 'Mother's Day' already under her heaving horror belt the girl already has another trio of thrillers set up including 'Rites of Passage', 'Stash House' and Richard Gray's 'Mine Games'. The latter is Aussie helmer Gray's new time travelling thriller which will also star Ethan Peck, Joseph Cross, Alex Meraz, Rafi Gavron, Rebecca Da Costa and yet another smoking hot addition, Julianna Guill. Guill (below) herself is yet another red hot horror actress of late with credits that include 'Altitude', 'My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2' and not forgetting her naked...

Seven Below? Sounds like Snow White is missing, but at least we do have space involved in the whole thing. Not funny? Yeah, I thought so.
After all, this has nothing to do with evil queen, dwarfs, and huntsman, because this is the title of EFish Entertainment’s upcoming indie thriller that will have some great cast on board.
Just in case you think I’m hallucinating, check out the rest of this report for more interesting details.
So, here’s the thing. According to the latest reports, Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames, Luke Goss and Rebecca Da Costa are all attached to star in Kevin Carraway‘s movie that will follow “…a group of strangers brought together when a terrible storm leaves them stranded in a house in the woods where a terrible event transpired exactly 100 years prior.
The group seems trapped in a ghostly time warp, and history is repeating itself.

The indie thriller Seven Below has managed to build up a nice slate of actors for itself, with Variety reporting that the main cast is now comprised of Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames, Luke Goss, and Rebecca Da Costa. Directed by Kevin Carraway and written by him and Lawrence Smith, the story follows “a group of strangers trapped in a time warp house where a terrible event transpired exactly 100 years prior.”
Kilmer has been attached to the film for several months, and shooting was even set to begin in New Mexico, before a change in state tax credits made the shooting location change to Cincinnati, Ohio. How the aesthetics of New Mexico get replaced by Cincinnati is something I don’t really understand, but filming will commence next month. EFish’s Eric Mark Fisher and Brianna Lee Johnson will be producing, along with Warren Ostergard.

[1] Professional tough guys Val Kilmer and Ving Rhames, along with Luke Goss and Rebecca Da Costa, are set to star in the indie thriller Seven Below. Written by Kevin Carraway and Lawrence Smith and directed by Carraway, the film centers around: ...a group of strangers brought together when a terrible storm leaves them stranded in a house in the woods where a terrible event transpired exactly 100 years prior. The group seems trapped in a ghostly time warp, and history is repeating itself.” I haven't seen much by either Carraway or Smith, so I have no idea how the film will actually play out. But the concept, at least, sounds solid. Production for Seven Below is set to begin in Cincinnati next month.
